Nominees for Best Hard Rock Performance and Best Metal Performance in the 53rd annual Grammy awards have been announced.

Best Hard Rock Performance
Alice in Chains: "A Looking In View"
Ozzy Osbourne: "Let Me Hear You Scream"
Soundgarden: "Black Rain"
Stone Temple Pilots: "Between the Lines"
Them Crooked Vultures: "New Fang"

Best Metal Performance
Iron Maiden: "El Dorado"
Korn: "Let the Guilt Go"
Lamb of God: "In Your Words"
Megadeth: "Sudden Death"
Slayer: "World Painted Blood"

It’s the second nomination in a row for Alice in Chains, Lamb of God, Megadeth and Slayer. Maiden has been nominated twice before but never won. Ozzy has won Best Metal performance twice. Soundgarden won both awards in 1995. Slayer and Korn have two awards each and Stone Temple Pilots have one.

The award ceremony takes place on February 13 in Los Angeles, with the rock and metal awards traditionally held in a lower-key venue than the main televised event.

Last year’s Best Hard Rock Grammy went to AC/DC for "War Machine," which won over Alice in Chains’ "Check My Brain," Linkin Park’s "What I’ve Done," Metallica’s "Unforgiven III" and Nickelback’s "Burn it to the Ground." The Best Metal Performance was won by Judas Priest for "Dissident Aggressor," which was up against Lamb of God’s "Set to Fail," Megadeth’s "Headcrusher," Ministry’s "Senor Peligro" and Slayer’s "Hate Worldwide."

I hate awards shows.
Five different awards for country, rap and r&B but one metal award.
Bogus.
Fear Factory and Dimmu should have been nominated for something.

I too don't care for these award shows......remember when Jethro Tull won back in the nineties?....sheesh!!!!....anyway, Lamb of God has the best shot I believe, but I'd like to see Iron Maiden finally get some reconition for all the years of great music.

They are not even trying!!! Its like they a pull five big name bands written on a piece of paper out of a hat and choose their last single. When it comes to the metal category, I would like it if they would just try atleast once. Just once!! And really.....korn.....really???! Who listens to them, and even if they do, no one considers their material the best metal has to offer or even metal at all. What a joke.

They nominate bands that had big singles or big years! Doesnt mean its the "best" metal out there. Which is strictly an opinionated statement anyway. And the bands that very few people have heard of, are not gonna get nominated.....thats common sense

The best award for a band is having fan loyalty and not some trinket that some elite committee gives to them. My opinion however on the best metal albums of they year would include the new Deftones and Orphaned Land records. I liked those a lot better than the new Maiden, Ozzy, and Slayer (especially Slayer). But my opinion doesn't matter any more or less than the 'elites'.

Instead of "LMHYS" they should've nominated "Diggin Me Down" by Ozzy instead. That's easily the best song by him since the No More Tears era imo. I'm surprised and disappointed that none of Slash's songs got nominated. But anyway, AIC should win. As for metal, while I love all of these bands to death, they could've done a much better job choosing songs. How the f*** is there not a Fear Factory song nominated, or one by As I Lay Dying. My vote to win is probably Lamb of God because as much as Megadeth and Maiden deserve to win, the best song there is by LOG

The Grammys are just a bunch of d***hebags when it comes to rock and metal. They hold them in a lower key venue. HOLD THEM IN THE BIG VENUE FOR GOD SAKE.

By the way, with Best Metal Performance, Megadeth must get this one, but I don't see it happening. It's going to be Korn. I just know it is, who suck so much. I won't mind if Maiden or Slayer get it, but Megadeth deserve a Grammy for once. I also know Lamb of God isn't going to get it. MEGADETH MUST WIN! Who's with me?

Up the Irons! They deserve the recongnition for the dedication to their fans and the sheer amount of epic songs and tours they've contributed to metal over the years which would take far too long to go into great detail about. But Megadeth would be next choice, heck even though it's been a battle over the years Mustaine and the many Megadeth members created a unique metal sound that has something ultimately pure about it. Of course I'm also a fan of Metallica but finally getting access to more Megadeth albums than I had heard previous to a few years ago made me love metal again when I'd lost all hope in the cookie cutter so called metal that was being churned out. Classic metal will always live on!!!

The Grammys aren't really known for picking good music but there choices weren't bad. I hope Megadeth or Iron Maiden takes it. Slayer's album was more hit and miss for me, Lamb of God is okay and although i listen to KoRn they should at most have a hard rock nomination if they take it i'll be a little p***ed.
