The Rockstar Ramblings: Low Budget Edition

Some videos are made with blue light special budgets while others are made to look cheap or gritty despite pumping in the cash. This week we look at videos from both sides of the monetary track and see if money really matters.

German rockers, SASSY SOCIETY, have released their first music video "Infectious Love.” Any introduction that includes a Goth dude and a crystal ball is GRADE A humor in my book. The initial sequence is Blair Witch meets Night of The Living Dead meets The Marlboro Man. Cut to the band and is that a sleeveless Jack Daniels shirt? YES! Back to the video, there is a couple having a park bench moment, till a zombie appears and makes them zombies. Next, a family seated at the dinner table is attacked by zombies. Finally, a pissed off suit guy is attacked, by a zombie. Okay, so where do all of these zombies end up? At the SASSY SOCIETY rock show of course. In fact, there is a full on zombie orgy in the audience. If that isn’t enough, check out the aviators coming off at 4:31. Climactic!

Australia's new hard rockers SUNSET RIOT have released a video for the single "Trash Vs Class", from the band's 2010 self-titled release. There are a few videos I have to watch twice, not out of enjoyment, but out of horror. This is one of those videos. We start with a few dressed up dudes that look a lot like the members of SUNSET RIOT in drag. The “dudes” go out to eat for what appears brunch (do they have brunch in Australia?) and proceed to eat like pigs (actual pigs). They run out on the check. I have no problem with this. BRUNCH IS ALWAYS AWFUL. Where are they headed? The “dressed in drag dudes” are disgusting looking groupies for the band SUNSET RIOT. Oh, the horror…

HOTEL DIABLO have released a video for the single "Psycho, California" from their debut album 'The Return Of Psycho, California.’ Featuring members of BANG TANGO and W.A.S.P., the video was directed by nine-time Emmy Award winning and MTV Video Music Award nominated director Fabio Jafet who went with the classic high budget, but “let’s make it look low budget approach.” The video starts the same as every episode of Showtime’s ‘Californication.’ There is a girl (who is presumably a psycho) and she ends up in front of a mirror. She head bangs, rubs lipstick over everything, and likes to write the words FUCK and PSYCHO. I bet she cuts herself too, most girls like this do…

CHASE THE ACE have released a music video for the song "The Cat Is On The Loose", the first single from their upcoming self-titled debut album. It’s hard to estimate the production dollars spent for this particular video. I’m going to assume the girl cost A LOT and that the costume budget was slashed (which explains the mesh shirt)…

LMAO - the first 2 videos r Steel Pantheresque and being sh**ty quality just adds to the whole tongue-in-cheek feel of it. The other 2 videos......what can I say?! Chase the Ace's video with the ABBA camera shots (singer facing camera with female blurred in the foreground in profile) - really?
