"some music was meant to stay underground..."

Beastwars Streaming New Song "Cthulhu" Online

New Zealand doom-metal outfit Beastwars will make the band's debut self-titled album available for the first time in North America on September 11th, and one day earlier in the rest of the world.

In addition to heavy touring in support of the album release, the band is stoked to have New Metal Army premiere one of the "Beastwars" tracks titled "Cthulhu." Check out the song at this location. The band comments:

"The idea for the song was to create some music that felt like a huge sea monster. Coincidentally, we recorded the album in Dunedin, New Zealand, which is the same city where H.P. Lovecraft's crew set off from in the story 'The Call of Cthulhu.'

"This version that was recorded was the first time ever that we had played the song all the way through, and all the vocals were improvised on the spot. The next morning we were watching the news on TV and we saw that a fishing boat had sunk off the coast of Dunedin around the same time that we had recorded the song. Obvious use a coincidence, but made us seriously contemplate the power of the riff."
