Kittie Posts Behind-The-Scenes Footage From "I've Failed You" Album

Kittie has revealed the first of many behind the scenes clips of the band hard at work on the upcoming record "I've Failed You," which is due out August 30th. You can check out the clip below.
The band will "I've Failed You" on August 30th, 2011 via eOne Music. For this effort, Kittie enlisted the talents of Siegfried "Siggy" Meier at Beach Road Studios in Goderich Ontario who took on producing rolls.
Kittie recently shot a music video for the new song "We Are The Lamb" last month in New York. "'We Are The Lamb is the first single and is about as musically devastating as we get. It is a tale of self sacrifice, to give those you love a chance to grow and learn to live for themselves. I cannot express to you how proud of this album we are. 'I've Failed You' is real, honest, angry and ugly," says front woman Morgan Lander.

@1 and 2: I don't care what they have between their legs, they don't garner my attention because they just don't have the piss and vinegar that they had on their first album. Touring with ICP didn't do them any favors either. I have no issue with chicks that bring more to the table than just image. Arch Enemy, Drain S.T.H., hell I might even pay to see Opeth next stop, but Kittie?... Pass. BTW, great job at turning their new album press release into a gender debate. I'm sure Kittie appriciates that.

Blindgreed: Well I don't always represent what 'most Women' think, but alright, ha. A few people tend to think I'm a bit of a sexist because I don't always favor Female groups/artists or things like that. But when Women are good at what they do I like them very much, hence Arch Enemy, Amberian Dawn, and other female fronted bands I actually like. As for Kittie, it appears they belong in the litter box.

Cynic: I'll go along with that, but the music needs to stand on its own. When they were fresh and new, I liked what they did. After the first lineup change, it was just meh and has consistently dwindled since. I'd probably still throw one into each of em, but i'm a fvcking pig.

Guess im to old to be hip to this ICP crap. But Kittie? They had their 15 mins during the height of nu metal. I remember that song Spit. Thats about it. Until i read they toured with ICP,i didnt even know they were still a band. Cant imagine Kittie earning 'metal' cred for touring with ICP,but who knows.

Okay, I totally had to add my two pennies to this...
I think Kittie sucks...Their first albums were sh** because it was Nu Metal. Hell, I could've compared each song from their first two albums to a Korn song. Then they started doing a more traditional Heavy Metal sound (and a random Metalcore album). Granted, I respect any Nu-core bands that realize that they suck and then make an attempt to actually play their instruments in a more resepectable genre. But Kittie is really just that: attempting to actually play their instruments.
With that said, I want to also mention that sometimes women get mad at me when I refer to someone as a b****. Understand this: I don't call you b**** because you're a woman. I call you a b**** because you're a b**** (and plenty of men are b****es too). And I like to call sh** as I see sh**. I don't dislike Kittie because they're women in a Metal band. I dislike Kittie because they f***ing suck in their genre. Nothing personal, I'm sure they're cool people, but plain and simple, they just suck. And I feel that them being an all-woman Metal band just makes them more of a novelty, rather than a good band, and thats their following.
Now, if you want women in Metal whose music I actually like and respect:

ICP is a giant f***ing joke. As someone that listens to Metal and underground Rap, I can tell you that even compared to other rappers, they f***ing suck (So you can't say I hate them because I don't like Rap). The whole clown gimmick is retarded. And they take themselves way too seriously. Even their fanbase takes it way too seriously. What the f*** is a juggalo/juggalette? That song, "Miracles"...Why the f*** were they asking questions about sh** that was already answered by science?! Maybe if they read something they'd know how 'f***ing magnets' work, instead of just deciding it was "magic..." The whole leather and spikes thing actually originated from Biker gangs in the 50s/60s. It was then incorporated into Metal by Venom and Judas Priest. Rob Halford (Judas Priest frontman) is in fact homosexual, as well as Gaahl (Gorgoroth frontman). But their music is quite respectable. Their sexual orientation definitely didn't affect their quality, and I have no hatred against the gay community (Protip: Befriend a gay guy...They have hot friends/sisters/cousins that will like you and f*** you, just because you're the only straight friend of that gay dude. It is awesome!)...However, I do hate fa**ots like Butter Face that post dumb sh**.

I am actually a bit curious to see if this album sounds as raw as their debut did (as the video describes it). Its been a while since that record and they're no longer teenagers (but still not into their 30's) It seems like with each member change, their sound changed - which should be expected, I guess. We'll see what happens.
Regarding the sexism related to Kittie, that seems to be self-inflicted. They promoted themselves as both very young and feminine. As they've gotten older they haven't tried to move away from the all girl image. Look at the press releases that they control. What does it do to counteract it?
It's not raw. It's chung chung, ragh, chung chung, lalala, repeat, zzzz. They're not THAT old, for crissake. I'm curious, just what is an "older" female supposed to be? Look like, dress like, sound like, be marketed as? Not being an "all girl" band means not being female. As long as they are female, they will have an "all girl" image. Image will probably be "feminine," if not "girlie" regardless. They WERE young and female (aka feminine) when they started? They are female (feminine.) How has this worked against them? What's your point? Ladies rock the support hose at 30? Need to be marketed like 50's mothers, and be taken more "seriously" as "women" at start wearing pant suits? Time to cast the next younger girls for the " f*** me" job? Don't think so, dude.

To clarify my previous post, I did mention that they're still under 30 years old. They are still young, just not as young as they used to be. I didn't intend for it to sound like they were over the hill. I meant that they are no longer teenagers, and they (The Landers sisters at least) have now spent half their life as Kittie.
As far as what they should be marketed as: If they want to be judged on their musical abilities, then they should market themselves as a Metal band or a Hard Rock band or whatever genre they prefer. But, if they want to avoid the sexism, they shouldn't market and promote themselves as a female band. Let the music stand on its own without subtly stating, "By the way, women made this music." When they've had line-up changes, they always choose a woman to fill the roles (maybe with one short lived esception). If it's about the music, then gender shouldn't matter. If it's about the image, then that is where music cred issues pop up. A good part of it isn't their fault. But it seems like they could work harder to pull their gender to the background - at least in my opinion.
But that ARE female. That can't be changed. Sexism is going to happen, just choke down the next set of balls and move on. They don't need to change their gender, their outlook, opinions, personality, preferences, or looks to appease anyone. Perhaps a dose of male sex homrones? They don't need to "defeminize" persay, but if you're not the lipstick lalala type, who cares?

Initially i think they were marketed as an all female metal band. That might have been used as a marketing gimmick to attract an audiance. Im sure they want thier music to.be judged for what it is,not who or what they are. I havent really kept up with them,i bought thier first album long ago.
I don't know, man. I think it's hard to try to take parts from the whole and be objective about it. If an image if Kittie was to be marketed, duh, it would be feminine, they are female. And it's not a woman in the background playing an instrument, it's the entire front. I'm not sure the goalposts were moved for them to be signed, but again, how to you cut their gender and image from the whole? They aren't going to look and sound, or necessarily even think, like guys. They aren't guys. If their appearance and novelty of their gender in their field was an advantage in being signed and marketed, so be it. It's not like scores of others are being turned down because they can't compete with the "female force." There are not many "Kitties."

Your right square,it comes down to the music. That alone makes or breaks them. I do recall early in thier alot of label interferance trying to get the singer to sing in less harsh vocal tones. The music industrys changed alot since they were signed. I remember they played a tour back in the day with Machine Head,when MH was going through thier Supercharger nu metal phase. I do remember Kittie struggling to get respect in a male dominated genre. Thats probably always been a uphill battle for them.

I think the relevant comments on this thread do illustrate that you're right. It can be, and probable has been, a disadvantage in acheiving credibility. Whether or not the gaolposts were moved, I can't say. I do agree that being female is part of their identity. They choose how large a part of that identity it is. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be feminine, just that they choose where to place the emphasis - on the image or on the music. They can still emphasize both, but if they want more focus on the music than they need to do that. In order to stress the music, maybe a little de-emphasis of the image is necessary. Actually, the video in this article did a decent job at that.
My comment #86 about the sexism was simply questioning where they place the emphasis.
Is it they or the members of the audience that put the emphasis? Most of the footage I've seen of Kittie playing live is just jeans and shorts, not glam. I'm not sure you can even meaure the other camp with the same stick. "You need to be less masculine, and look less like dudes." Couldn't care less about the polished image.

I guess what it comes down to for me is,why market any image. They are who they are. Labels used to pour money into bands as a way of investment,they needed to market thier product to draw a fan base,establish interest. Differant times now. For me music has to stand on its own. I love alot of female fronted bands,so gender doesnt influence my buying habits.
DJ, can you really change the anima? I mean, Kittie might be appealing to different people for different reasons on that approach, including the gay community, which they have supported before, and so have a fanbase. As a straight guy, they don't necessarily appeal to in that way. You don't like to wear lipstick, might not find it attractive, and seek feminine empowerment, appeal, or even approval at a different level, or on the other hand find it sexy and attractive and like them as a result. All good, but the same reasons that make the image not that appealing to one makes it appealing to another.
Agree with the music. Images come and go, the music stays.

You've got a good point. They are trying to appeal to a diverse audience. And I'm sure there is a certain sense of responsibility with being successful women to carry that proudly and to NOT hide it. On that point, they probably feel they have struck the proper balance to reach a varied fanbase.
Earlier, you also pointed out the difference between their expectations and those of the audience. It probably is the audience making the image distinction even moreso than Kittie, themselves. Good call.

It wasn't THAT long ago that women were all but invisible house maids or dancing the can can (sex symbols.) I mean, there was a time when things were so limited that working out of the home probably amounted to prostitution! It's to still see today the struggle with the idea of image vs. professionalism. There were certainly talented female musicians and composers during, say, the romantic period, but you certianly won't see them mentioned anywhere. Though I don't care for Kittie as a personal perference, I wish them the best of luck.

But yeah I wish I had more to add to the Kittie/all-girl bands thing. But I think I said everything on the whole "them being women" thing.
But honestly, they market themselves as an all-woman band. Sexism is inevitable. But once again, I don't judge on them being women. I judge on them being good musicians. They really aren't all that impressive.

This has led me to a theory that the majority of Metal Underground's perusers could in fact be a bit sexist. They don't give a s*** about this band 'cause they're all girls. I think they freaking rock. What's damned wrong with all of you? Don't you know that metal chicks rule? So what if they're female. Does that make them less "legitimate" than metal dudes? F*** no!
