Six Feet Under Criticizes President Obama And BP Oil

American death metal veterans Six Feet Under has posted a message online regarding the recent offshore drilling explosion, which is being called the worst oil spill in U.S. history. The message reads as follows:

"Didn't 'we' all think this 'President' was supposed to be more aware and was going to do more to rebuild our great country, and help pull us all out of the hole we are in? Looks like he's putting us all in a bigger hole by not taking action and doing something about stopping the oil leak that is destroying The Gulf Of Mexico and destroying our country.

"Please, if you drive... boycott the fuck out of BP! Do not buy their fuel. They can stop the oil leak. They are a greedy, evil company that doesn't care about any of us, or this planet. We can do something by taking money out of their pocket, by not buying their product.

"BP is killing The Gulf Coast States, killing our environment, killing this country. This is an act of terrorism. Obama does not stand behind this country, he stand behind oil, just like all the rest.

"Boycott BP Oil. Fuck you Obama."

This is the best article I've read since...well, in awhile. Finally glad to read something that makes me smile on MU, it's been so dreary for the past few weeks...

Anyway, as an independent I have the luxury of not having to view the US political scene in black and white, but I think anybody who wasn't out to kiss Obama's a$$ in Nov 08 will agree with me when I say he's totally been let off the hook by the mainstream media who helped put him in office in the first place. sh**, can you imagine how hard MSNBC and CNN would have come down on Bush if he had acted the same way during this incident? Neither party is perfect, and pretty much all politicians are greedy bastards, but 6FU is the first band I've heard in a long time to challenge the actions of a politician with a (D) after their name. Good for them.

Rushing out and "helping" other people solve their problems is exactly what put the U.S. in their "hole" in the first place. Granted, the oil spill is affecting the U.S., but the fact of the matter is the rig was owned by a Swiss company, operated by a British Company and the spill didn't occur on U.S. soil.

If this whole situation could have been solved by Obama waving his magic money wand, don't you think it would have been done by now? This sort of problem isn't just a matter of asking what to write the cheque out for. You can't just easily stop that much oil from pouring into the ocean. Look at all the failed attempts so far.

And to claim that he is doing nothing is absolutely ludicrous. But then again, I'm sure Six Feet Under knows everything that goes on behind closed doors in government offices.

I personally think that this is a pretty juvenile response from a band that's been around long enough to know better. They aren't 22 anymore. I understand that a lot of Americans are angered by what's happening to the Louisiana coast but, at the end of the day, stopping the leak is not Obama's responsibility. Minimizing damages to the U.S. coastline, on the other hand, certainly is.

Of course I'm overlooking vital considerations. The whole issue is way too complicated to fully cover in a few paragraphs. I've made no implications of anything beyond the fact that, at it's core, this problem is not as cut and dry and some people would have it seem and that and it is not directly Obama's responsibility to fix the situation.

Coldiem- I understand where you're coming from and perhaps we are being a bit harsh because after all like you said there isn't just a magic wand to wave and make the spill fix itself, however I for one have quite a bit of frustration with the mainstream media for not keeping Washington in check so far this term. Again, I won't in this post try to argue which president is better than the other because it's irrelevant; what we are talking about is the media's response to their leadership, and the incredible double standard they apply to reps and dems.

THANK YOU, SFU! Wow, have to agree with the goosegoblin. As a Mississippian, this has all been really terrible. Mississippi has one of the worst US economies and now some of our main industries (fishing, tourism) have been hit. Not to mention now animals are dying all over the place.

What really angers me is how slow they've responded, but also how they won't let the states respond until they do "environmental studies" and all this crap. Louisiana has been beggining the government for permission to put up a barrier since all this began, so the oil wouldn't enter their marshes (where a HUGE deathtoll on wild life would occur otherwise), and the government kept sending them excuses and putting them off, saying they'd have to do "environmental studies" to see how to barrier would affect the environment since Washington is terrified of environmentalists...
Look, I think every environmentalist would want you to put that flipping barrier up!

I heard on the news someone say the government inspected that brigg ten days before all this happened, and they they knew it wasn't exactly safe...BP brings in like four million or billion or something a year, but they thought putting a better quality cap, like for five thousand, was much too expensive.
GREED.

Look, at first I was willing to credit this as everybody's problem but nobody's real fault, but as time goes by and more information comes by, and the government fails to ask and stops the states from acting...more and more of this is heaping up on the federal government's plate.
And Obama said in that press conference like yesterday or the day before that he and his administration had been in complete control of the BP oil spill since Day 1 and that BP was cooperating and anything they did had to be approved by the government.
I don't really believe him very much that he's in "complete control" or that they responded very quickly (oh, sure, a quick meeting then go out and play basketball does NOT count as disaster response!), but he's apparently WANTING credit and responsibility for all of this mess, so I'm more than happy to give it to him! It's about time he be held accountable for one thing in his life, since Bush would've been crucified by now had this been under him. The media is so biased.
So I'm proud of this band for holding someone accountable after more than a reasonable time for them to act. Good for them! :)

This bashing of Obama for BP's (and their cohorts) criminal shortcomings is getting pretty f***ing tired. The current administration didn't build the rig or cut corners on the well site. The failure to prevent the disaster or stop it timely lies entirely with the corporations involved with that particular site.
Obama has issued a moratorium on offshore drilling and will spank some regulators who were too chummy with the oil companies (so he says) - which is a damn site more than what the previous administration did, or the one before it.

Obama is trying to fix the problem, while the knee-jerk eco-zombies are trying to fix the blame.

Disclaimer: No I didn't vote for Obama. I'm not a fan club member. I am not American.

Your president of the usa, an oil spill has happend on your homeland on your watch, and you say nothing relevant until weeks later or dont even go down to the actual site 39 days into it?
Remember when bush got hammered for not going down to new orleans? That was 8 days after katrina hit, this is over a month.....
Obama is not at fault for the actual spill, but hes sure dragged azz on the matter, and after receiving all that campaign money from oil co like BT fuel, and being the president, dont you think he has an obligation to americans to step it up on this matter?
Theyre trying to plug it as we speak, but that didnt start until 2 days ago....37 days, and 1 million gallons spilled into the gulf until he did something....that is just no sense of urgency, and as president of any country, shouldnt that be one of your characteristics?

Hammerheart- That is the point, Obama is not trying to do anything. The past month he has spent little time on this issue. Instead he his priorities have been ginning up opposition to Arizona's law, holding a joint "bash America" meeting with corrupt Calderon, came to my state TWICE to hold fundraisers for endangered incumbent Barbara Boxer, and continued his "Laser like focus on jobs."

The economy is still tanking with no signs of improvement.

Everyone knows if that bastard GW Bush would have drug his heels this long the media would be out for blood, and some even are. These Liberals are amazed that Obama has no idea what to do. His solution, as of two days ago, "Plug it up." BRILLIANT solution from the smartest, most qualified man ever to be president (as we were all told). You see, this what happens when we have a community organizer for President. Obama has never "lead" anything in his life, and has no experience running anything. All CO's do is stir up trouble and try to get minorities to vote.

People on the left and the right are disappointed with the O-Bummer. Did you hear his press conference yesterday? Flat, cold, no emotion...why? He does not care about stopping this! If anything, he will attempt to capitalize on this tragedy by using it it to drum up support for his Cap and Tax job-killing bill that the Libs were just about to drop due to utter lack of support from the American people.

For fun, follow the money trail and see how much BP donated to Obama during the campaign......another potential reason BO is hoping this all goes away?

President Obama has people working on the situation and are trying all that they can. Problems like this do not get solved over night. Certainly people are gonna blame the president because this happened while he is in office, but this does not mean people should be saying Obama ruining the US.

Obama has changed a lot of things (in a positive fashion) with our nation. People who disagree need to start paying attention to what is going on. Be informed
