It's like Metallica and Lou said "let's try to write a doom metal, St. Vitus or Corrosion of Conformity-style song!" and then ran out of ideas.

Hate it when Lou repeats lines twice in a row, sounds completely retarded in that pompous dictating thing he's got going on. When he actually puts a bit of belly behind it and shouts his sh**, I don't hate it anywhere near as much. The best parts of the song are definitely the bits without vocals tho.

NEWS FLASH!!

Metallica have won the war against the illegal internet music downloading community. Metallica collaborated with producer Lou Reed, who is allowing Metallica to be his "back-up" band so-to-speak. In this strategic and very dangerous move, they have produced an album; to which no one will download. The album is expected to get minimal downloads, yet Metallica didn't expect that the move would result in the drop of record sales...

Yes viewers, Metallica have made an album sooo terrible that no one will download it! Making them the victors against internet pirates!!

y'know...If this song didn't have the presence of Lou Reed's "vocals" in it, it actually might be a halfway decent song. Unfortunately, all that meaningless rambling just felt out of place. I actually cringed everytime Lou spoke, and I grinded my teeth so hard that another visit to the dentist may benefit me. It's hard to imagine that Metallica listened to this after recording and thought "WOW, us and Lou Reed definitely mesh. What a great album!" Now, I'm a fair man, and will not pass any kind of harsh judging until said album is out. But if the rest of the album sounds like this, I may have to wear a mouthguard during the listening process.

This seems like a very disconnected effort.
Never been a fan of Lou's vocal style, but he has done better than this. I see how the lyrics connect to the lulu plays, but still... he's done much better.

As far as the Metallica aspect, this sounds like a half-assed effort. Only two riffs are used throughout the 5+ minutes. There is no build-up and it is too repetitive. The solos are sloppy, and the drums sound like Lars loaded up on Thorazine before the take. (I could have done much better than that, #40) Trujillo did the best he could with what he had to work with.
To cite a Blabbermouth article....
METALLICA drummer Lars Ulrich said, "I don't think we've ever felt this free. There's nothing that's totally outside of the boundary for us, nothing that feels like 'Oh, what happens if we go there?'"

Frontman James Hetfield added, "Lars and I listened to [Reed's demos] and it was like, 'Wow, this is very different.' It was scary at first, because the music was so open. But then I thought, 'This could go anywhere.'"
....
They could have gone anywhere, yet this song goes nowhere.

It's like Reed was talking to Hetfield and co. with the lines:
"I Want To See Your Suicide
I Want To See You Give It Up"

Metallica hasn't put out anything close to the caliber of their first four albums since, and that has been over 20+ years. When they switched styles in the 90's, they changed from innovators into followers. That's my problem with them. This collaboration - although - different - doesn't set a trend. It doesn't speak to the greatness that once was.

IMO, the whole sound would have worked better if it had gone into a more gothic vein, and would have lent itself better for a collaboration with a gothic (or doom) metal band.

There are no words to describe what I just listened to.
I really hope this is just a sick joke.
A Lulu so to speak.
Alot of people are way down on Metallica.
I have been down on them since St. Anger.
I dig Death Magnetic.
But...
This will effectively bury whatever fanbase they have left.
And I am not so sure that is not what they want.
Could there could be a worse album than St. Anger?
To be continued.......

I have said this with every album since "Load" and that is:

Listen to the title track of "Master of Puppets". Grasp every instant of the instrumentation, cling onto every word spoken, sung or screamed by James Hetfield. That song (and obviously the entire album) is a thing of metal music perfection. It was then and remains so today.

"Ride the Lightning" through "... And Justice" were the trinity and remain so today. They were created by divine or demonic intervention because Metallica became something indisputably worse in every quantifiable aspect from that point on... Think of Black album as a poetic death rattle -- brilliant but in decline. This is not an opinion. If you disagree it is because you suffer a neurological defect.

Comment 75 is totally correct, although I'd add "Not even worth wasting the 200MB worth of bandwidth on this crap." I can sorta connect with the lyrics though. "I wanna see your suicide, I wanna see you give it up," that's what I'm thinking about this band now. Oh, wait, are you a table? Really, James! Well, I'm a waffle iron!

this is awful, one recycled guitar riff played over and over and over and over and over and over and over over the most mediocre drum beat ive ever heard in all my life. and why the f*** isnt lou reed singing? isnt his contribution to this album his vocals yet he doesnt sing? he's rambling through words just strung together while he tries to say the last words of each line through his nose like he's bob dylan. lou reed can go eat a d***. nice guitar solo at the ende, NOT! i played that exact same guitar solo the very first time i picked up a guitar 13 years ago. lars should put peanut butter and whiskey on his nutsack and record the sounds of lou reed licking it off, i would rather hear that i think...

Hey thanks for that "that guy". The peanut butter, whiskey part involving Lars and Lou,aaah no!!!!!!. Thats disturbing! Lou sounds like some artsy fartsy beat generation beatnik. Trying to be all artsy for the sake of it. I dont think i can personally listen to any more of this should they release any more prior to .Nov.1st. Im waiting to see what jackoffs come forth and declare this crap art, that im failing to look within the soul of the project,or some pretenscious bs like that.

I didn't even bother listening to the song. Metallica's been a big bag of crap for a long time. I'd rather eat my dead grandmother's diarrhea than spend my time listening to what I know is pure sh**.

@79 (Necrovomit): Of course they go "meh". When you write the perfect metal album 3 times, what the f*** else do you do? Why try? Morons are gonna keep buying your sh** anyway.
