Jason Newsted Talks Metallica Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction, Why Dave Mustaine Will Not Be Inducted
Band Photo: Metallica
As previously reported, the Metallica guest list for the April 4 induction includes staffers from the band's previous labels, Megaforce and Elektra, journalists and photographers who have been supportive over the group's career, producers and musician friends.
It was also reported that Dave Mustaine would not be able to attend. However, what wasn't reported [here] are some vital details that Metallica Blog Magnetic reported: that Dave Mustaine will not be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame with the rest of the band, including all three bassists. Perhaps it goes without saying, but Jason Newsted cleared things up.
"There's three bass players getting inducted, and James, Lars and Kirk," former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted said. Former guitarist Dave Mustaine will not be inducted. "Its not my decision. I have nothing to do with that. It was decided by the band, and I think it was just a hard-and-fast rule… anyone who has recorded on any Metallica recordings that have been released to the public as an official release were invited to the induction. So, that's kind of that."
Ray Burton, father of Cliff Burton, who was Metallica's bassist from 1982 until his death in 1986, will accept on behalf of his son.
That excludes Ron McGovney from the three bassists as well, for those who were counting.
Newsted plans to perform with Metallica during the ceremony. For the first time in nine years, "the Black Album band will be back together and mow the shit down," as Jason Newsted puts it.
"I talked to Lars, and it's all good," Jason Newsted said. "I was happy to hear from him. I hadn't talked to him for a long time, so it was nice to hear his voice. It was basically as if no time had passed, as far as the conversation went. We picked up right where we left off. It was just absolutely positive. It was like, there we were, getting ready to get a beer some place. And Lars is ready to rock. He sounded like a kid again talking about the induction, and I felt pretty much like that, too. Getting fired up to rock after that many years… it's pretty special."

What a joke.....Mustaine NOT being inducted with the band??? HE was Metallica back in the day !!! I have to admit i was a big fan of Metallica back in the day, when they actually made good records, but those days are long gone. Mustaine wrote alot of material for the band when he was involved. To me this just shows how big of backstabbers Lars and James are after supposedly settling their differences a few years ago. Anyways any TRUE fan knows the score, and i do believe Mustaine will be inducted with his OWN band Megadeth in time.
This is going to be a really special night. Especially for peolpe like me who really have supported and loved the music of this band. The politics of who's going in vs who ain't is a fine line between rules of the the hall itself and reality. The general rule is The recording band is eligible on or after the 25th year of existence. I don't think Demo Tapes are included. The only eligible members are James, Lars, Cliff, Kirk, Jason, and Trujillo. Bob Rock was never named as an officila member of Metallica and never would have been for that matter!! He was a friend and producer who could also play bass. Aside from rules and requirements...IT'S VERY OBVIOUS THAT THE BAND CAN SHARE AND CELEBRATE THIS MOMENT IN HISTORY WITH WHOMEVER THEY WANT. I'VE READ BOTH MUSTAINE AND ROD MCGOVNEY(EARLY BASSIST B4 CLIFF) WERE BOTH INVITED. IT WOULD BE JUST TOO F'N COOL IF THEY ALL SHOWED UP, BUT DAVE HAS ALREADY SAID HE WON'T BE THERE. TO SEE THE ACKNOWLEDGEMENT OF THE PLAYERS WHO HELPED SEE THIS DAY COME IS THE POINT. VERY MATURE AND CLASSY OF THIS BAND TO TAKE ONE NIGHT TO BRIDGE ALL FORMS OF IT'S EXISTENCE. EVEN MR.RAY BURTON WILL ACCEPT FOR HIS SON CLIFF. ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!! GET YOUR DVD RECORDER READY MINE WILL BE ROLLING IN HQ! THE ONLY THING THAT COULD MAKE THIS SATURDAY EVEN BETTER IS IF THEY OPEN THE SHOW PLAYING ORION. WITH BOTH NEWSTED AND TRUJILLO TRADING CHOPS!! THAT WOULD BE SO BAD A$$!!
i think thats bullsh**. Megadeth has just as much, if not more talent then metallica. I love metallica (before black albumn) as much as the next guy, but megadeth keeps it real. they havent changed thier sound at all (with the exception of risk). they keep it just as the last albumn was. thrashy and f***ing fast. the only reason (i believe) they got into the R&RHOF is because they went for nothing but money, threw passion of music away just to make some money. sure i love money as much as the next guy to, but dont taint the music. thats how you become an idiot.
Metallica is the most influential thrash metal band. They have also had a huge influence on metal music in general, a lot more than Megadeth as well as Slayer. Those two bands manage to heavily influence the underground, but Metallica has been a huge influence on the underground as well as mainstream. That's why they're being inducted. They are the best selling heavy metal band of all time. Doesn't mean they sold out, just means more people like them.
All memebers should be there and acknowledged for there participation in this band whos being inducted.....personally for me robert trujillo kicks major ass....hes an upgrade from newsted....metallica as much as people give them shi* for because there new stuff aint great, i s one of the few bands that can do stadium tours and fill up the house in the US......sanitarium 03 la i was there i never thought theyd fill it...by the time they went on the place was at capacity,....was my first metallica show and since then ive had and given them major props for there work as well as there career.....everyone has haters, this band has many but theyve acomplished so much and done so well......im not a huge metallica guy but i got huge respect for them......cheers guys...FAHQ the haters
I've got a soft spot in my black little heart for 'tallica. Both Burton and Newsted were major reasons I picked up a bass in the 1st place. So I'll be glad to see Jason there, and no disrespect to Rob but I'd like to see Newsted back in the lineup. As for Mustaine, I may disagree with alot of his opinions but the man can absolutely shred, not to mention write a nifty riff or three. I do think in time he'll get the proper respect he deserves and see his own HOF induction. Long Live Vic!
That's really "fantastic" that former Metallica bassist Jason Newsted will be included in this special Induction 2009 Rock N Roll Hall of Fame performing with his music colleagues Lars Ulrich, James Hetfield & Kirk Hammet METALLICA and the late great Metallica bassist Cliff Burton/I believe his father will be present there to accept his son's Award. How cool is that! It is awesome that this unique heavy Metal Master(s) legendary band METALLICA are presented with such a life archieving Award honor along with other legendary "greats" like the Iconic Bobby Womack, Little Anthony & the Imperials (awesome doo-woop Soul vocalize group/celebrating 50 yrs in music..'Wow, their truelly Iconic) & Master guitarist/legend Jeff Beck to name a few whom are also to be inducted into the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame this special April 4th 2009 weekend. I believe the festivities began on March 26 and shall end on April 4th in a big gala way! Congratulations to all the Inductees...'their all masterpieces musicians bands/music artists! cheers.

Who would have ever guessed when James threw the Kill 'em All. "record" to the hungry crowd, the band would eventually turn into a soap opera. My god. Oh wait, going to see Testament next month, all that matters is still well. New Flotsam soon, and oh good, new Nevermore too.
