They already sold out Wacken? Exactly like Pinto said - take some notes over here. Are there any US concert organizers? That thing is probably a money machine so I'm really surprised no one has jumped on the idea over here. Besides being a money machine though, it's gotta be a great time for Metalheads!
For me that would be a great line-up. Hell, Opeth, Machine Head and Amon Amarth alone would make it more than worth the ticket price. Add Six Feet Under, Ministry, Forbidden, Paradise Lost, all pretty good acts in their own right. I also love Henry Rollins spoken word acts. Looks to be a great show.
North American does have heavy metal festivals that are amazing, although they don't rival Wacken in size or attendees. Maryland Death Fest is a great example, though they are more geared to the "hipster" audience. In 2012 alone Godflesh, Electric Wizard, Unsane, Nasum, Today is the Day, and Saint VItus are playing. Another amazing and completely underrated festival is Noctis in Calgary, Alberta. In the past few years, Brutal Truth, Midnight, the Devil's Blood, Cynic, Suffocation, and many more have played. Next year Manilla Road has committed, and the organizers are going for Bolt Thrower! Tickets are super cheap and the city has a huge metal contingent.
