Usurper To Reunite?

Former Usurper and current Nightshade guitarist Rick Scythe has confirmed that he has been in talks recently with his former bandmates in Usurper regarding a reuinion tour. An updare from Rick Scythe reads as follows:

"My new project Nightshade Official has been on hiatus for a few weeks. We did start on some recordings and they've sounded awesome, but the other guitarist Mr. Faust quit the band suddenly and unexpectedly. Since we've rehearsed at his house, we are currently stuck with out a rehearsal room.

"So in my downtime I have been writing a LOT of music. Some new Nightshade stuff, and some stuff for a solo album. I am also looking for other musicians to collaborate with for this solo project. I am basically playing everything myself and then will invite some guests for guitar leads, vocals, drum parts and other things.

"I am planning on setting up a demo studio at my new house and am starting to buy some gear. I still have more to buy, but I figure by mid September I should be ready to record some solo material.

"My solo stuff is extremely heavy like old Usurper, but with even more emphasis on my rhythm guitar sound and style. I kind of want to do for rhythm guitar what JOE SATRIANI does for lead guitar... but totally metal and not all instrumental. The concept will all be end times, New World Order, Illuminati... very heavy concepts to fit the music.

"As for Usurper, The General should be stopping next week by with Volume 1 of a DVD of Usurper shows and extras throughout his tenure in the band. My plan is to compile everything into a DVD with menus and commentary from as many band members that want to do it, that were part of this band... no hard feelings toward anyone, just want to make something cool for the fans - and release it to commemorate the 15th anniversary of our debut album Didbolosis.

"Joe Warlord was talking to me about a reunion show for Usurper in 2010 with just the four original guys and do the entire Diabolosis and Threshold stuff for a live show. For the record I said I was 100% down with it. I spoke with the General and he said he would do it, but Jon Necromancer doesn't want to, so I doubt that will happen. But for the record I said I would do it.

"But if we did a live reunion show, I was even thinking have the 4 original guys do all the Diabolisis album, then take a break and come back and do the hits from all the other albums with the other members... but who knows if that will ever happen.

"We will also be issuing the Threshold Of The Usurper album on cassette later this year. I also plan on printing up some Usurper merch so check back soon."

Wow, what a blast from the past. This band was one of the first metal bands I got into. Saw them at the Whisky a Go-Go in '98 or so. I hope they reunite.

If they're up to making something similar to Twilight Dominion and Cryptobeast, they will be more that welcome :)

They should bring back The Dead Youth... why these guys are in total denial they once were this brutally awesome sick-ass band is beyond me. I like Usurper just fine, don't get me wrong... but The Dead Youth albums were much more brutal. Thank you.
