just got chills thinking about how great this could be and how bad it could turn the remaining members further against one another.
we can always hope this could even patch the rift between them...............

All old albums remastered with a healthy number of rare and unreleased cuts could make a potential buyer of me. A "complete" Pantera collection would be great for fans, new comers, obsessed collectors...

Nice way for fans to get some closure.

What the f***, why are they doing this? Phil obviously wont let them release pre-cowboys stuff and from then on there is no point in remastering it.

^ didnt they used to be kind of a "Glam" band before Cowboys from hell? As for the box set, if theres unreleased stuff, I'm all for it! If not, well there's already a live album, a collection (two, in fact, no?) and that DVD with all their 3 video releases packaged together, so in that case, no thanks

another thought on this is that it could be a record label's doing, once again trying to cash in on an artist's catalog. could be a way of filling out an old contract or something

It would be interesting to hear their albums remastered, but to be honest, they sound fine as is.

Yes, they used to be a 'glam' band before Cowboys. The only album I own pre-Cowboys is Power Metal. It sounds like Poison fighting AC/DC. And their outfits in the artwork are ridiculous. Thank goodness to whoever talked them outta that.

"Badge" from The Crow, "Immortally Insane" from Heavy Metal, "Avoid the Light" from Dracula 2000, and "Cat Scratch Fever" from Detroit Rock City. I'm figuring this is what Rex means by "more than just the old albums". They also covered "Electric Funeral" on Nativity in Black and "Hole in the Sky" for a greatest hits compilation. Both are Sabbath songs.

As far as "Power Metal", they may have dressed glam but they sound like Judas Priest. It's a great album, and Dime shreds his a$$ off on it.

^I have the power metal album, listening to Burn right now in fact, and there is no way in hell that's Phil anselmo singing.
Phil got in the band after that album. Told everybody to get a new image, and then used vocals he took from exorder's style. hence, the Pantera everybody knows and loves today. the old albums are still good though. Dimebag shreds just as much as on the other "more popular" Pantera albums, they just arent as heavy.

Phil jumped on board with Cowboys From Hell. I've listened to bits of those albums but they make me cringe alittle...True to form though, Dime sounds brilliant, the band photos are...unfortunate.

I'd be fine with the box set...forgetting that era.

but kinda funny.

Having thought about this one again, of course the box set will be released by Warners / ATCO, so I doubt we'll hear any of the pre Cowboys stuff. So it'll probably cover some outtakes, b-sides etc. But then again, that might just be a good thing.
