Hvall Of Vreid Talks New Album "V"

After the break up of Windir, Vreid became the incarnation of some of the former members. With a new album recieving rave reviews, Vreid has certainly come into its own. Despite the constant touring, I had a quick talk with bassist Hvall about the new album "V," an upcoming U.S. tour, and who he would like to tour with.

Buick McKane: How are you doing today?

Hvall: Excellent. I just went out walking today. I’m enjoying the good weather.

Buick: Great. You’re latest album “V” was just released. How have the reviews been so far?

Hvall: Well, it’s been fantastic. Ever since the first records started coming out in Norway, we’ve had a great response. Our music went down and started spreading across Europe and then we started to get known in a lot of places. The last few weeks, I’ve been seeing reviews come out in the States, and they seem to really like it.

Buick: And you also released a music video for one of the songs on the album called “The Sound of the River” before the album came out. And a lot of metal bands won’t make music videos, but how do your fans like the music videos yall put out?

Hvall: Well, it’s been a good reaction to it so far. I have to say we are really satisfied with the way it turned out. It’s important for a band to promote themselves and promote the music.

Buick: Right, and they can experience the music in a different way than just by listening to the music itself.

Hvall: Yeah, and I really enjoy it myself. I remember back in the eighties when they had Headbanger’s Ball, and you could check out band’s videos. No one does that anymore.

Buick: They still have Headbanger’s Ball, but it is definitely different.

Hvall: Do they really? Well I guess people can download whatever they want now.

Buick: You’re going on a full European tour very soon with Kampfar. Are you planning a U.S. tour anytime soon?

Hvall: Yes we do, and I think they are going to announce it soon; a full North American tour. So we’re just waiting for the last couple of dates to be confirmed. I think it will go good. Our last tour there was fantastic.

Buick: Well how long will the touring cycle be for this album?

Hvall: We started around February and we’ll pretty much keep it going throughout the year and most likely through the first half of 2012.

Buick: And since you’ve been together, you’ve been on some really great tours. Who would you personally like to tour with in the future?

Hvall: That’s a good one. There’s so many great bands out there that are really good. If we were aiming really high, it would be some of the old school bands like Slayer, Megadeth, you know. I really have no bands that I’m aiming to do, it’s more like find good bands that suit you musically; that’s why we always play with bands that are from a similar genre. I would like to tour with Enslaved.

Buick: Is there anything else you would like to say?

Hvall: I really just hope that people will come to check us out. We’ll come to America is August and September. The last tour we did there was amazing.

Buick: Great, thanks so much!

Hvall: Thank you.
