I really hope Alice in Chains wins in their category. I love Metallica, but Unforgiven III is the worst song off of Death Magnetic. Never cared much for AC/DC, and the other two bands are unmentionable.
As for the metal category, those are all excellent bands, so it's going to come down to popularity...guessing Priest or Megadeth. Either way, they all deserve it.
Say what you will about the Grammys, but it's great to see Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Lamb of God, Alice in Chains, Ministry, and AC/DC all nominated this year! I just hope those douchebags in Linkin Park and Nickelback don't win! Hopefully this time around Megadeth and AIC will finally win it.
Oh how the mighty have fallen. I just realized that Metallica is listed in a category with the likes of Linkin Park and Nickelback, while Megadeth is in the metal category with JP, Lamb Of God and Slayer. Not that these Grammy folks know sh** about metal, but still...
great, another year the metal catagory sucks a$$ in the grammy's.
my personal nominations would be:(not to be taken with a gain of salt)
Mastodon: The Last Baron
Nile: Permitting the Noble Dead to Descend to the Underworld
Behemoth: Shemhamforash
Suffocation: Blood Oath
Between the Buried and Me: Obfuscation

Well, Nickelback and Linkin Park are in the "hard rock" category (along with Metallica, haa!) so I dont know if I could argue with that.
At least those 5 mentioned along the "Metal " category are bands I actually consider as Metal.
And I dont understand why Mastodon is not there either. Ridiculous!
I guess someone just flicked through the past 3months of Rolling Stone magazine and decided who deserves a nomination based on success. Sad world we live in.
Even more so as I got sacked today :(
Post 6: So because a band is younger they're instantly better? By that logic, Linkin Park is better than Black Sabbath and Bullet For My Valentine is better than Motorhead. Think man.
I'm rooting for Priest but it would be nice for Ministry to win and have another accolade to add to the final chapter.
as wolf 7 pointed out at least theres 5 METAL bands in the metal category, but they always seem to choose the lame song when they nominate something, not to hate on slayer jp megadeth and log, those are all pretty solid songs. but my experience with grammy's and likewise bullsh** is its always the sh**tiest song on the album that gets picked. or at least it seems like it.
megadeth deserve some credit, mustaine has worked hard and produced some awesome albums and i think endgame might have been a bit better that its competitions albums.
im aussie and i still to this day am amazed at the fanatical ACDC following. they are ok but cmon they're not that good.
Post 26:
No by that logic, I mean the others are old as f*** and already had enough spotlight. They all put out mediocre albums, where as LoG put out one of there best.
That being said, I would like LoG to win. But they are up against a lot of "Legends" in the industry.
The age of a band really really shouldn't matter. I've always though LoG sucked a$$ anyway. Wasn't impressed with anything I heard. Saw them live in June and they were boring. I've seen the other four bands and they were great live and I believe the other four have put out better albums too. I think only Slayer has won a Grammy before so it would be a nice addition to the other's resume or whatever.
I rarely watch the Music Awards shows now - although I must say that American Music Award show was pretty okay/that Lady Ga-Ga nearly destoyed that stage... 'Anyway, The GRAMMY's should be interesting with that Hard Rock & Metal Catagories of Bands so mentioned above: I think Alice In Chains have a raw solid sound as do legendary Icons AC/DC either one can take that title and Judas Priest & Slayer etc.,. are masters at their music crafts so it's gonna be a heavy tulse-up choice to pick the winning groove for those two. I'm surprise that really "strange" psychodellic/Metal band MASTODON aren't nominated for an Award... Well, anyway all the best to the Nominated bands above when someone poured their Heart N Soul into their music/lyrics well they already won the prize rather they were nominated or not. All the best. Peace!
Either Lamb of God or Megadeth should win for Metal. I love Slayer and all, but they have won the last 2 times when they didn't deserve either one. Scratch that, Metallica won the last time (but they didn't deserve that either). If Metallica wins for Hard Rock and not Alice in Chains, I will be p***ed. STAY METAL MY FRIENDS!
Now Playing: "All I Had (I Gave)" by Crowbar
Oz: LOG was boring live??? WTF. LoG kicked my a$$ when they came through! Maybe they're not your cup O tea but give credit where it's due these guys have been touring and working their asses off for years and are finally recognized as a big name. I agree with bristowe...wrath is by far their best yet and the other nominees need to "pass the torch" after their latest albums.
Even though I care less about the Grammy awards, the Grammy jury is soooo hung up on Metallica, any sh** they play is nominated and more often than not they win. That's plain bias. Unforgiven 3 is one of their worst songs. I mean they won a grammy for St. Anger, that was the biggest joke.
I will say this once and only once....No album this year will top what Between the Buried and Me created with their new album. If you don't believe me then you did not listen to the album.
I also just realized this is the first post I've posted in months. I'm back!!!
Now Playing: "Gone Hollywood" by Supertramp
Lamb Of God are great musicians and all that, but I honestly believe they're the most overrated band going. I kept being told to check them out and when I did, I thought what I heard was average. Then I get told I have to listen to certain eras or something, I did, still wasn't impressed. "No man! See them live! They'll blow you away!"... They didn't. I don't know if it was because it was an outdoor festival or whatever, but I still found them boring and the constant "COME ON MOTHERf***ERS!!!!" was getting on my nerves. So I went and got a drink instead. I don't have a problem with LOG as such and I'm not saying they don't deserve any credit, I'd take them over Linkin Park or Avenged Sevenfold any day, but hearing all the time about how great they are when I really can't hear anything special is annoying as f***.
To be fair, Metallica and Pantera have influenced a tonne of bands. KISS is another example of the hype being greater than the music. Have to agree that as much as I love Metallica and Pantera, they are overhyped. I don't listen to them as much as I listen to Judas Priest or Sepultura for example.
I wonder how Metallica can go from "Metal" to "Hard Rock" ? Oh wait I know, its called "Load", "reload" "Lars is a fa**ot a$$ b**** who wants to be the front man, and sucks as a drummer". JETHRO TULL FOR THE WIN. LoG or Slayer should just get both awards. And why is Megadeth still called 'Metal'? They havent been metal since I was a kid. And I'm old, just ask my wife. EAT MY POO!
How can you Say "They influenced tons of noneworthy bands and they are responsable for anomalies such as A7X, Bullet for you know what and etc, etc.". When everyone to Zakk Wydle, to Kerry King call him an influence? He may not be who got them into metal, but he kept EVERYONES heart Metal during the '90's when metal was not "in". Or are you not old enough to know what you are talking about? Do you work for Wikilipidia Because you are talking about nothing that you seem to know about. Start reading interviews with your favorite bands, not just make stuff up. AND FYI both AX7 and BULLETT site Metallica as there main influence. Blame them, leave Pantera and Dimes legacy alone. He would do the same for you.
Bla bla bla. Zak Wylde and Kerry King doesn't mean a sh** to me, cuz their best days is in the past. I also thought that death and black kept the metal alive not some sissy groove bands with choped of riffs, but I guess you know better. Excuse me and good night.
ACDC-past their prime. Linkin Park and Nickelback-f**kin gay. Metallica-just die already, stop beating a dead horse. When your sharing a stage with Aretha Franklin...AIC takes hard rock for me. Agreed, Mastadon should on here for metal. Love all these bands anyway, tho, I say Megadeth finally takes one.
Slayer for Best Metal Performance, although Headcrusher is
a f***** awesome song. No to Stinkin Park, hell no to Nickelback, just because they're Nickelback. No to AC/DC, best days are behind them, Unforgiven III is unforgivable, so Alice in Chains should win Best Hard Rock. But you never
know with those idiots at the Shammys, Jethro Tull anyone?
