Anathema Issues New European Road Report

Anathema's Dan Cavanagh has now checked in with a new road report from the band's time touring in support of new album "Weather System" (reviewed here). The tour update reads as follows:

"Paris, Amsterdam, Milano, Poland, London, all the German shows, Antwerp, Pratteln... All the audiences will live long in the memory! Thank you so very much for coming out in such great numbers and supporting us. We hope we repaid you with some passionate performances and professional approach to what we do.

"London was remarkable for the sheer beauty of the venue as well as the number of dear friends who came.. Worth a mention each of them, the list is too long, but there at the "Camden Palace" was Christer Andre Cederberg, Petter Carlsen, Alx Leeks, the Kscope people, Duncan Patterson, Jenni from the Agency group, as well as the boys from Shadowlight and Uncaused Creation whose music I have been helping and overseeing where I can. Also special mention goes to Jo who I met before the show and told me of her personal connection to 'internal landscapes'...

"Friends came from all across Europe and some further afield, I recognized at least one face from the United States, which considering my new found love for that country was a welcome reminder that we have to go back!

"We worked really hard to get everyone involved at Koko, which may not have been as easy as all that, as I am guessing almost half of the audience in that packed venue were watching us for the first time.. An honour and a privilege to play for so many new faces. It was much the same in Amsterdam. That's the first time Anathema have played in such venues. We're happy.

"One of the undoubted highlights of the tour has to Bataclan in Paris. What a beautiful and spellbinding experience to share that energy with that crowd. Thank you Paris. Merci la France. Anathema owes you so much.

"Special mention must be made of the most musical audience in all of Europe, the Italians. No one sings like these people do. They sound so good when singing along that half of them could probably do a good job if brought onstage and given a microphone. A really nice venue, a great sound onstage (thanks Pete) and another amazing Italian meal. Oh pass the Parmesan, this is getting cheesy!

"Poland! Always special, always loud, always a great place to play and has been since 1996... Our ties go way back.

"With all respect to the people in all the countries.. I just got to get one thing off my chest. Germany, Germany, what can I say?

"My deepest respect to your land and your people, to your good nature and gentle strength. It's a personal highlight of my life to have the chance to often visit your beautiful green land and work and play in what is, without doubt, one of the greatest nations on earth. And I say that with love and no false national pride.

"For an entire people of such inner strength, to have gathered together in the 20th century, united in grief and horror over the tragedy in Europe over 70 years ago and in their determination to learn and grow, and to have built and rebuilt the nation to become what is essentially the capital nation of Europe, out of LOVE and a will to do the right thing.. not from false pride... is beyond beautiful.

"As was shown by Norway after the tragedy last year, Germany truly is a nation that can teach the world how to learn from grief and how to reach out to their neighbours in love and kinship.

"On a planet in a corner of space that has a species capable of beautiful dreams and awful nightmares, a world that is too often divided... the United Heart of Germany is a beacon of light. Strong, Gentle, Unafraid.

"For your humility and the kindness in your hearts, as well as your sausages, I say dankeschön...

"Final mention must be made to our Road Crew, who have, to a man, been absolutely first class on all levels.

"Paul our illustrious leader: cool, calm, collected, no ego, great heart.. Thanks mate. If you’re ever available again we will snap you up.

"To 'big man' Glaswegian Brad in the merch, you went the extra mile for us and it's noted and appreciated. You’re always welcome! Sorry I don't quite remember our first meeting in 1993!

"Young Pete. I'll say one thing, to quote Brian Potter in Phoenix nights upon first meeting Ray Von, who sorted his electrics for the club in episode one: 'He's solid gold that lad. We've struck gold.'

"Mike all the way from Canada! A calm presence always helping the band put on an extra special show, cheers mate.

"Arjan our handsome Dutch guitar man, excellent job mate dank u wel! Thank you very much indeed.

"Adrian our driver, sorry I missed you in London. You were a gentleman and always welcome! Special mention to Amplifier, a great support band, the song 'Panzer' will remain with me for the moment I heard it in Frankfurt.. A special song in a much needed moment. Much thanks to their crew too, a great pro bunch of lads, and to their Geordie driver Matty, to whom I wish all the very best.

"So thanks to everyone who helped make the first weather systems tour a great success.

"See you in autumn. Best wishes and much, much love."
