The Rockstar Ramblings: Sex Slaves vs. Falling Red

This week a look at two recently released videos from Sex Slaves and Falling Red; in a classic showdown I will have to ultimately decide between strippers and blood. Surprisingly, it’s a lot closer than you think.

The first video is from UK rockers, Falling Red. The video is for the song “Come On Down” from the EP “Hasta La Victoria Siempre.” We begin with the 1-2 punch of guitars and the band name, Falling Red, shown on a marquee, and then we’re off with two girls dancing on the stage in lingerie. The song begins with, “Friday night and I’m headed for the show…” then cuts to a seating area that may be a VIP or champagne room, although I doubt the latter because there is too much light. Here we find a girl in red lingerie stripping on a pole. We are 36 seconds in and already have three strippers. For those keeping score at home I don’t need too mention how impressive this is.

Inside the VIP room the group continues with their conversation, ignoring the girl who has moved away from the pole (gyrating close by) which proves my theory that there is such a thing as “pole” guys. There it is, at 1:20 she is using the pole and is bent over. She now has the full attention of the table. It is no coincidence that she continues to use the pole for the duration of the song.

Bonus points goes to the guitar solo incorporating the dancers on stage as well as the lyrics for the hook of the song: “Come on down/Come on down/Wanna get fucked up in this town.” This seems like a really great opening tune for a band to play live.

The second video features the New York City band, Sex Slaves, and their song, “Bloodlust,” from the album “Wasted Angel.” Recently the band was in northern Germany where they came across an old castle and decided to shoot a video. The castle is rumored to be haunted and the shoot had to be cut short due to a clanking sound from the basement. Given we are approaching Halloween; I am handing out a pre-video bonus point for the spookiness factor surrounding this video.

The video starts inside the castle and there is a little bit of a Blair Witch feel not too mention the lyrics “Want to drink your blood tonight” giving this video a vampire vibe. Important to note that two of the three members of the band are wearing bandanas, that’s 66.6% (a passing grade in my high school). The video toggles back between the castle and stage. The song slows and then picks up, accompanied by a lot of fist pumping. The chorus, “Bloodlust/In God We Trust/Goin’ Straight to hell in the back of the bus” leads me to believe they are discussing the Atlantic City bus that departs from New York Port Authority. If this is true, then this is much scarier than any haunted castle.

In the end, this is a very difficult decision. On one hand you have a party song with strippers and the other a haunted massacre in the back of a bus. In the first video there is the incredible 36 second/3 stripper sequence, BUT there are bandanas and fist pumping in the second video. Final tally: 15.5 to 15 in favor of Sex Slaves. I’m not going to detail my scoring, but will say I’ve had some very disturbing bus experiences in my life and could relate.

What really needs to happen is for Falling Red and Sex Slaves to get together and create a one SUPER video complete with horror, blood, and of course, girls dancing in lingerie (in the back of a bus)…
