Eddie Van Halen to Hold Apology Press Conference

Eddie Van Halen released a statement today announcing his plans to hold a press conference to “right old wrongs.” The full statement reads as follows:

“Over my career with Van Halen I have worked with many people, both publicly and privately, musically and otherwise. And in most cases I did not treat them with the respect or dignity they deserved. At this point in my life, after begin treated for cancer twice in the past, having some rocky recent tours and getting married again last year, it is time to heal all the old wounds and right the old wrongs once and for all.

“On May 1, 2010, I will be holding a press conference from 5150 Studios to apologize. It will be live without a net, in front of the press, the media and the cameras. Sammy, Dave, Mikey (love the hot sauce!), Gary, Charlie Sheen, Kenny Chesney, my hip surgeon and cancer specialists, Valerie, Teddy T, Brian May, Quincy Jones, Michael Nimm (love the videos!), even Alex and Wolfie (love the name!) and a hundred others – they will all get what they have deserved from me for so long.

“I have finally realized that despite my groundbreaking guitar playing and the fact that I drove the unbelievably popular music for every Van Halen album, those folks are the real stars of Van Halen and deserve better.

“It is time for me to take my rightful place playing rhythm in the back while everyone else gets to be at the front of the stage singing the chorus and playing the solos. Looks like I’m going to get the one break I’ve had coming up since 1981.

“I’ll see everyone in a month. Love Eddie.”

Jimmy j, suffer from reading comprehension?? The first two names are Sammy, then Dave...

Anyway, I am not buying it one bit that Mr, Ego Van Halen is going to deflate. No sir, he is setting us up for a new world tour with 2 sets.. one with Sammy then one with Dave followed by a guest (chuckle) appearance by Gary. The encore will have all 3 of them on the stage at the same time.

I thought Eddie had finally come to his senses. In the 70's Eddie was the one of the most inventive guitarists in rock history, with a guitar tone as unmistakable as Hendrix himself.

Eddie invented few unique guitar riffs since 1984, when Roth originally left the band.

Eddie got rid of his old Marshall, his original sound, his homemade guitar, plus his wiley, youthful playing techniques, and began using Van Halen as a way to cash in on pop musi. He wanted to please preppy high school students and 14 year old girls.

Then he named one of the crappiest toned guitars in metal history after his poor son...the Peavy Wolfgang. The Frankenstrat is now trivialized being sold to rich kids for thousands of dollars, while poorer kids like Eddie was in the 70's, don't even care about his early albums.

If Eddie would let the other band members show their talents like the early days, he would not be stumbling around a stage set that looks like it was designed by a feng shui specialist like we saw on this recent tour.

I thought maybe there was a chance we'd see the hands of time turned back, to witness a Van Halen sound, tone, band, stage set and bazillion lights and ear-splitting decibels, like the 1981 tour I saw....good ole days. But going backwards is not time's way.
