Burzum's Vikernes Arrested In France For Suspicion Of Planning A Massacre

Update: Vikernes has now been released and no charges have been filed.

Euro News (see article at this location) has reported that Burzum's Varg Vikernes has been arrested in France on what authorities have called "suspicion of planning a massacre."

Vikernes' wife had legally purchased four guns, but suspicions had already been raised when the manifesto of Anders Behring Breivik, the man responsible for killing 77 in Oslo two years ago, had reportedly been received by the musician. French authorities searched his home for weapons and explosives and the prosecutor has deemed him "likely to prepare a large-scale act of terrorism.”

Vikernes served 21 years in prison for the murder of Mayhem's Euronymous, as well as receiving convictions for burning four churches. He moved to France with his wife and children following his release in 2009.

no freedom of speech amendment in france.
if the authorities wanted to tail him for suspicion until he does something outrageous fine, but arresting someone on assumption is the muther of all f'ups.
france is different from the states so who knows what his chances and or rights are, but until he is caught doing something or a body pops up with his dna on the crime scene, the case has minimal substance.
free the count.

He really needs to grow up from his attention seeking behavior... As you can see from all of his past press statements/actions, he really can't help himself. Varg needs to get a reality check from his paranoid ravings and silly behavior.

Learn some facts about what your talking about before posting comments like that. The church burning were all a stand against western/Christian invasion of Scandinavia.

varg is not someone i would hang around with but i think his past actions and words at times have been taken further out of their contexts than they should by media and people who are not fully aware of life and history of scandanavia.
until he commits a crime of magnatude he should remain free.

This afternoon the music in my flat is Burzum.. because I think this is hilarious.

I don't think there is enough legally obtained explosives in france to rid the world of that country.

france only exists as a buffer for Germany, meaning it takes me longer to get to Wacken.

I'd say this is just a media stunt. I mean, how many copies has his recent albums sold in total?

So, his wife bought some rifles. Big deal.
In USA, that would be complitely normal; "So, what's on the shopping list? Oh, buy a gallon milk, a rocket launcher and four rifles. Ok."

I'm very suprised he lived in France though.
I thought he was the kind of " Norwegian Knight" who'd never leave Norway.
A bit contradicting with his religious beliefs considering how multicultural France is, I'd say.

@WOLF7…it will be interesting if the gun purchase is what alerted the authorities.
My guess would be they had him tapped for a while.
Computer, phone…etc…
Maybe it was Obama listening in again lol?
Either that or they’re jumping at nothing and he’ll walk…should be interesting either way.
At least Varg makes the day more interesting.
Maybe Snowden will have some intel….

Brian, considering Vikernes has lived in France for years now married to a French woman, the French authorities most certainly know who and what he is and that he's around.

The key here is the Anders Breivik manifesto; anyone here in Europe who received it is on watch list, and I don't wonder why.

So when's Varg's missus decided to pick up 4 rifles, the red light lit up, the French police put their croissants aside and went to visit the Vikernesses.

I’m not familiar with French law so I can’t comment on what their authorities can and cannot do.
If it’s a simply case of rifle purchase then I’m sure he’ll be just fine.
But if it is more than that and he snapped again…I’d rather see him locked up.
I don’t see it…not with a wife and three kids.
Those things have a way of mellowing people out…that and old age lol.
I’d actually be surprised if he wasn’t on their watch list the moment he entered their country.

The thing about Breivik was that Varg took a stance *against* what he did and was quite critical of him, I can't find the quote now but it's somewhere in his lengthy heathen ramblings.

I'll wait until there's evidence against him. I'm sure the police are watching him like a hawk so it wouldn't take much ammunition hoarding for them to call him up.

Varg did criticize Breivik, and quite harshly, but it was because he was indiscriminately killing Norwegians and not specifically targeting *Muslim* Norwegians.

Side note in regards to previous comments: it doesn't matter in the slightest *why* someone is burning churches - arson is still wrong and totally unacceptable to any reasonable, moral person. Wanna protest the Christianization of a country? Cool. Wanna burn a building to the ground because you disagree with the words being said inside it? Not so much.

Thank you, xFiruath, for saying this, because I was itching to write something similar too after reading those comments about what his background reasons were for burning churches. Besides for the fact that those priests and christian people in there have absolutely nothing to do with the christianisation in the past.

Also, buying rifles in France is not the same as in the states, that's for sure.. even if you buy them legally and seem to get out fine, I'd be sure that the person who handed them over might have called the police to have an eye on what happens with them. Not every person in Europe owns guns and you usually don't have the chance to use them on a daily basis, except if you have a hunting license. And even then only with special permissions to hunt certain animals in a time of the year.

I have no idea if it was just some way to get attraction or if there was something real going on, to be honest, I don't really care.. I just think it's really sad if someone has so much hate and intolerance for generally innocent people just because of bad things that happened in the past. If everyone would think like that I guess many people would die.

Sorry I don't know what you think happened in those church burnings but no one got hurt. What a lot of people seem to forget is .....actually forget that there Christian they have done more wrong than anyone on this planet an to be honest the burning of a church was an easy get away. An Im not a fan of arson but I agree with what they did and what it stands for.

Do you know what black metal was founded on. these types of actions it was a political as well as a musical movement. And it was all nationalist music, love of norway and the old ways and the hate of America and the Christians.

Okay, possibly noone got hurt physically, but how would you feel if some random people just came over and burned down your house, because.. guess what, you're listening to Black Metal and it's some dark music for freaky people and they just don't like freaky people.

I don't proclaim to be a history professor, but can you acutally name those events that you say prove that christians have "done more wrong than anyone on this planet"?

I don't really wanna take this too far, but if you think about thousands dead in the crusades and christianisation in the east.. the crusades for example were really a political issue about land and power of the church lords and christianity was merely an instrument for the churches to get enough uneducated people to follow. If you say now that anyone who paints a cross onto their butts before killing someone is doing it for christianity, well.. then maybe you should think again, I don't know. And no, I'm not trying now to defend the christians against all accusations or something, I just think you're kind of on the wrong track a bit..

If the French want to make a "example" they should do it by deported the lunatic jihadist Muslims that have taken over their country. There are currently over 750 "No Go Zones" (and counting) in France in which Non-Muslims aren't allowed in. But yes ignoring that and focusing on Vark makes a hell of a lot of sense. Then again we're talking about suicidal liberal EU so what can we expect.
