The Rockstar Ramblings: An Off-Road Affair

This week rock and roll representatives from the suburbs of Philadelphia, state of Ohio, and Portugal bring us videos. Also, a special bonus video from one of Canada's finest for our viewing pleasure.

Cinderella front man Tom Keifer has released a video for his new single "Solid Ground.” Keifer's debut solo album 'The Way Life Goes' hits US stores on April 30th and the rest of the world May 7th. The collection of 14 new songs ranges from intimate, organic, acoustic tracks to driving hard rock. Was Tom Keifer born draped in a long scarf? Google opinion varies on this subject, but everyone (including Google) agrees his voice sounds great. The new song is very Cinderellaesque and fills a need for more heavy blues rock...

Columbus, Ohio's American Dog have released a video for the song "Devil Dog" from their latest studio album 'Poison Smile.’ After their last video ("Just Like Charlie Sheen") I wasn't sure if this was a band to be taken seriously. I stand corrected. The drum hits heavy over fast guitars and sleeveless jean jackets. I'm sure these guys drive big ass Harley's and probably kick ass (regardless of what they are doing) every night...

Portuguese rockers Affaire have released their first ever music video for their newest single "Highway Affair.” How many videos begin with shots and the lyrics "sold my soul to rock and roll?" Fifty percent? Anyway, I like the use of the picnic bench for the band meeting. It's a very underrated table, many important decisions are made on picnic benches. The band moves to their car and we see a woman. She is wearing lipstick, standing on the side of the road, and smoking either a Virginia Slim or Newport Stripe. The band pulls over and she jumps into the backseat. She is DEFINITELY going to sleep with both of the guys in the backseat. 3:24 make out alert on the hood of the car! Quickly (why so fast?) they are back in the car. They take the girl back and as she gets out she slaps the face of the lead singer (the dude she was making out with). What happened? Did he become too possessive and not let her fuck the rest of the band? That is SO lead singer type drama...

Sebastian Bach fans can now view the worldwide premiere of the video for "18 & Life", taken from the former Skid Row singer's new live CD/DVD package 'ABachalypse Now.’ If the intent is to capture what it feels like to see a ballad live, well done Sebastian. At 1:03 of this video there are still no lyrics. I remember once I saw Slaughter live, the ballad "Fly To the Angels" took at least fourteen minutes. It was worse than "Free Bird" and that George Thorogood "Bourbon, Scotch, Beer" song combined. Anyway, at 2:05 Bach is still milking it; finally, at 2:32 he starts singing. I don't know if he's lip syncing or this is a production edit type dubbing deal, but it is awful. I'm going to assume the latter because although Sebastian likes to drag out his ballads, he usually sounds pretty good...
