Earache Records has reported that David Gold, frontman of Canadian doom metal band WOODS OF YPRES, was killed in a car accident last night. He was 31 years old.

Woods of Ypres was formed in 2002 by David Gold, Aaron Palmer and Brian McManus. The band signed a deal with Earache records in 2010 and their forthcoming new album, "Woods 5: Grey Skies & Electric Light," which was recorded with producer Siegfried Meier at Beach Road Studios in Ontario, Canada, and was mixed by U.K. producer John Fryer (NINE INCH NAILS, PARADISE LOST), is due out on February 13th, 2012. The band has been previewing new material from this album.

I was fortunate enough to meet David and the guys when they were in Barrie over the summer. Got my Woods IV signed by them all. I am also in the middle of reviewing the Woods V: Grey Skies and Electric Lights and I have to say all the lyrics and music just got a TON more haunting like hellrat was saying. I'm not sure if it was released but if it ever is, the song "Finality" is one song you need to hear. I'm wearing my Woods of Ypres Green shirt to work tomorrow with pride. RIP.
