"some music was meant to stay underground..."

Unearthing the Metal Underground: The Logan, Utah Metal Scene

Logan, Utah sits in a picturesque little furrow by the name of Cache Valley, which is home to many small towns. Righteous mountain views are prevalent throughout and Logan is home to an array of diverse businesses, people and music. One thing that has become very apparent throughout the last few years is that, despite the small town vibe, the town has an awesome variation of pure metal that is comparable to cities ten times its size. Autostigmatic, Simple as Suicide, and Osco are but three of the bands that keep Logan’s metal scene alive and kicking some serious ass.

Autostigmatic is a four piece that is reminiscent of greats like Pantera and Slayer but with a crucially unique metal sound that brings fans back in hordes, craving more with every show. Live, they are non-stop head-banging metal that is cemented in the underground scene not only in Logan, but across Northern, Utah. Hovey is the front man, leading the mayhem with fierce vocals and guitar riffs that merge superbly with ferocious guitar abilities. The band produces deep and contagious bass lines and their drum beats are a hardcore combination of metal meets stampede, all in all creating a sound that pulls you in and saturates your soul.

Simple As Suicide

Simple As Suicide has been jamming the hell out of Logan, Utah and surrounding areas for five years, and with every live show they garner more fans dedicated to the band and the scene. When the band plays live the members exhibit ferocious energy and non-stop ability. Simple As Suicide has taken the best of hard-rock and metal with a touch of blues and meshed it into a fluid presence that captivates as much as it incites. From slamming drum beats to searing guitar solos, they dominate the scene. Add in ferocious bass lines and lyrics with true depth and you get a full metal sound that is as moshable as it is jamable.

Osco is fairly new on the scene. Since forming in 2009, the band has quickly climbed the local ranks and taken the thrash/death metal sound to an extreme level. Despite, or perhaps because of their young age, their musical aggression is varied and stout. They have a take-no-prisoners sound that reaches into the core of listeners, creating dedication from fans. Osco is devoted to the music, and with perseverance they have broken the stigma of genres and creating a distinct and enviable sound that metal/thrash heads throughout Utah and beyond are clamoring for.

These are but a few of the sounds available in the Logan, Utah scene. If you are aware of more maniacal and forthcoming bands, comment below so we all can share in the ferocity that makes up Utah’s underground music scene.
