Svartsot Issues New Recording Studio Update

Svartsot has checked in from Lasse Lammert's LSD Studios with the following recording studio update:

"Day 15: Today started off with Uffe and Cris doing some extra spoken samples before the Les Paul was re-strung for the clean parts. Uffe had to leave during the afternoon, just slightly after Hans-Jørgen arrived in town. After a late lunch break the recording of the clean guitar parts commenced. Then it was Hans-Jørgen's turn to lay some bagpipes. But unfortunately the pipes presented some technical problems which had to be relieved by buying brass tubing to extend and reinforce the mouth piece. Pipe recording should continue tomorrow.

"Day 16: The pipes are still teasing us. So we decide to record the whistles instead. Recording of the acoustic guitar has been pushed until later in the week, allowing us to concentrate on whistles and bagpipes – Hans-Jørgen has expressed a wish to get home reasonably soon. Thor arrived after recording had finished this evening – just in time to eat with us. Cris and Hans-Jørgen had cooked a huge pot of gulasch.

"Day 17: Hans-Jørgen has to spend the day practicing the pipe parts on the altered and repaired bagpipes – it's amazing how much difference the few extra centimetres of tubing makes on the air pressure needed. So work commenced on recording the 6-string western guitar parts. This took all day, but all of these parts were laid by the end of the day. There are a lot more acoustic parts on this album than on the previous Svartsot albums! After eating the remainder of the gulasch, Hans-Jørgen, Thor and Cris head off to the biker bar, finally getting home early in the morning and in varying states of not very sober. Frozen pizzas are baked and consumed before all three of us crash.

"Day 18: Hans-Jørgen has to leave later today, so work commences on the bagpipes from early on. The bagpipe parts are finished around early afternoon, and Hans-Jørgen can return home. The rest of the day is spent recording nylon and 12-string acoustic guitars. Lasse, who has been coughing for the past few days, is looking quite worn out now. Thor and Cris sit up drinking beers and watching dodgy B-movies before crashing.

"Day 19: Lasse has developed a hell of a cold. His nose is streaming, and he looks more dead than alive! The plan for the day was to start by recording Thor's vocals before recording mandolins whilst Thor rests his voice, and then continuing vocals later. The remainder of the vocals would then be taken tomorrow. But as the morning progress and turns to afternoon, Lasse looks more and more ill. He finally announces that he can't sit at the mixing desk anymore, but Thor convinces him to do one last track. At around 5 pm Thor is finished with his fifth vocal track, leaving four for tomorrow before Thor leaves. Mandolins will have to wait until after the vocals – maybe even until Sunday...

"Day 20: Lasse has a fever of 39.5 degrees! His cold has really taken hold. But he's hanging in, and recording of the last vocal tracks commences. Thor does them in record time – even though he was expecting them to take a lot longer. After a run through of the tracks with a few extra screams and growls added here and there, Thor dashes off to get a bus to the station – leaving some of his stuff behind (so it turns out). Lasse's cold seems to be lessening, and he is feeling a lot better now. So after Thor left recording of the mandolins commenced. But before this could happen, Cris had to record one acoustic guitar lick that had been forgotten a few days ago. By around 7 pm the mandolin tracks had all been laid. Lasse and Cris checked through a couple of things before finally deciding that (with the exception of a couple samples that Lasse will record later) the recording sessions for the new Svartsot album are complete!

"Day 21: After initially being completely fucked by the sudden hour change (who's stupid idea was it to have summer and winter times anyway?), and then missing the bus by 6 minutes, the last member of Svartsot to remain at the studio's apartment is driven by a similarly bewildered Lasse Lammert to the station in Lübeck. Lasse will spend the rest of the day resting and fighting his cold, and hopes to start mixing the album with refreshed ears and new found energy tomorrow. But the sounds already emitting from the speakers is already immense, so expect one hell of an awesome album. Stay tuned for more news as it comes..."
