Megadeth To Tour With Another Big Name Band

Photo of Megadeth

Band Photo: Megadeth (?)

In a recent update, Megadeth frontman Dave Mustaine announced that Megadeth will be hitting the road this year in what will be a huge tour with another band. Although he didn't specify which band, he stated it could lead to the end of a potential feud, which has resulted in many rumours about who they will be touring with as in the past, Mustaine has feuded with Slayer, Metallica, Suicidal Tendencies, Phil Anselmo and more. The message from Mustaine reads as follows:

"Today is the 9th of April and I have agreed to doing something last night that I am sure a lot of people are going to be very excited about, and something that I had hoped would one day lead to another one of the potential feuds going away for good, if not for a long while.

"I can't confirm the band or the dates yet, and I have to go get my youngster up for school. Rest assured, as soon as we are ready to announce it, you will be one of the first to know. Check here at the official Megadeth Forums, the Killing Road pages, and here at TheLIVEline.com.

"I worked on my book yesterday for an hour at least, and talked with the people from DEAN for a spell, then worked on lyrics and finally checked my eyelids for holes.

"I have to get up my kids for school now, so I will check back soon."

Probably not Slayer. Mustaine would probably object because of religious reasons. He is all "Xtian" now. Unless of course he thinks he might be able to convert Tom and the boys.

It's going to be Metallica. Since they tried bridging the gap with the whole being inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame and are still touring for Death Magnetic. Then again Dave Mustaine has alienated himself from his peers for decades now. There are dozens of potential bands for this tour. Either way I'm looking forward to Megadeth touring again.

They still make good music just not great music. I'm not concerned though; it's like every other good band. They can never find a way to make it to New Orleans.

Yes genius it will no doubt be wiht Metallica and good for Megadeth. Metallica are the Kings of metal period. They've made all the right moves even when some have given up on the long time ago. When are you guy's going to either accept the world dominance of Metallica or have nothing to say about them if all you can spout is hate and jealousy? Who cares if it's about money Do you work for free...Didn't think so.

VO, you're right about not working for free. I know that I need money, and that I'm the same guy that would kill you for a minimum of $5,000. But I would never, EVER, in my life f***ing EVER compromise my style for money! Metallica did just that. I don't judge on how much they made, or how they went mainstream, and then b****ed about Napster. I judge solely on the quality of the music. And quite frankly, since the Black Album, the music has sucked horribly.

The real kings of Metal [specifically Thrash] are SLAYER. Okay, technically, you can't just pick a band to represent every genre/subgenre of Metal. But if you really had to, most people would say SLAYER. Some albums weren't exactly up to par with the EPIC "Reign in Blood" but those albums are still better than Metallica circa the Black Album. They never really compromised their style to the extent that Metallica did, and they still made it to the top. And to top my point off, their lead guitarist is named Kerry KING. I rest my case.

Metallica have dominated the world of radio-friendly hard rock. Too bad they stopped playing metal to get there. Death Magnetic was somewhat a return to form, but really doesn't compare with other bands that are active today. From the old guard I'd have to list Testament, Slayer and Anthrax. Newer acts such as Opeth, Mastodon, High on Fire, and Lamb of God. Even lesser known acts like Skeletonwitch, Viking Skull or Warbringer. These bands are putting out quality metal. Be it death, thrash, stoner, or prog.

I'll never deny that Metallica influenced a generation of metal. And I do respect it. Hell, I play their albums to this very day. Jammed out to Master of Puppets while I picked up the house earlier. But these days their sound is much more watered-down and media-friendly.

They have more in common with Nickelback and Shinedown than with the legendary thrash acts they inspired. I don't care how much money they make. I care about the music. I want metal. And they no longer deliver. Thankfully, I still own their first 4 albums when I need a fix.

Don't know if I could see their styles meshing well. Kerry has such a raw and aggressive way of playing while Dave is much more technical and precise. Although I have to say I wouldn't have minded Megadeth's sound reverting to a more "Killing is my Business", "Peace Sells", or "So Far, Soo Good, So What?" era. Those albums were the ones that I grew up listening to. Although I love "Rust in Peace" as well. As Dave became more and more of a perfectionist in the studio I felt they began to lose their edge in favor of technicality.
