"some music was meant to stay underground..."

Laconic Parts With Two Members, Band Going On Indefinite Hiatus

Vocalist Danny Brian of Laconic has issued the following announcement about the band going on indefinite hiatus:

"Hey everyone. As you may have noticed, our page has been inactive for quite awhile after our last show in June. Some of you may be wondering whats going on with us, some of you may not be. Either way, its time to fill everyone in on whats been happening. The truth is, we consider our fans our family and friends, and you deserve to know whats going on with Laconic, so first off, we apologize for keeping you in the dark.

"Now heres the deal: Laconic has been playing music as a band for over 10 years. We've accomplished alot as a band, and we have done things other bands can only dream about. We've been able to live out fantasies that all of us have been dreaming of since we were children.

"I dont want to drag this out in anyway or waste anyones time, but the short and skinny is that, after all this time, after 10 years, after thousands and thousands of dollars, after countless hours, being involved in a failed industry, failed friendships, failed relationships, missing out on family time, all of those things combined, has made us step back and realize that, for some of us, this isnt the life we choose to live anymore.

"What people need to realize, is that being in a band that you run as a business is not necessarily fun. The only part of being in an established band thats fun is actually playing the music. But even playing one show requires months of planning, ticket selling, advertising, marketing, promoting, traveling, missing work, etc, etc. It became old after 10 years, and for some of us, have realized that there are more important things in life.

"To give everyone a little bit more insight: 2 members left in the same day, that definitely contributed, and a future of looking for new members and starting from scratch and continuing down an endless money and time pit, wasnt attractive to any of us. And to be completely honest, the world of metal is a tough one. Me personally, I am tired of all of it. You dont have to play an 8 string, or scream the entire time to be heavy and it sucks that people dont realize that. We have had our representatives and managers tell us that if we go into our rehearsal space and write 3 of the heaviest songs with no singing, all screaming, and countless breakdowns, we are sure to be successful. But we refused to do so, and its a curse and a blessing all at the same time. We've literally had people in an audience turn their back on us because we didnt play breakdowns continually. Its sad, but true.

"The industry is fucked, and if any of you care, I'd recommend doing some research and reading up on the music industry today, versus the music industry 20 years ago, interesting stuff. No one wants anything original anymore, they want whats popular and what they know can make them money. Money has never been relevant for a band like us, we always just wanted to play, but unfortunately, trying to be successful, touring, all of the like, kept us from focusing on the music, and that is not something we wanted to compromise anymore.

"I wont keep rambling, but I will tell you that as of right now, Laconic is on indefinite hiatus. We are all pursuing other avenues in life at this time. What I can tell you is that music will always be relevant for each of us, without question. We are all still playing and working on other things, I cant speak for anyone else, but me personally, am making tons of music and collaborating with other musicians, purely for fun, and for the love of music.

"The one last question you might all have, is will we ever see Laconic again? The answer is, we don't know. But to give you a little piece of mind, we have been throwing around the idea of playing one last show. For you, and for us. A show where we dont have to worry about bullshit, or a 'next step,' and a show where we can have fun together, with you, our friends and family, one last time. May be some different musicians playing, and some weird old/new songs but what the hell. We will keep you updated on that as it develops.

"The very last thing I have to say is, thank you so much for everyone's continuous support. It is a fact that without you, we wouldn't be where we are today. To everyone that bought a cd, bought a shirt, came to a show in az, came to see us on tour, put us up, fed us, and most of all, anyone who just listened to and enjoyed our music. We cant thank you enough, and will never forget any of the fantastic people and friends we've made along the way. I hope you all understand why this decision has been made and you can continue to support each of us in our endeavors. We'll keep you updated on the last show if it develops, and also update you with other projects we're all involved in. Thank you all, we love you."
