Rammstein Guitarist Richard Kruspe Explains "Pussy" Music Video

In a recent interview with Metal Hammer, Richard Kruspe, the guitarist for German Industrial Metal outfit Rammstein, has explained the reasons for chosing the song, "Pussy" as their new single and the details behind the music video. An excerpt reads as follows:

Originally we were going to do a song like ‘Mein Tiel’, a core-sounding song,” says Kruspe. “But we were bored of doing the same thing again and again and I said “let’s do ‘Pussy’. If we were to make a video for it, it could be really interesting. We went it out to our favourite director, Jonas Akerlund, and there was a 50/50 chance. He could love it or hate it.3 hours later we got an email from him saying “I’ve listened to the track, let’s make a revolution – let’s make a porn!” and I don’t forget the reaction of the band. They had a big smile on their faces and they say 'yes!'

"After doing the video, which was obviously quite interesting, we thought ‘you can’t play the video on video stations or MTV.' We just found another way to make it accessible to other people. At the moment, we’ve had 6.5 million people watching the video in one week. What I’m saying is that there’s always different ways.

"I remember how horrible it was in the first part of our career to be dependant on MTV and all of those station. You have to bend over so many times to get played, I just hate that fucking fact. I just like the fact that there’s always another way if you wish for it and you go for it. It just shows that there is always another way and it satisfies my mind and that we can do things exactly the way we think we should do it.

"It wasn’t a conscious thing, we just wanted to try something else. We shot a porn video, what’s the best place we can host it? On a porn site!"

Was there any point where you thought you’d gone too far?

Kruspe: "It was really professional! I was amazed, I always thought the porn industry was so cruel and dirty. Everything was so professional, I was amazed."

Were they actual adult stars you used in the video and was the sex real?

Kruspe: "Yeah."

Stunt cocks or your own?

Kruspe: "No comment.

I think both the video and the song are terrible... If it wasn't for the porn thing, everyone would agree... fake tits and shaved c***s are no excuse for making such a sh**ty song.

Hats off to Rammstein for not giving a sh*t and continuing to entertain.. They could have made a flashy video with dancing strippers, guns, drugs and alcohol while throwing money at the camera - And nobody would have said anything

I am a huge Rammstein fan. I have been for many moons now, and the video seemed made just for the shock value, but they do that sometimes. I don't really care about the video. The song is the problem. It is ok, but not their best. and I'm really hoping the other songs on the new album are much better. For me this song is almost their weakest I have ever heard them do, and at the moment I can't think of anything else by them that was this weak.

And this is possibly the worst song/video combo I've ever seen. Horrible song, and the video is... well... yawn.

I think what Kruspe said there made perfect sense. And it was all pretty obvious anyway.
I think its brilliant a band as well known as Rammstein is doing something so outrageous. I bet Marilyn Manson is walking around circles in his house right now going "You motherf---ers..."
As for the song.... I just hope there are at least some serious songs on this one, and not a compilation of Te quiero Putas, Keine Lusts and Amerikas.
More Benzin, Mein Teil and Feuer Frei please!

Yeah, Rammstein push limits. It's really what they're known for. My problem is they usually push limits in an artistically integral way. This is not that. This is for shock value and to push records.

^ True, but thats the key here, isnt it? Since they've left Universal Music Group what better way to get attention after 4years than a single called "Pus$y".

Rammstein mellowed clearly after they went from Motor Music to Universal, so now that these boys can do whatever they want, lets hope for the best.

True, its not the best of tunes, nor the best of videos, but compared to what they've done previously, This one sure as hell beats the horrible "Amerika" and the even worse Nasa/Native indian parody video.

Keeping in mind that Rammstein is now signed to an indie label and clearly do what they want, I for one look forward to hear what these boys have been up to

^Mmmmmmmmm.............. Nope. Still a garbage song, whatever way you want to look at it. Sure it's a good way to get themselves the attention they havn't really had in years (possibly due to the weakness of their previous few releases), but even with that in mind, IT'S STILL A CRAP SONG.

No excuses. Make good music, or I don't want to know about you. I don't listen to Alice Cooper because he wears crazy outfits, you know what I mean?

wanna talk about a sh**ty song? talk about Stirb Nicht Von Mir/Don't Die Before I Do. That is by far the worst song Rammstein has ever recorded.

Yeah p***y is simple and has way too many dumb cliches, but it's meant to be sarcastic. Stirb Nicht is meant to be serious, and it friggin sucks. But with both: not really a fan of them singing in English. A word/line here an there is okay (i.e. America), but the fact that they sing in their own language is what attracted me to them. I don't understand German, and they're my favorite band. When they start to branch out, either for creative or money-making purposes, it detracts from their appeal. I know their lyrics are simple, whether they are in German or English, but when they're sung in English, it becomes very apparent...not understanding German helps to combat that simplicity. They need to stick to what made them famous and stop trying to appeal to a wider market.

As far as the vid goes...wow. Shocked, but I shouldn't be, it's Rammstein. Seems like it was a vid that was just meant to be fun (not serious). And I do appreciate the humor (Flake as a he/she). Songwise, I feel like it's status quo for them. Same old uncomplicated (but again, I don't understand German, so I'm sure it's not always as simple as the translations are) lyrics. And I know it's their signature sound, but I am getting SO SICK of Christoph's drums (beginning of track) and those crappy chord progressions. Same strum, same droning/marching feel. How long have they been musicians? I feel like after 20 plus year of fiddling around with a guitar, they could have come up with some stuff that's a little more inventive. When they do branch out and actually write something unique on the guitar (Seeman, Los) and I can actually hear Oli's bass, I'm delighted. It's too bad they don't do it more often.

We should all be happy these guys showed some restraint when making this video. They are German after all, and it could have been much worse considering normal German contributions to the porn world. Those porn bims could have been covered in a lot more than just spunk.

I love Rammstein.
My dream is to see their performance some day...
But that song just takes the living breath out of me.
I'm completely shocked, of course, but that was to be expected. I'm wishing and hoping that there is a hidden meaning behind the song that nobody had decyfered. That it has to do with tourists going to european countries for the bizzare sex fetish. Wishing and hoping with my fingers crossed.
I'm just waiting for the album to be released in 5 days. and then be the judge of that.
I'd hate to be let down by the one thing that inspired me to learn german in the first place.
Anyhow, even if their album does suck, I shall forever respet them. Legendary bands like that don't come around much often these days.
Long Live Rammstein!!!
