Sorrowful Angels Discusses Upcoming Activity And Parting Ways With Vocalist
In a recent interview with Metal Believe, Sorrowful Angels discussed the band's new release "Omens" and parting ways with vocalist Kostas Katikos. Excerpts from the interview, conducted with guitarist and new vocalist Dion Christodoulatos, are available below.
Metal Believe: With your first material being a success, it was only a matter of time till you started to prepare the 2nd one. When is the new material, "Omens," going to be released and what can you tell us about it until now?
Dion: Until now we have had a very rough time with labels. Actually one of the main reasons that the band originally split up, was that Black Lotus, the label we were about to release our debut in 2002, declared bankruptcy!!! (No that record will never be released and probably ended in the garbage can, sorry.) That is the reason we try to be careful and plan our deals a bit more. Our estimations are that "Omens" will be out until September. It contains 11 tracks and sounds very different than "Ship In Your Trip." I believe, it is a more diverse album, revealing a broader sonic palette. More electronic elements are combined with lower tuned guitars while to preserving the most important part of our sound. Melodies! We have some more growling parts than "Ship In Your Trip" but that does not change the melodic character of SorrowfulAngels, it was something that definitely needed our new material.
Metal Believe: Your front man, Kostas Katikos, left the band. Any reasons to why he did that?
Dion: While it is still a not pleasant subject to talk about, I should say that it was more of his personal choice. Several changes occurred in his life the previous months so we sat down and talked altogether as a band to find out what solutions there were to combine our lives with the band. It turned out that he was suffocating into the SorrowfulAngels context and told us that he wanted to leave. We tried to change his mind but to no avail.
Metal Believe: Although Mr Katikos left, you decided to bring no one new. Why is that?
Dion: Kostas leaving the band, was a shock to us. So we opened our hearts and minds on what we should do the day after. We voted if should stick to our core, as I was already providing vocals for the band or find someone new. It appeared that I was the only reluctant of taking the front man duties and the voting was 3 to 1 (me) for me being the new front man. The reason for not choosing a new person is that we would not bare another front man change, it would be ridiculous after that.
