Inbreed Bassist Jason Dickinson Discusses Writing New Material And Gearing Up To Play Live Again

After a long period of slumber, Texas metallers Inbreed have awoken to rock the faces off metal fans once again. The band is now in the process of writing new material for an upcoming release and gearing up to hit the live scene again soon.

As Inbreed dusts off the amps and tunes the guitars, bassist/vocalist Jason Dickinson corresponded with me to discuss the events in the band's past and what's in store for the thrash crew in the near future.

xFiruath: You guys were broken up or on hiatus for awhile there. What happened and what prompted the band to start up again?

Jason: Yeah we never broke up. I found myself looking for a job around 2004 and ended up working for Halliburton/KBR doing military support for the army. Ended up in Iraq for a year and came home in 2007. We uploaded all our songs on MySpace and our page took off. Wasn’t long before the clubs started calling so fired up the amps again.

xFiruath: Give me a little back story on the band. How do the guys know each other and what has Inbreed done in the past?

Jason: Inbreed started in 1996. We are friends that hangout and drink together. We have played gigs all over Texas and have produced 5 CD's.

xFiruath: Is the band currently writing or recording new material?

Jason: We are about to start the writing process again. We have written around 70 songs over the years and have plenty of material but we’ve decided to write some new stuff.

xFiruath: How would you describe the sound of Inbreed?

Jason: Its old school metal influenced by Testament, Slayer, Accept, Lizzy Borden, and Grim Reaper. See you in hell my friend.

xFiruath: What do you guys normally do while writing new songs?

Jason: All I need is the guitar riff and it comes to me. If I’m blocked I watch horror movies for ideas.

xFiruath: Do you have any live shows coming in the near future?

Jason: We are about to start booking shows for summer! We have taken a few months off. We are indie and have real jobs to secure our bills, however we’re looking forward to hitting the clubs again.

xFiruath: What’s your local live scene like and do you play regularly with any particular bands?

Jason: We have a really cool venue called the Music Vault and they have been great to us. We really don’t play with particular bands on regular basis.

xFiruath: What are your thoughts on the state of heavy metal or extreme metal in general these days?

Jason: I love it. It seems to be getting old school again but there’s still crazy fuckers going wild, gotta love it.

xFiruath: What bands/albums have you been digging lately?

Jason: Being from Texas I have been digging on HellYeah's new stuff. Another newish band I like is Hammerfall.

xFiruath: Are you involved with any other projects or bands right now?

Jason: No just Inbreed, we did get involved with Blacklace who was female singer but they were just too stupid to jam with.
