The Rockstar Ramblings: She's My Confusion
THE LAST VEGAS are back with another video, “She’s My Confusion”, off the band’s latest album, ‘Bad Decisions.’ THE LAST VEGAS do not make straight forward videos; this one is no different, incorporating mystery, history, and good ole rock and roll.
The video begins with a man (boy) driving a car. He sees a girl and picks her up.
BACKSTORY: The video is based on a Chicago area ghost story named “Resurrection Mary” that has been around since the 1930’s. Mary had spent an evening dancing at the Willowbrook Ballroom (previously called the Oh Henry Ballroom) with her boyfriend. Following an argument that evening, Mary stormed out into the cold winter's night, leaving the ballroom behind and walked along Archer Avenue. Not long after, she was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver who fled the scene leaving her to die. The story survives through the many men who claim picking up a young female hitchhiker along Archer Avenue between the Willowbrook Ballroom (which is the locale for the video) and Resurrection Cemetery. When reaching the cemetery, the young woman is let out only to disappear into the cemetery. CONTINUE…
They go to the Willowbrook Ballroom for a dance (or I suppose “sock hop” as it was called back then, or did that come after? Fuck, I don’t feel like Googling this) and the house band is THE LAST VEGAS. The girl disappears and the boy is led through a poker parlor where a shoot out occurs. Next, he is in a dressing room full of showgirls. At least I think that is what this is; it could be a brothel because Chad Cherry is looking very Mr. Pimp in this scene. After a brief wrong turn into a distillery, a freaky clown like guy grabs him and brings him in front of a crystal ball. A brief look into his past (or was it his future) and just like that he is back at the dance/sock hop with the girl. They share a moment, and then cut to the traffic accident scene. Was it all a dream and these were the boy’s last thoughts? It’s all very mysterious which I guess is the point.
My theory is that Southern Comfort had something to do with the accident. It’s always Southern Comfort, it really ruins everything…
