Winterhymn To Release New "Huntsman" Single

American folk metallers Winterhymn will release new single "Huntsman" on September 9th, 2013. "Huntsman" is the first track to feature new lead guitarist Varrik (Elimination, Imperial Vengeance), drummer Valthrun (Schallkrieg), and bassist and vocalist Alvadar (Schallkrieg), since former members Ulfr, Sieven, and Warg departed at the beginning of 2013.

"If you compare the material from Songs for the Slain to ‘Huntsman’ it is easy to hear both the influence of the new members as well as a natural maturation of the band," comments guitarist/vocalist Draug. "One of the goals we set after SFTS was to create a greater sense of cohesion between the folk and metal elements of the music. We wanted the violin and keys to feel just as natural in the mix as the more traditional instruments, complimenting each other rather than one supporting the other, and they definitely do in ‘Hunstman,’ both thanks to the songwriting and Kevin Brown’s mixing. The finished product is more intricate and thoughtful, while at the same time more aggressive and driving. It’s a great example of the general direction for the next album.”

"Huntsman" also marks a new lyrical direction for the band, adds Draug. “While we’re still generally suckers for Norse mythology, we’re abandoning the viking themes in favor of a fantasy of our own creation. At the end of the day, we want to tell stories, and decided that a world of our own creation would hold the fewest barriers. Drathna, the main subject of ‘Huntsman,’ is just one of the characters who will appear in the next album, which is shaping up to be a loose concept album.”

Look for “Huntsman” as a name-your-price download on Bandcamp here this coming September 9th, 2013.
