Amorphis Nominated for Finnish Composers' Copyright Society's Teosto Prize
Amorphis have been nominated for the the biggest music award in Finland, the Finnish Composers' Copyright Society's annual Teosto Prize. This award is not bound to any musical genre or style, and accordingly the nominees - six in all - represent the variety of Finnish music from popular music to folk, jazz as well as contemporary classical. The nominees and winners will be chosen on the grounds of the boldness, originality and innovativeness of the works.
To quote from the preliminary panel's reasonings for the choice of candidates:
"Compositions by Esa Holopainen, Santeri Kallio, Tomi Koivusaari and Tomi Joutsen and arrangements by Amorphis on the album Skyforger. The compositions and arrangements combine boldly the elements of folk, progressive rock and heavy metal. The emotional scale of the melodically voluble songs reaches from lyricism to flamboyance."
The winner of the prestige award will be announced on 1 December.
In other news, on Monday, November 9, guitarist Esa Holopainen and singer Tomi Joutsen will be guests on Finnish MTV3's Huomenta Suomi show. The feature will start at ca. 8:50 am.
