The Rockstar Ramblings: The Dirty Pearls

The Dirty Pearls are a NYC based band keeping the sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll sleaze alive today. They have just released a video for their latest single, “Who’s Coming Back to Who”. When I heard Penthouse of the Year, Nikki Benz, would be in their new, well, I felt it was worth a look, or five.

The video starts off in the apartment of a rocker that looks a lot like the character Steve Dunne from the movie Singles after the Super Train project was rejected. Pizza boxes, clutter, no lights, and beer bottles everywhere. Two noticeable differences: More Leather and More Tattoos.

We have the first shot of the band on a stage, they are performing in some type of club (fingers crossed it’s a strip club) and decked out in striped blazers and oversized aviator sunglasses. Back at the apartment, our down and out rocker is drinking beer when he receives a call from his buddies, they have spotted his girl and she is hanging with a douche bag (paraphrasing of course – I can’t actually know what was said on the fake video phone call, but because the guy is wearing a polo shirt this is a pretty safe assumption). This is cause for dramatic moment #1 as the rocker throws his beer at a poster of a girl that is hanging on the wall. The girl on the poster has devil horns so let’s just assume this band (like all rock bands according to Tipper Gore) is pro-devil.

Back in the club we see the girl with the guy, wearing a polo shirt and blond version of a Jimmy Fallon haircut, trying to act tough (again, because he is a douche bag). Ladies and gentlemen we have confirmation – We are in a strip club! Holy shit, check out the guy at 1:38 in the video, the guy wearing the funky purple sweater with pearls and is that a phone he is carrying around with him? I am demanding a Behind The Music on THAT GUY.

Our rocker is now driving to the club, its okay to drive because he was only drinking beer and beer doesn’t count. He is greeted by the Rivington Rebels and then in a very cool way works the crowd while keeping his eye on the polo shirt guy and his girl. Then the video escalates.

There is a confrontation between polo shirt douche and rocker guy that leads to a bar brawl. Punches, kicking, and bar stools are flying, and then as a brief guitar solo occurs, we see the knife (dramatic moment #2). For a split second I am waiting for everyone to turn into vampires and then I remember this isn’t From Dusk Til’ Dawn. The camera turns to the stage where the lead singer (Tommy London) is now wearing a silver blazer and matching scarf that may or may not be from the Scott Weiland design collection. This only lasts for a few seconds before he is back into his black leather outfit. When the camera turns back to the commotion in the club everyone has scattered and the rocker is about to leave when, wait, wait (dramatic moment #3)…the girl comes running after him. John Hughes could not have written a better ending.

To recap, we have a down and out rock star missing his girl who happens to be a Penthouse Pet of The Year. A band playing at a strip club. Three dramatic moments. A fight that ends in someone (possibly) getting knifed and the tattoo badass rock dude beating out the polo shirt douche bag for the really hot girl. Oh, and the song is pretty awesome too! Grade A+.
