He's right, its total bullsh!t, especially bands like filth playing roughly 2,000 attendance shows, bringing 3 bands and charging only $25 a ticket...
One of the things i luv about metal is most live shows are very affordable, averaging 25$ a ticket, most bang for your buck, however if the irs / goverment doesnt ease off a bit, these bands will be forced to decide whether its worth increasing ticket prices or just saying piss off to the usa all together... Personally i dont mind paying 40$ to see a band like COF that is only gonna be here once every 2 years anyhow....either its a sh!tsandwich no matter how you look at it
These times the art and the artist aren't relevant any more. There were times when the artists were literally lured to countries that lack of local talents of such magnitude. There were the sponsorship, the patronage of art and even grants for this kind of cultural exchange to happen. Obama and the IRS need money to bribe tribal leaders and local governments to sustain wars they couldn't end gracefully event if they rip their arse holes into the shape of British Flag trying. Well, when Dani says COB wouldn't play US in foreseeable future, I can here Righteous Majority saying: 'Big Deal! We have the American Idol and that's about all we need for this matter.' As for bands, they should cut on the production side and get their arses on the road with disregard for the size of 'venues'. Stop being prima donnas, don't wait for fans to cross the whole countries to see you, go there yourselves and rock it, muthas!
RTB, dude! I'd pay €200 for me and my wife, if only they've come anywhere near. The trip to see them, say, in Dublin will cost us around €400-450 (tickets + transportation + hotel room + meals). I can't buy any merchandise any more; this Recession isn't a myth like Global Warming/Freeze at all.
The sad thing is that 25 dollar ticket is attacked by venue fees too. Most venues also take a chunk for merchandise fee also. So everyone gets a piece. Most bands who don't rely on any label support survive on the road by merchandise sales. Its definitely not an easy way to make a living;in fact most bands aren't making a living. They're just surviving
