Jon Schaffer of Iced Earth has checked in with the following tour recap and announcement about the band beginning the writing process for a new album later this year:

"Hello gang! Just wanted to write a thank you to all the fans on the last leg of the tour. You guys were amazing every single night, no matter where in the world we were. It was a truly special run, and one that will remain high in my memories for years to come.

"We will start song writing in the Fall this year and will continue that, and the subsequent production for the new album, in between and around upcoming tour plans for the remainder of 2012-2013. Busy, focused, and energizing times lie ahead, but we are stoked and ready! Count on it!

"I'm currently in South America, hanging with friends, and taking care of some personal business here. Home sweet home is just around the corner, and I'm looking forward to sleeping in my own bed! AHHHHH!!!!

"I'd also like to say good luck to Freddie Vidales, we had a lot of fun through the years and I wish him all the best for his future. We totally understand his decision and support it 100%.
Best to you brother!

"Until next time, thank you once again... take care, and I wish you all the very best life has to offer!"

Hopefully with Stu backing up the writing process they can push even more toward the return to the glory days for Iced Earth. Dystopia was almost there. Like it was on the cusp of a breakthrough but just didn't quite crest the horizon. Dark City, in my opinion, is one of the best songs they have written in years. Let's see more of that goodness.

Agreed Cold...dystopia is ALMOST there...still a major step back toward fine form after losing all self identity during the ripper era (and remaining off on that trip despite barlow's return for Crucible)

Iced Earth was a band I had written off for good...glimmer of hope when Matt returned, which quickly evaporated. Gave em one more chance with the arrival of Stu, primarily out of curiosity, and am very glad I did

Dystopia only has one tune on it that I truly fvcking hate (2nd to last), 2-3 fvcking killer tunes, and the rest are solid and very listenable. Block's vocals are simply superb.

Very much looking forward to new one \m/
