Unearthing The Metal Underground: The West Country, England Metal Scene

Every week in Unearthing the Metal Underground, we take a look at three quality bands that haven't gotten as much exposure yet as they should. This week we’ll be looking at three bands from the West Country (the Southwest of England.)

From Ruin

First up on the agenda is From Ruin, a melodic thrash metal band from the small town Warminster, which is close to Stonehenge. Having only formed in 2009, the band can be seen as newcomers to the scene but have been rapidly increasing their fan base in their two years they’ve been around. Acclaim has already been flooding in for the band for their blend of soulful vocals with pounding instruments.

From Ruin - "Crimson Tears"

From Ruin - "Fear To Tread"

Ventflow has been going steadily in the West Country underground for a while now, having formed in Swindon in 2004. After releasing an EP entitled, "An Education In Aggression," they split up for a little while but reunited a short time later and released their debut album, "Terrorsiah" in 2009. After replacing singer Lee Brennan with Tonne vocalist Harry Watson and adding second guitarist Jake Ettle-Isles, the band have been working hard on their second album.

Ventflow - "These Times Of Darkness"

Ventflow - "Bloodshed"

Ventflow - "A New Age Of Violence"

Eye For An Eye

Eye For An Eye formed in 2007, also in Swindon, and are comprised of members who made for themselves in the local metal and rock scene by performing with such other popular bands at the time such as Kilians Red and Prometheus. They differ from most other bands in the area in that they are more influenced by the South of the United States, taking as much influence from blues as they do metal and in doing so, remain one of the freshest bands in the West Country. The band recently posted their entire new EP, "II" online, which you can check out by heading to their official Facebook page.

Eye For An Eye - "Downfall"

Eye For An Eye - "Brother"

Although perhaps not quite as burgeoning as it once was, there are plenty of metal bands to be found all across the West Country. It has a scene and plenty of devoted fans and still produces some of the best in British underground metal music. Please feel free to comment about your favorite bands in this article in the comments below, and check back in next Monday as we continue to unearth more underground metal bands.

Well done Oz. My personal favorite was Ventflow, but all 3 are worthy of more exposure.
