Iced Earth Bassist Quits To Join Megadeth

Iced Earth bassist James MacDonough has officially left the band to join Megadeth as their touring bassist. MacDonough's statement on the matter (as posted at Iced-Realm.de) is as follows:

"A while back I had heard that Megadeth might need a bassist, so I contacted them via email and much later got a response, to my suprise. Before I knew it, I was on a conference call with Dave [Mustaine]. I sent in some video of me playing a couple Megadeth songs and I got a call a couple of days later. Everything with Iced Earth has been up in the air as far as touring, so I told [Iced Earth mainman] Jon [Schaffer] about this when I got the first email back, and being my older bro, he told me to go for it. Unfortunately, I won't be able to play with Iced Earth in the future because this will be a very lengthy tour, but we'll see what happens down the road. I am keeping in touch with Jon and maybe something in the future will happen.

"Megadeth has always been one of my favorite bands and I have a lot of respect for Dave and what he's done for music. I feel honored to have been picked for this endeavor."

Megadeth's lineup for the upcoming tour will be as follows:

Dave Mustaine – Guitar/Vocals
Glen Drover (EIDOLON) – Guitar
Nick Menza – Drums
James MacDonough (ex-ICED EARTH) - Bass

Is there actually anybody left in Iced Earth? I used to love this band, but with everyone leaving, they probably suck now, especially with "The Ripper" in there.

the movement within the band has not bothered me much over the years except for the departure of Matt Barlow. He really helped the band reach a broader audience outside of the power-metal screamers niche. Iced Earth were one of may favorites during that stretch.

Oh well, I got to see Ralph Santoya, Richard, and James on IE's latest tour. I think it blows that everyone is leaving but then again everyone has always left. So this isnt a real big deal to me. The only departures that I really cared about were Richards, because of his work on Horror Show, and of course Matt. I have a fan for a long time now and I will stick with them and see what the future holds.

I love Iced Earth as much as the next guy but 2 + 2 has to equal Jon Shaffer as being the most difficult S.O.B. to work with. I'm sure he's looking into another Priest contribution as a replacement and asking Tim how he could inspire "Rock Star" 2 which dwelves into how one band can become another without changing their name.

Why did Matt leave? He was awesome. In my opinion he and Timo Kotipelto were the greatest power metal singers of all time. Sorry Bruce; I'd have to rank him 3rd. But I still love Iron Maiden.

Sweet. Now Megadeth is +2 awesome with Nick Menza back in the band and MacDonough in the band. And I'm not too worried about Iced Earth's future. They always seem to get good replacments

Matt left because he wanted to pursue a career in law. But we all know that Jon wasnt happy with his work on the Glorious Burden and kicked him out.

Poland isnt touring with Megadeth, he only recorded the album with that Vinnie Coliouta on drums and Jimmy Lee Sloas on bass. Apparently no ones seen or hear from Sloas since recording like hes disappeared off the face of the planet, otherwise he was gonna tour... since he disappeared they needed a replacement and got James... Menza was interested so hes back in and Poland couldnt tour i guess or didnt want to or something so they found Glen Drover... anyone know what Glen's like...?

originally Mustaine wanted the Rust in Peace lineup... but that all stuffed up. This will be the last tour as Megadeth sadly as Mustiane HAD to record one more "MEGADETH" album to fulfill his Sanctuary contract... sounds pretty forced unfortunately. And you can tell the heart isnt in it for this album... just doing the tour with anyone capable to get enough album sales to keep sanctuary happy then its all over for megadeth... then we'll see if mustaine does a bit of solo work, im sure thatll have some more heart in it.
