Steel Panther's Michael Starr Talks "Feel The Steel"

Glam metal band Steel Panther both pays massive tribute to and also mercilessly mocks the various cock rock and glam pioneers of the '80s and '90s. Their new full-length album “Feel The Steel” saw its North American release on October 6th, and features a huge list of guest musicians from bands such as The Darkness and Avenged Sevenfold. Samples of the band's music can be found at their official MySpace page. Steel Panther front man Michael Starr filled me in on the band’s debauched lifestyle and their quest to have the best hair in metal.
xFiruath: Tell me a bit about the early days of Steel Panther. How did all the members meet up and decide to form the band?
Michael Starr: We met at a grocery store called "Ralph's" in Hollywood. Satchel (Steel Panther guitarist) was buying top ramen and I was buying mac and cheese. We hit it off right from the start.
xFiruath: How did you first get involved in music?
Michael Starr: I started singing when I was about 7 years old. I had a music teacher that took an interest in me and let me tell you I took an interest in her boobs.
xFiruath: So I noticed in your concert pictures that you are really, really ridiculously good looking while on stage. Any pointers?
Michael Starr: Yes, be careful of what drugs you take. Don’t do heroin that makes you look ugly right away. Look at how Kurt Cobain looked, not cool.
xFiruath: I was a little worried about one thing though, it seems like those pants are probably cutting off the circulation to your Johnson. Is it OK?
Michael Starr: Yes that is totally good. Cause when you take them off for a groupie the blood flows directly to your package and begins to fill up nicely.
xFiruath: You guys have gone from Metal Shop to Danger Kitty To Metal Skool and now to Steel Panther. Is the name a permanent one or will there be more evolution through your various releases?
Michael Starr: Steel Panther is who we have always been we just didn’t know it yet.
xFiruath: Tell me about your latest album “Feel the Steel.” What can fans expect from this one that hasn’t been heard before?
Michael Starr: It's all been heard before. However it’s never been done like this before. What we bring is a unique blend of talent mixed with years of experience mixed with drugs and alcohol and great song writing.
xFiruath: I understand that there were quite a few guest vocalists on the album. Who all did you work with and how did that come to be?
Michael Starr: They are all friends of the band. We love everyone that guested on our record. We had many more that we could not use because of legal issues with labels and managers.
xFiruath: DV/DA (Double Vaginal/Double Anal) – cool, or not cool?
Michael Starr: It's all good and fun.
xFiruath: Hottest woman alive today, and how many times have you banged her?
Michael Starr: I met this hot chick shopping at the mall. Her name was Juicy J. I have banged her off and on for the last 4 years. Northern Cali girl.
xFiruath: What’s your upcoming tour schedule looking like?
Michael Starr: Looking great we go on tour with ZZ Top in the UK in a couple of weeks. We are on the road in the states supporting Aerosmith and Kiss.
xFiruath: Tell me about the craziest thing you’ve ever seen at a concert, either one you were performing or attending.
Michael Starr: I watched a she-male suck her own dick on stage during our show at the Roxy. Top that!
xFiruath: What albums are you listening to most lately?
Michael Starr: Motely Crue’s “Theatre of Pain,” Dokken’s “Tooth and Nail,” and Van Halen’s “Fair Warning.”
xFiruath: Anything else you’d like to discuss, such as pressing world issues that you need to make your voice heard about?
Michael Starr: Buy our record and support our brand of heavy metal. Buy it and if you don’t like it throw it away.
