Iron Maiden Completes Eight Songs For New Album

Band Photo: Iron Maiden (?)

According to American radio host Eddie Trunk, British heavy metal legends Iron Maiden has completed eight songs for their forthcoming fifteenth studio album. A message from Trunk reads as follows:

"Got a call from Maiden drummer Nicko McBrain last night (January 1st). Nicko just opened a new restaurant in Florida called Rock & Roll Ribs. Said it's gone well and he is planning an official grand opening soon. Nicko also told me Maiden are headed into the studio in a couple weeks to start work on a new CD. He said there was about eight songs written so far so the band would probably need to come up with a few more new songs while recording. Said the material was a little different than past albums and they were taking their time with the recording schedule. New CD probably won't come out until 2011 however a good chance of some Maiden live shows over the summer. I'll keep you posted as I learn more and can share. Nicko will be coming on the radio shows soon to update us on all fronts. Always fun to talk with him, real good guy."

So long as they don't play the new album from start to finish again when they tour, I'm cool. Matter Of Life And Death was alright, had a couple of good songs but I prefered Brave New World and Dance Of Death personally. More or less the only Maiden I listen to nowadays is the Di'anno era but I know I'll end up buying this one.

Can't remember what it sounded like to be honest. I lost my copy of the album and I'm in no rush to get it back. I thought most of the songs were far too long and some were quite boring. I've never been a fan of the epic stuff anyway as I've always seen it as self-indulgent.

I think Maiden should just stop now.

Don't get me wrong, I used to be a huge fan, and actually my first gig was Anthrax supporting Maiden back in 1990, but now they have just become so secondary.

Some bands understand when their albums are starting to fall into the B or C category even in their own catalogs, and Iron Maiden doesn't seem to have that ability. It would be horrible to see them becoming a joke, which is the direction they are headed now.

BG1, They are amazing musicians, and still put an awesome live show (I've seen them 6 times myself, the only even slightly disappointing show was back in late 1992, when Bruce had the flu. This was in Helsinki with Testament opening for them ) and I have the hugest, HUGEST respect for them.

It's great to see a band that the parents wanted to go away all through the 80s and 90s being still around, and going as strong as ever... but....
BUT, Iron Maiden, will you guys Please put more effort into songwriting and new tunes!!!!!!!!
Most of the latest albums definitely belong to the B or perhaps C category in the whole Iron Maiden catalog, and that's no good, obviously. Sure, it's practically impossible to beat "The Beast", "Powerslave" or "7th son", but still...

Just saying :)

Wolf: Understood. May I point out though that there is some irony in your last sentence. Back in the day, people declared Powerslave as the beginning of the end for Maiden and 7th Son was bassically shunned amongst many I hung out with at the time so could it be that they are appealing to a different audiece? Who knows, but I do know that their live show is AMAZING even for a bunch of old guys. lolz.

IMO AMOLAD was better than BNW, DOD, TXF, VXl, NPFTD, and may be FOTD, why?

BNW has great music but I think the lyrics are kind of repetitive (out of the silent planet, dream of mirrors, blood brothers, BNW...etc .

DOD was great too, but is not heavy enough, it has a lot of catchy songs.

AMOLAD? give it a chance!, just listen brighter than a thousand suns, for the greater good god, these colors don't run, The Reincarnation Of B.B., Different World, those are truly great and heavy, and will become legendary tracks.

BUT I LOVE EVERYTHING MAIDEN DOES, I'm kind of sad because Ill have to wait till 2011 =( UP THE IRONS!

my order of the best Iron Maiden albums from best to worst:

1) Powerslave
2) piece of mind
3) seventh son of a seventh son
4) Number of the beast
5) Somewhere in time
6) Brave New World
7)Killers
8)Iron Maiden
9)Dance of Death
10)A matter of Life and death
11)No prayer for the dying
12) Fear of the dark
13)Virtual Xi (would be amazing if they cut some each track by 2-3 minutes because it gets repetitive
14) The X factor (had 3 good songs on it) Albeit, sign of the cross is one amazing song

anyone agree with my list?
