The Rockstar Ramblings: Going Down

A creepy red mini-van, counterfeit money, and a warning about "going down" highlight new videos this week.

HONEYCOMB LOVE have released a video for the song "Run For Your Money.” The video is autobiographical – the band has money problems. Their instruments have been repossessed or more like “taken to pay a debt” by a man with no sense of humor and a suit. How does this band overcome adversity? They print their own money. My only surprise is that the money doesn’t come in denominations of 1983 and 1984 because this band looks like they have been transported from this time. Their blend of denim, hard rock and hip hop are somewhere between impressive and trying to hard. I won’t even comment on the N.W.A. style Raiders cap. The video ends with band paying off the suit dude with the fake cash and running off with their instruments, presumably to go play Donkey Kong at the local arcade…

Australian power-house rockers, THE DEEP END, have released a video for "No Time To rest", the second single from their new album 'Cop This.’ The video starts with the band packing up a red mini-van because they either A. Won a shopping spree B. Late for a gig or C. Robbing someone. Regardless of the answer, taking the banana is unnecessary. Next the band is packed into the van and drinking beer. Why shouldn’t you drink and drive? Because van’s always break down as this one does. Despite trying to be “sexy” for potential serial killers no one picks them up, luckily the van starts back up. The band then gets cheeseburgers, do some head banging, and then its ice cream for dessert. Is this the band’s pre-show ritual? Not exactly Wade Boggs chicken dinner routine, but not the worst I have heard of…

After their first foray into video land with "Scream" two years ago, SPIDER ROCKETS have released "Going Down", from their 2012 album 'Bitten.’ A lot of black and white clips mixed with the band playing live. The song lyrics drip with sexual interpretation while the clips are very “slapstick humor” leaving me needing to watch a second time (still confused)…
