The Rockstar Ramblings: For The Animals
The Cult has released the official music video for their new single, "For The Animals," from their forthcoming album 'Choice Of Weapon.’
Cult front man, Ian Astbury says about the video: "'For The Animals' is a metaphor about people existing in a realm that is outside of structured society and outside of what cultural editors deem to be important or relevant…It's for people who choose not to tow the party line or try to fit in. It's for the free-thinkers and mavericks who are creative and dynamic…for all the fucked up children starring down the barrel of a gun.”
OKAY THEN, let’s take a look.
We begin with a girl trying to look like Dragon Tattoo Girl. She is scared of boys on bikes, but to be fair these aren’t just any boys; these are dirt bike punk boys. The girl picks up a spray paint can and then rides a subway train where she is contemplating “deep shit”, you can tell because she is holding her head in her hands. Across from her a dude nods in agreement like he just knows. Heavy, man! He then stands up and places some “magic?” stones in Dragon Tattoos hands. Next (and predictably) she heads to a shady apartment. Her body language says it is her apartment, but she has a roommate who is sleeping off her sins from the night before. She is probably a slutty roommate.
Dragon Tattoo girl sits on the couch and watches television and laughs so we know she is not watching network television. There is a guitar solo in the hallway…of course there is! We now see that on the television there are disturbing images, which makes this girl disturbing, but we already knew that from the haircut. What to do, what to do… She remembers the “magic?” stones. Dragon Tattoo takes the stones and writes on walls of buildings, then puts black streaks on her face ala Nikki Sixx during the early Crue years. Next she heads to this strange place where the youth is arriving in shopping carts while (presumably) chanting and waving generic (READ: beer bottle) Molotov cocktails. Dragon Tattoo throws a bottle against what appears a piece of art and watches it burn. SO….the stones weren’t magic?
