Serj Tankian (System of A Down) has made the first song off his upcoming album solo album, "Imperfect Harmonies," available for download by signing up for his email newsletter here. The new song is entitled "Borders Are." Tankian's new album "Imperfect Harmonies" is due out September 7th.

You can view a "lyric video" for "Borders Are" below. (My guess is that this is the actual song, but the official music video is yet to come).

HR, do enlighten me as per Serj's lack of cred...because from what I can see he stands for a pretty noble cause.

well ES, endorsing the kook show that is peta is one element...

having NO experience in the 'righteous causes' he and his goon cronies wage their empty campaign over is another...

hard for me to swallow sh!t heads with no real ties or proof of action against what they disparage to stand on the sidelines in relative safety and comfort and cry fvcking foul...

maybe you know something i don't...if that is indeed the case, then please enlighten ME, my brother

I thought it was pretty horrible.

Had Tankian sang the track an octave higher, it would have sounded EXACTLY like the british band Muse.

Okay so I like the message of the song, serj has always done this with his music and im used to it. That being said, this isnt system of a down. Not by a long shot. This is approaching the realm of soft rock and leaving metal behind. I do not like that.

the message is a utopian one for sure, and not one that is likely to change anything in the actual world. the lyrics are smartly written. the song itself is about a minute too long for me. he could have edited it down to make a more powerful song overall........

The song was ok, message was great. Far too much repetition of lyrics though...

The number of charities that serj has helped, started, and backed should tell you what hes doing for the causes he sings about. Not to mention the fact that every member of soad has members of their family living both in armenia and the middle east in general all during the course of the wars and genocides, that theyve been slowly transplanting to america. I think serj knows a little bit about what hes talking about.

ALL these fvckin goons in 'axis of justice' are fvcking drama queens....

to quote the lyrics of the GREAT (and strangely, somehow pertinent) song 'Ocean Size' from jane's...

"...all talk and no action....yeah, ALL talk and NO action"

ok then... so what are ANY of their DIRECT experiences, and what the fvck are they holing up in MY fvcking country for, instead of fighting for their 'just' cause on their own fvcking homefronts???

money talks, seduces, and makes 'heros' out of empty, pop-spiel chicken sh!ts...

I'm failing to see how pointing out [actual, real] flaws in politics and society (both in North America AND Middle East) is chicken sh!t. Just because the guy lives in America he can't talk about the rest of the world? He writes music to shed light on certain situations. Inspiring people to take a stand against oppression, tyranny, and corruption seems like "doing something" about it to me. Of course he's not on the front lines pushing bills through Congress...he's not a politician...he's a musician. It's his area of expertise...that doesn't make him a "chicken sh!t" by my rationale.

ES my friend, apparently we have much different views of 'legitimacy'

which is all fine and good...i love ya still the same!

i personally demand a level of 'involvement' equal to, or surpassing my own to even BEGIN to take ANY such utopic fairy tale notions seriously....

and believe me, there is nothing that would fit my personal earthly ideals more than for the human race of this poor good planet to gain drastically in intelligence and benevolence, and use such to find a fvcking way to achieve something so fvcking basic as harmony amongst ourselves and our universal habitat....but i'm afraid that is either many centuries, or a few major world cataclysms away from this junture here and now

to me, serj remains a pitiful joke of a man...weak and irrevelevent to the big picture (nevermind his fvcking bank account)

take it or leave it, it don't bug me either way :)

I think it'd be better if he used some kind of guitar-riff somewhere. Right now it's fairly monotone, which I can see artistically representing the bs he's speaking against...but I'm not going to actively listen again.
