About The Writers: July Activities
Metalunderground.com is run by a variety of individuals who are passionate about both metal and music in general. Many of our staff members have side projects going on, and those of you who keep in touch via social networks, email, and the like, may have already heard about them. I’m checking in again this month to highlight some of our current staff activities and their involvement in the metal community. Normally we’ll be giving up an update about our writer’s activity on the first Saturday of each month, but we pushed it back this month due to the holiday weekend.
Frank (aka Progessivity_In_All) has started scoring the soundtrack to an independent zombie film, "The Midnight Hour,” put out by Skyline Pictures. He is playing his final show as lead guitar/vocalist in progressive metal band Dark Hound in Nashville, TN at The Muse on July 22nd. The lineup also includes bands Clorange, Montezuma Fire Machine, and Frank The Fuck Out.
Daniel (aka DeathCrush) is currently attending The University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and is playing Division 3 tennis. Daniel has been listening to a lot of thrash and melodic death metal this summer, and is setting up interviews with the likes of Testament, Deftones, and Iced Earth.
Ollie (aka Diamond Oz) has been working on a book, tentatively titled “Empire of the Extreme,” that deals with the history and legacy of British metal music. Ollie recently finished writing for his band Diazepam, which is inspired by bands such as Celtic Frost, Type O Negative, and Gorgoroth.
Cody (aka The_Avant_Garde) is slowly working on a demo of instrumental, acoustic prog-folk music in the vein of Agalloch meets Porcupine tree. Cody foresees finishing the demo by mid September. He is also working on the cover art for a release by Vancouver black metal band Witches Holocaust.
Chathuranga (aka WessamuniFonseka) hails from Sri Lanka and fronts the band Funeral In Heaven. Chatharunga has stated that it's not easy being in an extreme metal band in a conservative country which is suffering the after effects of a 30 year running civil war and political corruption. He is working on getting his Bachelor’s degree in Business and is part of a distribution/promotions label called Hela Distributions. Funeral In Heaven has two new gigs coming up, one next month with a few local bands and the other in November as Manzer from France and Orator from Bangladesh will be flying to Sri Lanka to perform. Chatharunga’s band will also begin recording for a debut full-length album in August.
Dan (aka heavytothebone2) has reviews coming up of releases from Nevermore, Waking The Cadaver, and Grave, as well as a few surprise interviews from big name musicians. Dan works on various projects for other music web sites such as heavymetal.about.com, 411mania.com, and smnnews.com. In between all the music reviews and interviews, Dan continues to work on his movie screenplay "The Lost Soul."
Ty (aka xFiruath) continues to listen to bands with names like “Scrotum” so that you don’t have to. He has interviews going live on Metalunderground soon with Soilwork and Sons of Liberty, the new band from Iced Earth’s Jon Schaffer. Ty is also currently lining up an interview with that band that always seemed to generate the most comments on every news story before a certain forum was developed.
Finally, please give a warm welcome to our latest addition to the Metalunderground.com staff, Jeremy (aka Captain_Awesome) from Johannesburg, South Africa.
We'll be updating what our writers are up to on the first Saturday of every month, so check back next month to stay up to date on the activity of the Metalunderground.com staff.
