What really hurts is the mumbling nonsense of Lou Reed. Trying to be poetic, artsy, just doesnt sound good with Metallicas music in the background. Im calling it,St.Anger is a masterpiece compared to this. Some out of touch,60 year old rock critic at Rolling Stone is probably stroking himself after hearing this though. So out of touch, sadly.
i cant believe that their putting their name and effort behind this garbage. but hey, metallica are so much better than u that they more than likely arent paying any attention to ANY comments from the fans... Not saying dont voice ur opinion, but that they just really dont care, and the music is proof.
NP: Tear You Apart - She Wants Revenge<--(its interesting! my g/f is playing that song right now that sounds almost EXACTLY like this, except its actually better. and that says a lot cuz i hate what she's playing right now, but the way he sings is almost exactly the same as lou reed, but ya... better when comparing diarrhea to constapation)
I know this has been said before but people seem to have a REALLY hard time understanding that this is Lou Reed w/ Special Guests: Metallica. Not the other way around. Don't expect it to sound like a Metallica album because, quite simply, it is not. Unless you are a Lou Reed fan, why the hell are you b****ing?
I suppose it's not like it would matter. If it actually were a new Metallica album and it were as good as Master of Puppets there'd still be nothing but b****ing and moaning.
I wasnt aware it was being marketed as a Lou Reed album. I thought it was a 50/50 colab, being titaled LuLu. As far assc dissent, ill ultimately show my resentment by not forking over any of my cash for this, much like that Chinese Democracy atrocity 4 or so years ago. Vote with your wallet! Colabs dont have to be horrible,D.Grohls Probot, with all the classic metallers was damn good. Your right Coldiem,a band who has sold 100 million plus records need not hear any complaining from someone like me. How dare i.
HOLY CRAP! I mean the Holy Grail of total crap! Should we start a fund for boycotting the album or just Metallica as a whole from doing any more crappy new music!?!?!?! Really holy hell... I hope this bankrupts them like TLC, or Vanilla Ice... cause there all on the same level of crapdom!
Johny Cash boofing a wolverine to a Metallica soundtrack!? Anyone else hear a little of that going on! I hear holywood knocking for some SICKNASTY Snuff film videos! If there trying to prove that they don't sell out, release crap music and then call Mattel for another board game deal... way to go out with a... well... ...
I can understand the apprehension people feel over the labeling of the product, but I think that it's important to see this as a separate entity. More like, "the members of Metallica with Lou Reed" as opposed to "Metallica with Lou Reed."
Metallica's name is just being used here for brand recognition to get more people to pay attention to it. I guess it's working. Maybe Metallica should take more care in who they bed with, but after some of the stunts they have pulled in the past, I find it hard to believe that anyone is really all that surprised.
Given that the most anyone has heard is 90 seconds worth, maybe it's a bit early to judge. Although what we have heard is probably enough for most people to dismiss it entirely, heh. I still think it is unfair to label this a Metallica album.
I don't understand how Metallica have changed soooo much. Why?
I am 40 years old I remember when Master of Puppets came out ... the energy, the awesomeness. I mean, I have grown up, I am a father .. I work for a living. I plant a garden, and am fairly domesticated these days. I own ties, even wear them regularly .. but I still have this place in my heart for a certain style of music. I still love 'metal', and don't understand how James and Lars and Kirk have changed so much with their craft when they have not had to.
Am I missing something?
Am I as much to blame because I sold out - put away my black t-shirts during the day to give my family a better life with my successful career? Should I applaud Metallica for selling out to make as much money as they think they can by playing music they think might be accessible?
Or do they really like this?
I feel sad listening to this.
I tip my cap to post 23! I ask myself the same so often! I dont expect MOP part 2,but respect your legacy and those who followed from day one who expect so much more! I know,100 million albums world wide, carte blanche ,we can do what we want. This band, once upon a time, declared they would never make a video, hated MTV and the mainstream. Sorry for the rant, for im quite butthurt!
Also 100% agreed with coldiem - Complaining that Lou Reed sounds like Lou Reed on a Lou Reed project... anyone who's a Velvet Underground fan knows that's his style of singing, he's not Rob Halford or Chris Barnes. If you ask me I think the annoying thing is that it sounds too much like Lou singing over the top of a Metallica song. Metallica should have branched out and done different stuff on this collab and saved the Metallica riffs for a Metallica album.
@post 23 - "Am I missing something?" - Yeah you're missing the part where this isn't a Metallica album.
Yeah guys...remember this is not a Metallica record. Nope. It's cleary not Metallica playing those huge stacks, and obviously that's just a Hetfield impersonator.
Metallica's name is also never seen anywhere whenever this project is mentioned. The website isn't called LouReedMetallica.com either. This is not an album with Metallica on it. It's a Lou Reed album. Hence why there is NO mention of this having anything to do with Metallica.
You Metallica fanboys have such an unrealistic sense of entitlement. And as far as what the fans' voices mean, these are the same people that b****ed about how dumb "Soul Sucka" was for an album title, then they just went and downloaded it anyways. Way to tarnish Ozzy's original vision with your stupidass crybaby entitlement issues. You are all a bunch of f***ing hypocrites. Metallica AND Lou Reed are both about 70 years old. That is why their music sucks now. That's it. Stop acting like your fanboy fantasy is going to come true just because you aren't open-minded enough to appreciate this pair-up just for it's novelty value. Trust me, the only people that WON'T be treating this like a novelty are the Lou Reed / Velvet Underground fans. I'm going to listen to it, but I'm not buying it, whether I like it or not.
ok cr4wford, so which is the lesser of two evils, to b**** about a metallica project and download it, or support a metallica project and download it? as everyone knows well, metallica is completely against downloading their product. personally, i am going to b**** about it and buy it the day it comes out.
Just now read about the whole "Soul Sucka" thing. I honestly pay no attention to Ozzy these days. I wish I could still see the man as anything but a parody of himself. Considering the lack of musical quality he's shown lately I figured he was just going to retire or become the next judge on American Idol. Now that's metal!
Money talks and buls#*t walks...sounds like an interesting duet of sorts, but I anticipate by this 90 second teaser that it is going to suck...Last great lp from Lou was New York...but if you are an old hippie like me, you may really like alot of what Lou has done over his almost 50 years in pop music...Metallica's output has been subpar for quite some time now...I did like the black LP and the redone Garage days...but all else is very average stuff...boring song writing will usually kill a band in their later years...bands should break up after 10 years together...

Wow,it only gets worse when Lou tries to sing! The spoken word crap just does not mesh with the music at all! I can imagine some sh** rag like Rolling Stone applauding this as a work of epic genious, but not to many others.
