Megadeth Frontman Dave Mustaine To Debate "God Is Not Great" Author Christopher Hitchens
Megadeth frontman and founding member Dave Mustaine has announced that he will appearing on Fox News on April 15th, to engage in a debate with author, journalist and outspoken atheist, Christopher Hitchens. Mustaine, who is very outspoken about his Christian beliefs, claims that Hitchens is no more than a bully and his criticism of Christianity is “cruel” and “mean.” A message from Mustaine reads as follows:
"I feel it is my GOD given right to defend Christianity from hacks like Hitchens, who make their thirty pieces of silver by judging our Lord. Who the hell does he think he is? Just because he wrote a book saying why he thinks there is no God, doesn’t make it true! Don’t believe everything you read! As it says in Bible, 'Beware of false prophets.' Though, I do agree with his criticisms of every other religion.
"I’m looking forward to meeting Christopher and giving him a verbal ass kicking the likes of which he’s never known. If he’s so smart, how does he explain the tides going in and out? Exactly, you can’t! See ya in two weeks Chris!"
Christopher Hitchens has responded by saying that this debate may well be one of the more interesting of his long and illustrious career, stating:
"In my time as a writer and guest speaker, I have debated with Rabbis, Imams, priests of many denominations and most recently, former British Prime Minister, Tony Blair, but I have yet to cross swords over religious matters with a heavy metal musician. This will certainly be an entertaining meeting, though I highly doubt it’ll be a particularly challenging one. It’s also fascinating to me that a man who was criticised a few decades ago by censorship groups who accused him of being Satanic, is now taking a stand for the so called diminishing rights of Christians in America, which is the primary reason I agreed to the discussion. I look forward to the contention between myself and Mr. Mustaine."
The autobiographies of both Dave Mustaine and Christopher Hitchens, along with other work by the latter including the best selling, "God Is Not Great," are available now at Amazon and all good book stores.
The battle of wits is expected to include such persuasive arguments as this...

This is exactly what i would expect of MegaDave. He is such a shining example of how a good christian should be...did you not hear him preach his message of peace and love to the crowd in that clip? and how about the times he overdosed shooting heroin between his toes?..god bless you Dave! also good use of Penn & Teller! there will be no world peace until there is no religion
@MetalFan420 "Just because an opinion is widely held, is no evidence WHATSOEVER, that it is not COMPLETELY ABSURD!" -Bertrand Russel. Now then, the idea that "there will be no world peace until there's no Religion," is foolishness. "...But-but more people have been killed in the name of GOD than ANYTHING else, EVER...!" -or did I guess wrong at what your response would be? -Doubt it! Name your LEAST conservative # of people killed in the name of God ...now compare it to the # of people killed in the name of human secularism that DWARFS your least conservative # of people killed in the name of God. China 70 million, Russia, better than 30 million -all human secularists (atheists) I could go on and on, but I doubt the truth will register! (There's a BIG difference between being taught WHAT to think, and being taught HOW to think!) -My condolences...
athiesm is madness.
There is no proof and evidence to prove atheism is accurate and correct, if there was I'd be an atheist. Dave is on the side of evidence, only difference is some people choose to deny evidence and mock things they can't see.
hitchens is just another failure of an angry soul.
I isn't about 'underestimating' Dave. It's that, if this debate actually existed, being on the side of religion is a huge handicap because you need to convince people that these imaginary tales are real, and do so without any evidence whatsoever.
When the dynamic is 1-vs-1 against someone who hasn't been indoctrinated / coerced via being isolated in an area populated with religious types, religion has no power, and no evidence, and is logically impossible to defend.
Anyone believing in something with no evidence whatsoever is a fool. How can anyone say with a straight face that the bible is more valid than Dyanetics for the sole reason that it was written first?
Hitchens will clean your clock,He is a MasterDebater..I know it's an April Fool's joke,'cause Mean Mr.Mustaine is too cool to be 'schooled' about the truth,he's the sanctimonious type..Kerry King was correct when he called him a 'hypocrite,a dictator,-an a$$hole.'
Poor old Dave. Can never dismiss his talent, an absolute genius musician. But it surely speaks volumes that the drug abused mind of a troubled man in the fantasy world of entertainment can be taken in by religious delusion. You never know, if he actually listens to Hitch (what a privilege by the way), he may have a chance of understanding a little more. Lets hope at the very least he manages grasps how the moon pulls our oceans around. You never know, he might then have a chat with Nicko, another one in need of some guidance :)
#12 back... and I wasn't joking.
Please provide proof and evidence that atheism is accurate and correct. No one on the planet has been able to do so as of yet (you can see a lot of failures on this topic via YouTube).... give it your best shot you got nothing to lose.
Please don't answer by saying something dope like "Atheism is just a disbelief in a god, we don't need proof" that's idiocy and doesn't provide anything. The humanistic religion of atheism has failed to provide any proof or evidence for it's religion. (yes it is a religion you believe in it and follow it and you seem to fight really hard for it when there is nothing to show for it)
If I'm going to dedicate my life to atheism, you better have some real hard evidence otherwise why would I follow that blindly... seriously why would I waste my time following something that has no proof or evidence?
Let's see what level of real intelligence we have around here.
Goddamnit now, People!! Hear ye, hear Ye all !!!

"If I'm going to dedicate my life to atheism"
That's just it, most atheists don't dedicate their lives to atheism. Whether you want to admit it or not, atheism is not a religion. There are no set in stone rules, no songs to learn and we don't have a special building where we gather once a week to compare clothing.
"we don't need proof"
What? We do need proof if we are to turn from skeptics to believers.
No, no Oz, you've got it all backwerts mate....what you need is some good old fashioned, blind, FAITH!!!
Baaa-aa! Baa-aaa!! Yessa! I DO believe!! Snow fvckin White and the Purple Crystal Chalice of Babylon!! Heil!! baaa-aaa!!!

Christianity and Atheism. Both exist, yet there is no proof positive of which one is correct. There is no proof that God exists, yet there is no proof that he doesn't. It's just a matter of faith. Though I do find it a bit ironic that most christians are tolerant of atheist's beliefs, yet most atheist's call christians stupid. Just sayin.
"Though I do find it a bit ironic that most christians are tolerant of atheist's beliefs, yet most atheist's call christians stupid."
Depends who you're talking to. I take the piss but I have no problem with people believing in Christianity, Islam, etc. Some atheists are arrogant but there are ALOT of mouthy Christians in the world. For a recent example, after the disasters in Japan, a group of Christians gathered in my town centre shouting about how they deserved it and so on for not following god. Similarly, there was that preacher who appeared on television claiming that Haiti had made a deal with the devil and the earthquake they suffered was god's wrath. These are just examples and of course they don't represent all Christians, but I've yet to hear an atheist say something that horrible.
Here in the U.K., because so many of us are atheists or agnostics, religion really isn't that big an issue. You'll rarely find atheists mouthing off about Christians because they don't feel the need, unless they run into dumbass groups like the one I mentioned earlier, then we pretty much just laugh it off or engage in civilised debate, no superiority complex. An atheist can have a drink with a Christian here without a single word being brought up about the subject. As I understand it, religion is a much bigger part of life in the States, which may be why Christians and Atheists take their differences to disgust/distrust/hatred etc.
americanpatriot1 makes a good point. I wonder why that is too.... for some people that apparently don't believe in God they sure spend a lot of time being hung up on it and telling those that do how stupid and whatever name calling they can acheive meanwhile I look at an atheist and say "who cares, believe what you will" in the end the truth will find us all!
Why are atheists so angry? HA HA HA... see Blindgreed1 for a bit of this evidence. Seriously, I'm not angry at them, yet I see so much anger to people who challenge their religon and why they believe what they do so blindly, uh yep it's a religion too folks!
I have not seen one person make a case for atheism, why would someone or myself want to join that religion, club, group if you have no proof or evidence to justify it's purpose?
Christianity has much evidence, Christ is a historical figure, there is far more depth in it if people actually researched. Dismissing the evidence that is out there (when you actually research it) because you refuse to accept anything that may go against your worldview is not an acceptable position, it's weak.
^^^ I'm angry? LMFAO! You assume a lot. "Christ is a historical figure", really? So was Elvis Presley. That proves nothing. AP1 and I happen to be good friends. I respect the fact that he's a Christian and has his own beliefs and he does the same for me. You won't see anyone making "a case" for atheism because athiests aren't out knocking on peoples doors tring to recruit non-believers and get their hands into someone's pocket. They leave that up to the "Christians". There is absolutely no proof whatsoever that Christ was the son of god, yet billions of people like you believe that he was based on blind faith. I guess what i'm trying to say here is hello pot... Meet kettle.
Oz brought up a good point about some things "Christians" do. The people spouting off about Japan and Haiti? Those were not christians. Those were angry dissillusioned zealots who have only a thin grasp on reality. My best friend was a full blown Satanist for a long time. He refers to himself nowadays as a pagan. His brother is a reverend who performed his wedding. All three of us have 3 different beliefs, yet we respect each other enough to acknowledge and sometimes inquire about what makes us different and alike all at the same time. I don't crap on anyone for their beliefs, whatever they may be. We are the same folks, we all have to wipe our asses, and we're all gonna die. It's just nice when people can put aside the differences and have a chuckle and a beer at the similarities. I'm out.
