Machine Head Parts Ways With Bassist Adam Duce

Bassist Adam Duce, a founding member of Machine Head along with singer/guitarist Robb Flynn, has left the band. Machine Head has issued a statement, which reads:

"Machine Head and bassist Adam Duce have parted ways. The split is amicable, and Machine Head would like to wish Adam the best with his current and future endeavors.

"The band will continue on for the time being as a three-piece and have begun the writing process for their follow-up to 2011's Unto The Locust. A late 2013 release is projected."

Wow that sucks. Maybe there is still problems between him and rob. I was hoping they had settled their differences a few years back for good. Either way I think Adam was an integral part of the band and I hope this doesn't negatively affect them too much. Looking forward to new material.

I suppose the alternative is to try recording a song without a bass guitar and trying to figure out why it sounds like crap, but that would be a lot more work :P

I've recorded lots of my own tracks and a few covers and I can say from my own experience that bass is far more important than people give it credit for.

I've never been a big fan but I have a couple of their albums. It's hard to project how much this will impact MH, if at all... I know Duce penned some of the music but Flynn seems to do the overwhelming majority of both lyrics and music based on writing credits. I suppose we'll have some idea by the end of the year.

Troll if you like. I sling my fair share of sarcasm around around here. The fact of the matter is that if you seriously think bass is pointless in metal, or almost any genre of music for that matter, then your ears are missing something. Either that or you need to get yourself a better sound system.

I'm not criticizing anyone for liking their music a certain way, EQ the bass right out for all I care. But there IS a reason that bands have bass players, regardless of whether or not they are a distinct part of the writing process.

Old man's voice: I seem to remember the 2004-2007 period in this site's history as the golden era of hatred-fueled screaming matches.

Granted, most of it was just ugly, boring, cookie-cutter, playground insults that should be actively discouraged but every now and then you'd get some people with real anger and equally valid opinions that neither side would -ever- respect. They would put genuine thought and effort into tearing each other's logic to pieces and were hell bent on making a point while driving the other away in bloody, teary-eyed defeat.

I miss that. :)
