Legendary Northern Irish blues rock guitarist Gary Moore has unfortunately passed away. The former Thin Lizzy guitarist reportedly died in his sleep while on holiday in Spain in the early hours of this morning. He was 58 years old. Moore made a name for himself in the rock world after performing in a band named Skid Row in the late 1960s and released his first solo album in 1973, before joining Thin Lizzy for periods of time and collaborating with such other legendary artists as Ozzy Osbourne, B.B. King and George Harrison.

absolutely shocked!!! have seen him many times -by far the best blues guitarist the UK has ever seen - Eric Clapton wouldnt share a stage with him because he wouold have been blown away - very underrated guy but as a blues man myself I can honestly say he was awesome and the best ever
RIP Mooro - heaven will rock to that les paul
Only just learned of his death but minutes ago...grew up listening to him,he was one of my most influential musicians in both rock and blues and opened the doors for many a budding artist. Rest in peace Gary..Ka kite..haere,haere ki te po,haere ki te hono i wairua.
who will shine for those out in the fields,or give us the rights of the walkways, while you have gone we are left with empty rooms, jumping at shadows at every rift, seperate ways for us you have laft behind.
was lucky to meet you and enjoyed you live in liverpool for scars tour, who is there here to fill the gap you leave?
no one i can think of at this time, you are loved by so many, god speed you gary to a place we all know of,thanks for your music.to your family and friends now i know how it feels the day the music died.
I saw Gary on the Wild Frontier tour in Poughkeepsie, NY. I drove three hours to get there. The venue was relatively small and I sat in the balcony, center stage, looking down on one of my favorite guitar players of all time. As he played, the venue and my surroundings disappeared and it seemed as if he was playing just for me. Astounding.
He was one of the best and will be sorely missed.

Such a shock. What a lyrical player he could be - a quality not often heard in rock - I'm playing "With Love (Remember) right now, featuring his fine acoustic guitar work which was just as fine as his all-out majestic electric performances. A real musician, a great loss.
I am still in partial disbelief of this news. The first time I heard Gary Moore's solo in Still got the blues.. I was driving in Spain and I stopped the car I was so mesmorized. I had in fact seen him years before at the Reading Festival with Thin Lizzy but was too young to understand what was going on. His melodic sense, vibrato and modesty were unique and he will be greatly missed. Best wishes and sincere condolences to his family and friends.
this is a very very sad day for me and the music world i have been moved and inspired by guitar players for over forty years Gary has always been the one who played with passion like no other he was the one who when the song was done i would always say man he is so great i will miss you luckily l saw you twice rock on with Phil and the boys who inspired you condolences to your family r i p
On behalf of the McClarey family in Harrow, London and Cavan, Ireland, Derry, Antrim, Northern Ireland, great sadness, bad news. I am a life long fan, for all your work, ingenuity and your tributes to music, we loved you, loved seeing you and will dearly miss you. A legend. Gary Moore.
A space in Heaven you have earned Mr. Moore, all the joy and wonder your playing has brought to countless souls has earned you the wings of an angel. Oh to see you and Mr Stevie Ray Vaughan jam together would surely make Heaven, Heaven.
Your music and magic will be missed, I am in disbelief and in shock.

At 7.30am this morning my daughter rang me from work to say my hero had died....I am absolutely gutted, I have adored Gary since discovering him in the mid 80s. I have never ever found another who moved me like he did with his extention of himself..his guitar. My deepest sympathy to the family, and we now have most definately and devastatingly sadly,...EMPTY ROOMS, but IM ALWAYS GONNA LOVE YOU.....Rock in Peace you amazing man.
absolutely shattered. An Australian fan for over 30 years, Mr Moor"s music has been close to my heart ever since i heard that first note. Have travelled twice to London to see him play live boy could he make that guitar sing. One of a kind, the original, speed, melodic, blues, rock, you name it he could do it, with feeling and passion. thinking of his family all the fans, heaven will be rockin tonight,
So sad. I never got to see you,but watch your music endlessly. After we have watched every other guitarist we always listen to you Gary-the best! How can Rolling Stone magazine not even have you in the top 100.Some real predudice-you showed them all anyway.Rest in peace now and you will be back in the resurrection here on earth.I will be the first for lessons!
I cannot believe it just been told the news from a friend, been a massive fan for over 25 years seen Gary play numerous times the last time was at wolverhampton civic hall 2010, A master of the guitar has gone but never forgot, my thoughts go out to your family and friends and to let them know you are much loved by millions and your legacy will live on. xx B.
Well Gary, my old pal, you came a long way in your relatively short life. From selling sunday newspapers on Bloomfield Avenue, to arguably one of , if not the greatest exponent of Blues/Rock these shores have seen. Who would have thought it mate!!! One of lifes real gentlemen. God Bless ya me old son. Say hi to Greeny for me dude.x
i cannot believe this news, I have loved Gary's music and it holds a special part in my heart...I too lost a love one recently on the costa del sol... my beloved brother died suddenly and "still got he blues" was a very important tune in our lives... god bless you Gary xx
Unbelievable sadness in Oklahoma, USA. I can't believe it. Saw Moore three times -- once with Lizzy in 1978 in Detroit, then in '84 in Detroit as part of the We Want Moore album taping and then in 1992 in New York. Always thought I would see him again. But nevermore. I wrote about him and because of him I became a blues fan and a blues writer. You are already dearly missed my friend.
I can't believe this news, he's been taken FAR too young ! I last saw him at the NEC Birmingham when BB King was headlining, to me the best bit of the show was Gary, he moved me and my companions to tears when he played Still Got The Blues, man could he wring every last bit of emotion out of you with that guitar. RIP Gary, you will always be a legend, thank you for the music x
An icon of my youth now passes to legendary status. Strange, how when you assume someone so "close" to you musically and generationally grace the world with at least one more Wild Frontier and then you are face-to-face with the fact that what is, IS, and that, my friends will reign eternal in the history of rock.
i just herd the sad news.we have lost a great talent today what a sad day this has become. i am shocked along with alot of others.gary may you rest in peace laddy god bless you and your family. best whishes to all of his family. we will truely miss you. thanks for all the great music over the years cheers mate i raise a toast to you and everything that you stood for god bless mark from the bay area R.I.P
For the last few weeks I have been playing in my car "Shapes of things" ," Over the Hills far Away" , "The Loner" & "Corridors of Power" Just wanted to hear some Gary Moore. An old aquaintance of mine Doug Ford ,Guitarist in the Legendary Aussie Band "The Masters Apprentices", told me once over a coffee how he lived next to Gary Moore for a while, and what a wonderful Guy he was. He was apparently, very friendly & dedicated to music and as Doug Recalled to me "I can see why he had such power on the guitar, Gary had thick strong wrists and fingers. He was not a big man but he had a lot of power and deftness in those hands"
there is no accounting for why this has happened now, even if there proves to have been some illness at the centre of Gary's death. What we all do explicitly know about Gary is in his music,so that is where we will find him, now and forever."Over the Hills and far away" is an Irish classic that will ring through the Ages, cementing Gary as a Legend for centuries to come, his playing like Rory's, part of the soil of Ireland.
OMG!!! I cannot believe this, wtf!!! This just isnt right man. One of the most underrated (in the general public anyway) guitarists ever !! From my all time fave band as well (who should be in the hall of fame). Only 58! RIP and keep shreddin with Jimi, Randy and Dimebag! You will be sorely missed, this is just so sad X(
My god I cannot believe this!
Only 58? sh** why not 78?
Phew I'm just glad I was lucky enough to see him play at High Voltage last year. Good show. He was a very good guitarist, very influential and good at blues-rock and hard rock. My mum liked him too. :'-(

Such talent...fire and soul ALWAYS. Lucky to see him in the 70's with Lizzy, four or five times in the 80's/90's and finally last year at Oxford New Theatre...he still had 'it'...I was mesmerised when he played 'I Love You More Than You'll Ever Know'
R.I.P. and don't let God make you turn it down.
Was it coincidence? I'd been listening to Still Got the Blues album for the second week now, and this has happened? I miss you, Gary!
Though not fortunate enough to see him on stage I love his "Live Blues" video a lot. Clearly shows the power he has over his Les Paul. He was into his work.
R.I.P.
Heartbroken. Have followed Gary Moore since mid-70's and he was no doubt one of the finest if not the finest guitarist of his generation. He played the guitar with his whole soul and felt every note. For those who have slated his playing it is just SOUR GRAPES. It is an understatement to say you will be missed. Thoughts with your family, band members, manager etc. RIP.
