About The Writers: September 2011 Activities

Metalunderground.com is a site run by a variety of people who are passionate about both metal and the wider musical world in general. Several of our staff members are involved with side projects outside of the website that you may be interested in checking out. This month we'll again be highlighting a sampling of our staff's current activity and their involvement in the metal and music community.

Frank (aka Prgoressivity_In_All) will be providing daily wrap-up coverage on Metalunderground.com of the ProgPower USA XII event in Atlanta, GA next week (September 15th through the 17th) with photos, interviews, and write-ups of the bands' sets to follow. There is to be a world-exclusive event where Evergrey will be playing the entire "In Search of Truth" album from start to finish at the festival, along with performances by Ihsahn, Therion, Sanctuary, Powerglove, Forbidden, and more. In addition, Frank has an upcoming opinion/editorial on online funding campaign companies for struggling bands (i.e. Kickstarter). He is also working on a new EP of rock songs under the band name Flight Plan, with the debut album already available on iTunes. Frank has released four prior albums, the latest of which was a self-played, self-recorded, self-released progressive metal concept album (Details available at this location).

Emily (aka buickmckane) will be attending graduate school in the spring and is trying to set up a haunted horror theater for the month of October. She is still working for a New Orleans entertainment magazine and enjoying Bloody-disgusting.com's film selections at the AMC theater.

Mike (aka OverkillExposure) is a regular staff contributor to Outburn Magazine, and has done a wealth of metalriffic journalism for the sites MetalEater and Cosmos Gaming. A huge movie fan, Mike is also a screenwriter involved with numerous projects and a producer/publicist for the upcoming short dark comedy "20 Ways," screening soon at a major festival near you.

James (aka Cynic) has tentatively finished the recording, mixing, and artwork for a yet unnamed gothic/doom metal EP and is hoping for a late 2011 or early 2012 release date. Despite having initial interest from signed artists James is still searching for a vocalist to complete the process (interested parties can contact cynic [AT] metalunderground.com). James has also written an upcoming Op-Ed column on a compelling new wave of black metal and is otherwise eagerly awaiting a great end to the year with releases from Cynic, Hammers of Misfortune, Mournful Congregation, My Dying Bride, and more.

Ty (aka xFiruath) is currently interviewing bands for a follow up to his article earlier this year about Christian “unblack” metal. The upcoming editorial focuses on pagan metal, its various branches and classifications, and where it fits in the overall metal scene.

Finally, please welcome our newest contributors CROMCarl from Connecticut and Darren (aka Rex_84) from Texas.
