Metallica has issued the following update about continuing to re-release their discography on vinyl:

"We know it's been a little time since we last talked vinyl, but we're keepin' our promise to release the entire catalog bringing you 'Load' on May 18. If you've been following along, you know the drill - there will be two packages, a two disc gatefold package for the 33.3 version, and a box for the four disc, 180 gram, 45 rpm deluxe edition. All the music was half speed mastered from the original analog tapes at Bernie Grundman Mastering in Hollywood, CA to bring you audiophile quality.

"Check out your fav local record shop to pick up a copy starting Tuesday, May 18. We don't have details on a release for our friends outside of North America at this time so we'll hit you back here as soon as we know more. And of course 'Re-Load' is next in the queue . . . tentative date for that to hit the streets is at the end of June."

I bet Lars, James and the boys are bummed out that there's really no reason to re-release the albums on C-cassettes (IF they do, I'll sue them. The idea came from me)

Other than $$$...anybody know why theyre doing this?...are 8 tracks next?
Unless theyre just a sh!t load of hip hop DJs out there that will use this for some scratching or mixing, idk what the reasoning behind this is.....

Why the vinyl hate? Vinyls are awesome. They've probably been asked to put out new vinyl versions for 10 years. With all the old sh** remastered and out on vinyl I might even consider it.

And k.o.a.b., I saw them live a few days ago (for the first and last time though) and besides Clusterf*** Ulrich, these guys are still a pretty talented bunch!

So I guess there'll be a special edition St. Anger on vinyl pretty soon as well? I can imagine Lars' comments on that one;
"This is just something we owe to the metal world. St. Anger's been a classic since it's release and a much adored album all around the world"...

And finally, wouldn't it be more intelligent to release a decent sounding version of Death Magnetic instead of focusing on re-released? Metallica works in mysterious ways indeed...

agree with wolf, if they want to do favours to their fans they should remix ajfa and dm. look up metallica blackened with enhanced original bass on youtube, sounds immeasurably better.

Arnian I would love to see Metallia live, it's just after listening to Ride the Lightning,then fast forward to Death Magnetic, it's just a HUGE disappointment. I just don't think they have it in them anymore.. I think they slowly started to lose song writing talent after Cliff Burton died.

and Branded dont hate because i would go to a Metallica show lol

I guess there's only one thing left for Metallica to do to make even more money;

"Metallica - The Story of the Titans" - in theatres soon!

They're re-re-releasing everything they do, releasing an incredible amount of DVDs, done a 2hour documentary, so I guess now it's time to find 4 actors to play the guys. "The story of the metal giant"... blah blah blah.

I wouldn't be suprised if it actually happened (or is under work already)

Actors? Are u nuts? 'Tallica would play themselves. Like anyone would actually good enough (or egomaniacal enough) to play Lars. Ya right. Would it result in a huge backlash? Probably. But I would still be first in line to see it if i could be. The only person they would need to find and actor for would be Cliff (R.I.P. 1962-1986). And maybe Dave Mustaine. Pretty sure he wouldn't do it. No, definetly sure he wouldnt do it.
