ROCK ON THE RANGE will return to Columbus, Ohio’s Crew Stadium Saturday, May 16 and Sunday, May 17, 2009. The 2009 line-up for the nationally renowned festival centrally located in the heart of the country will be highlighted by performances from some of rock’s biggest artists including Mötley Crüe, Slipknot, Alice In Chains, Avenged Sevenfold and Korn.

“We try to listen to our fans and they've been saying for years that we should play at Rock On The Range,” said Nikki Sixx of Mötley Crüe.

“We're really excited to play one of America's great rock festivals,” SLIPKNOT’s Corey Taylor says, “Being asked to headline Rock on the Range is an absolute pleasure! Columbus, Ohio has always been very good to us. The line-up looks great; the shows look fantastic. And I personally think it will be an absolute blast for everyone. See you in May!”

Presented by Right Arm Entertainment, AEG LIVE and Crew Stadium, the two-day, multi-stage music and lifestyle event will feature a potent line-up of more than 35 bands. This year’s well-rounded mix of rock’s top artists also includes Shinedown, Buckcherry, The Used, Atreyu, Chevelle, Flyleaf, Saving Abel, Saliva, Blue October, Hoobastank, Black Stone Cherry, and many more.

This marks the third outing for the annual event, which drew 30,000 people in its inaugural year in 2007 and more than 55,000 people in 2008. Event features this year include the addition of a third stage, the Jägermeister Music Stage, on-stage fan platforms--for contest winners--and an expanded vendor village.

In 2009, ROCK ON THE RANGE will also increase their “Go Green” initiative via ROTR “Go Green,” an online portal that allows fans to recycle old cell phones and mp3 players for free tickets and ROTR memorabilia and official festival merchandise. ROTR is the first festival to have an on-line recycling trade-in rewards component. More information can be found at www.rotrgogreen.com.

Tickets for ROCK ON THE RANGE, as well as VIP Packages that include festival tickets, hotel accommodations and festival merchandise, go on sale Saturday, February 21 at 10:00 AM (ET) via www.rockontherange.com and www.ticketmaster.com, all local Ticketmaster outlets and at the Crew Stadium box office. Two-day ticket packages will start as low as $99.50.

Static X, Chevelle, Shinedown, All That Remains are the only bands I'd want to see.
I'm not sure about the new Alice In Chains, has anyone seen them play? How are they?

Ahhh, I found the new thread. So I promised to report on the latest Friday the 13th. The Gothic Queen and I saw it Saturday and we like it. We will buy it when it hit's the shelves. The director did a good job of actually giving the movie a story line and a plot. It's not your typical Jason movie. It has all of the ingredients required (nudity, drugs and alcohol). Overall I would recommend this to any horror buff who had their doubts about this latest installment.

I foresee alot of folks being turned off by the new singer, unfortunately. Many people will be resistant to change in a band they liked so much. While I'm a fan of Layne Staley's vocals, the real tragedy is that almost all of the material was Jerry Cantrell's. He has always been the main creative force behind the band. Not to mention that all the members have stated they always wanted to keep working on Alice in Chains, but couldn't get Layne to work on any new material because of how far his addiction had progressed. I'm going to give it a chance. It doesn't make sense that Jerry and the guys would choose a new singer without good reason. They all have a love for the band and I don't think they would make any decision they felt would jeopardize it. What I've heard sounds pretty good so far. So lets hope that's indicative of what's to come.

It was kind of a strange experience seeing them in concert, they were the opening act for the Foghat and Blue Oyster Cult concert.... (BOC being the headliner)
Before the show, the rumors going through the crowd was that Aerosmith and Ted Nugent were also playing that night..??
As the opening band came onstage we realized what was causing the rumors... The equipment being used by Whitford/St.Holmes was all labeled with either "Ted Nugent" or "Aerosmith".... So everyone was thinking it was those bands playing when in fact it was just the equipment
( speakers/monitors etc...) LOL

Also, for all the other people hunting for jobs here... I think I really caught on to something last night. When I was at a restaurant the other day with no other customers around, it really helped the owner to start talking to me. I talked a bit about the things I didn't know about that place, and that really was what got a nice conversation started. So I am going to do this for a bit at other places, and then send in my resume. I think it might help my chances.

I hope you're kidding about the "I think that's why I married her." You probably are, but with some of the guys I've known, you can never really know. One time in a class, we were talking about what we look for in someone we'd like to marry, and some guy actually said that he wants a traditional woman that cooks and cleans for him. That's ALL he said. I wonder what happened to a sense of humor and intelligence... It sounded more like he wanted a slave. I'm not saying you're like that, but if I met a guy who felt that way, he would soooo be out of the question.

Don't EVER forget to decline a BMG automatic CD. I got Scars On Broadway the other day and thought that I'd give it a listen. At first I thought it was just a bunch of gay punk. Then after 4 or 5 listens it started to grow on me. GAHHHHH!!! Get this out of here! It's too catchy!

Anyway, I was thinking the whole time that I've heard this before--tradeoffs between mosh and ballad, then back again, all in the same song. I was thinking System Of A Down the whole time. Later when I researched it on Wikipedia, LO AND BEHOLD, it's got two System Of A Down members. I picked that up just on casual radio listen of SOD. I'm thinking that I should be a metal critic rather than a deluded aspiring metal musician.

So look for Scars On Broadway on Ebay sometime next week.

Remember that Simpson's episode where Bart harrasses the mailman everyday with, "Where's my spy camera, where's my spy camera!"

I think that was the first or second season. It had so many great bits. The mailman was really a woman so Bart was calling her the femaleman. Then Lisa yells out, "Bart's taking a picture of his butt!" Homer goes crazy with a stripper and tries to show Bart that women are more than just objects all while Bart is trying to sneak a peek. Great episode.

i just recently downloaded the entire SOAD discography coincidentally, like yesterday.

Besides their 3 or 4 cds. they also have nearly two and a half cd's worth of songs that never actually got released, so technically, you HAVE to steal some of them. :P

Scars on Broadway, at least the few songs Ive heard, sound like watered down, less-insane, SOAD, but with down-syndrome, and waaaay catchier, to the point that it becomes nauseating(sp?)

SERJ Tankian though, even though his voice is so distinctive you cant help but make comparisons so his signature band, is actually rather interesting as a solo project. The lyrics are a bit more intelligent, less random, and the overall musical sound is leaning for a much more "epic" feeling than pretty much anything SOAD has done. Plus, you dont have to hear daron malakian's annoying whine in the background, so that's another plus. :)

Although I still blatantly prefer the original band, I would sooner pick up the Serj tankian solo album than the Scars on Broadway album. that's just me though. I mean, not everyone likes quality music. :D

DeathinEye- Yeah, on the SOAD thing. On the first two albums, His voice worked with the music for me. The contrast between him and Serj and the insanity of the music worked great. then he got a big ego, added his vocals in everywhere, even going as far as having whole songs with just him singing, with Serj providing backup on occasion, then decided he needed to do a solo project to distance himself from SOAD(he actually said that in an interview, I'm not just making assumptions haha). So I think it's safe to say that the SOAD "hiatus/break-up" is entirely Daron's doing. Serj is just using this as time to mess around till the band gets back up and running, at least that's what it seems to me anyway...

But yeah, I'm happy you noticed my request to see your stuff in the other thread. As hilariously anal retentive as you've been at times with grammer and whatnot, I can only imagine what kindof great stuff I'm about to read haha. i know I always get a kick out of seeing you and Cynic or psythe going into an epic semantics battle on here, so at the ver yleast, I'm interested. to my knowledge, Their albums are Toxicity, self-titled,Steal this album, Mesmerize and Hypnotize right? I have two extra albums called Toxicity 2, and Storaged Melodies. Excellent stuff on both of em. Some of them though are songs that have been changed and used on different albums. Storaged Melodies has a few songs on it that are collaborations that SOAD has done with rappers that never got released at all. hit and miss for some of em, but the song Feel Good is awesome in my opinion. :P

th tracklisting for the albums goes as follows:
Toxicity 2:
Defy you
Everytime
On my mind
Outer Space
Power Struggle
Side o fhte Freeway
Streamline
Therapy
Virginity
Waiting For You (versions 1 and 2)
Want me to try
We DOnt give a
Why ( a demo for Ieaiaio, without Daron singing at all, and not as well-mixed)
Your Own Pace

Storaged melodies:

Blue
Damn
Dont' go off wondering
Feel Good
Friik honey Johnny
Marmalade
the metro
Mushroom cUlt
Patterns
Shame
Snowblind
Starlit Eyes
Storaged
Temper
Will They die For You

Now Playing: SOAD- Blue

I hope you don't take the copyright comment wrong, FAN. I completely trust the regulars of MU. Besides, not like there is any money in poetry. It's basically a logistical thing.

About the semantics, I just like to fully understand arguments. I hope no one takes that to heart. I was a philosophy major before english, so it's pretty much habit to question everything! But enough about that, this is the chat thread!

What are people's recommendations for composing electronically? I literally cannot physically play anything, so MIDI is out. It's pretty much point and click for me, but I hate being limited to computer imitations of instruments. Any thoughts?

Well, seems they are a bit softer than I would have hoped. My bass style is very similar to guys like Rex Brown from Pantera, John Campbell from Lamb of God, or Martin Mendez from Opeth. Just real meat and potatos, in your face. And while I can play the easier stuff I really just don't like to. If the riff is very open I start to do walking fills or anything I can to fill up the space to keep from getting bored. I can't be just a chug, chugger, if that makes sense :) But I think that might be what they want. I like to be challenged and four/four times rock just doesn't do it anymore. Still it is nice just to play.

Rocky Balboa, Juno, and No Country for Old Men. All were pretty damn good. Drew me right in and really made me think. I know folks put down Sly, but the man can make a good film. Juno is not my usual type of entertainment, but I found myself really enjoying Ellen Page's character and her outlook on life. No Country for Old Men however blew me away. Cormac McCarthy is an excellent author and his book made for a seamless transition to film. Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin were awesome as antagonists and I always like Tommy Lee Jones. Definately worth checking out. The book "The Road" is being made into a film right now and is another example of McCarthy's writing ability. Not for the squeamish.

I am partial to it because that is the part of the country my dad's side is from, so when I watch the movies alot of the people remind me of the relatives that I have there. I haven't seen Rock Balboa. I kind of lost the little interest I had in it when I heard Sly talking about why much steriods he used while filming the movie. I appreciate his honesty, but at this point I am sick to death of the rampant steroid use in America. The only way I could be forced into watching Juno would be if it resulted in me getting some poon tang.

That is the only movie I would recommend from this weekend's views.

Ya know Bruno, I thought the same, but my wife watched it and I kinda got drawn in. It's a little cutesy, but I enjoyed the "everything is AFU, but it's gonna work out anyway" message. Ellen Page is pretty cool, and being that she's really cute but isn't a bodacious bombshell airhead, she seems to get some intelligent roles.

Like I said though, not my usual superhero/barbarian/war movie entertainment. I tend toward action and sci-fi/fantasy pretty strictly. Drama and realism usually hold no interest.

I understand about the steroid use though. Sly has kinda re-emerged for me with Rocky Balboa and Rambo. Rambo was seriously violent. And didn't play out with some sappy redemption love story. At least not for him. I liked that deviation from the norm. Rocky has always been about believing in yourself despite being the underdog or what others might think. Really dig the "never say die" type of characters.

Also have to add that I think what people didn't like about "No Country" was the lack of a true ending. The build up is a definate good vs. evil, maybe with more shades of grey, but is never really resolved in the classical sense. I keep hearing stuff like "I didn't get it" or "the end didn't make sense", which I attribute to the viewer instead of the film. The film did have an ending, just
not in the usual formulaic shoot 'em up style.

The conflict between Moss and Chigurh was secondary to Ed Tom's search for meaning in a bleak and violent world. Ending with his dream of his father carrying fire to try and illuminate some of the darkness reflecting his own role in it. In truth only able to change very little. Almost like a dam trying to stave off the biblical floods. Not a very happy film :)

yea i use reason 3.0 for my drum programming. its easier to build a song for me if i bounce out the fake drums measure by measure and paste them into pro-tools, it kinda acts like a really good sounding metronome, it sounds like crap compared to real drums but it keeps time like the atomic clock. plus i can use that to build my guitar, bass, and vocal tracks and the i can go into the studio and just focus on the drums and not have to rush to cram in a bunch of other crap. so i think drum machines are great for writing and building songs cause you dont have to listen to a drummer run his mouth but nothing compares to the sound of someone who can beat skins the right way

I've known some drummers who were the equivalent of The Flash on meth, but I've also known drummers who were very professional. The biggest problems I've always had were with singers, but being a singer myself, I've always been very open to criticism and advice. There's all kinds I guess.

When I worked in Child Psych I did a music program at a local studio. I taught bass, while other studio musicians taught other instruments. We had a wiry little 12 yr old girl who was with my campus after she had been abused in a foster home after being bounced from place to place. She was absolutely out of control 75% of the time. Very unfocused, typical ADHD, but with severe behavioral problems due to her trauma. She was also a natural on the drums, able to keep beginner beats with high-hat, snare and kick after her first time behind a kit. Within a couple months she was as good as most guys who had been playing for years.. Was an amazing thing to witness I have to tell you.

Some guy who's a client of hers arrived at their office with his fly open. A secretary talks to him and asks "Did you remember to close your garage door before you came here?" And he says, "Yes, of course I remembered!" because he did not get the joke. He walks into a room and sees that his fly was open and now realizes what the lady meant. He goes back to her and asks, "When you saw my garage door, did you see a big hummer inside?" And she said, "No, I only saw an old van with two flat tires."

:P

The impossible thing to find down here is singers(or growlers, screamers, yellers, whatever you call it)

So guess which instrument I ended up picking up first? That's right, I play the throat kids. Picked up the bass soon after, then the gee-tar, and now Drums is something I'm getting progresively good at, despite the fact that i neither own a drumset or Rock Band lol. But I'm stickin with the vocals, because I am the sh** at it (see, I can be modest too) No seriously, I am. :)

f*** Xasthur, I'll be the greatest one-man band alive if I can get off the ground with this sh** haha

Drummers are everywhere down here....except they're all in hardcore bands, because drummers love breakdowns like men love sex...they must have it, or they get sad and angry. :/ At least the majority of drummers I know do. I know one who is awesome and plays nothing but Lamb of God and Meshuggah all the time, besides his own sh** of course, but he's in two bands and rarely has time for them anyway, seeing as how he's a drunkard AND an extrmely dependent stoner, so f*** me on getting a decent drummer. (and that's why I picked the drums up too!)

Blah blah blah rant rant rant.

The closest "city" with a population over 50,000 is over an hours drive away.. LOL

And just like everywhere else, drummers are a rarity, as well as decent singers..!
Fortunately, I happen to be currently jamming with one of the best drummers in
a 100mile radius... Sadly tho, the only decent singers in that same area, suffer from LSD..!!

Hate to compare, but I grew up in a little town in upstate New York called Old Forge. Firmly and deeply nestled in the Adirondack Mountains. My graduating class was 24 people. The funny thing is that while we were a bit backward, it wasn't a redneck town. Seems we had more in common with the characters in "30 Days of Night" than with your usual white trash stereo type.

The town itself is small, but pretty cool. It was kind a strange place to grow up though, I always felt like there was adventure or stuff to explore not far from my doorstep. As an over imaginative kid who read constantly, maybe the novelty was all in my head. But the place had alot of history.

I remember hiking through the trails one day with a buddy of mine and stumbling across a deserted mining town a few miles back in the woods. Totally cut off from everything. Kinda creepy, but really cool. That or climbing a local mountain to get to the top of a watchtower and looking out over the whole valley for miles. That kinda stuff is awesome to me. It's cool to know that in a world where things can get dull and boring pretty fast there's still that sense of wonder if you just go looking for it.

Netro - Cant help but say.., You make that little town, sound rather interesting..!!
I spent the years from 8-14 living outside of town with acres and acres of timber all around me..,
Did alot of hiking and exploring in those woods..
At the same time, I was starting my future life as a metalhead.. started playing guitar at 9yrs old in 1978...seen my first concert in 1981 -Rush " Moving Pictures" tour...
That same year I started jammin with a band... Actually it was my older brother that played bass, and his friends that needed a second guitarist..! By the time I was 14-15 I was playing at parties and in bars...getting served because I was part of the band.. lol
It was the 80s... things were SO different then..!!

its cool living out in the suburbs cause you have anything you need within miles but it can never compare to the relaxation and quiet of the country. and plus the stars in the country are entrancing compared to the orange sky in the city that blocks out the stars

Ooooh you guys are talking about places you've lived in... I loved London, Ontario (AKA "The Forest City"). I remember when I was a kid and I lived there, there was a forest nearby and I would always play in there. :) Now I'm in a waterfall/mountain city. Watching the water at the harbour can be so nice, and looking down the mountain at night can be such a beautiful experience. And you know what other place is nice? Niagara, Ontario. It's such an exciting place to be at!

Raleigh is a nice mix of civility and wilderness, not a bad place to live. Detroit, however, I'm not sure I'll ever set foot there again if it isn't to visit family. There was alot of culture there, and some really cool places if you looked for 'em. Saw the Treasures of Tutanhkamun exhibit, the Titanic exhibit. Every once in a while we would spend a day at the Detroit institute of art just reading and checking things out.

Always live music if you wanted to brave it. Many good metal bands played at Harpo's. Clutch, Type O, C.O.C., you name it. My wife and I hung at this little redbrick hole in the wall called the Taproom, which would be blaring Black Flag, Bad Brains or Ramones instead of your usual club BS. Not to mention all the fellow musicians I met while living there.

Alot of great memories, but after 10 yrs I knew the city was grinding me down slow. I had to get out of there if we wanted to build a safe life for ourselves. Raleigh is slower paced, but more to my liking and much more like home.

Blind that's a very rough one to deal with. Good friend of mine actually had to lay off one of his employees in his dept. that was on maternity leave. A single Mom who had been with his company for a couple years. Then was told his position and another position were going to be merged and he should apply before the other knows about it. Thereby undermining them and stealing their job. But if he doesn't do it then he will out of a job. The job market these days is not without a sense of irony.
If anyone knows it's me. The job I had just been hired for actually put a freeze on new hires and are distributing hours to existing employees. So I was hired, but have no hours if that makes sense.

I guess the guy was getting too aggressive and the girl was pushing him off and yelling "stop it!". The bastard continued so I stepped in and told him to let go otherwise I would throw him across the street into the water drain. He said "Mind your own business man!"...I told him to comply with his girlfriend's demands or walk away. The young girl thanked me and afterwards they both went their seperate ways. A few days later, I saw them making out again...lol...that made me laugh.

Attn. FAN I saw The Dillinger Escape Plan yesterday. So that makes it 2 out of 3 bands you mention a lot (the other being Converge). Will see Pig Destroyer one day.
Nah man see Dillinger. They were awesome! So were Lamb of God!

The world is against me. I'm desperately trying to avoid Watchmen clips but they are freaking everywhere. I've seen alot of 'em and I'm chomping at the bit for this flick, just would like some of it to be a surprise when I see it :) I will say this though, it's going to be R rated for a reason. I can't wait for the looks on the faces of people who brought their young ones thinking it would be another Hulk or Iron Man.

It's already been decided, drummer. Squid is already out. I'm walking in there looking to be entertained by a bunch of images inspired by one of my all-time favorite graphic novels. Whenever a movie based on a comic book is released I KNOW I will pick it apart and ALWAYS be let down by something. So I try to let my mind absorb it without judging and just try to enjoy it. It's not always easy, my friend :) But I am looking forward to seeing how it gets portrayed.

UUURRRRGGGGHHH I lost my bank card and freaked out and so I missed my chance to get to my appointment at the gym. I am soooo annoyed. Then they f***ing told me to wait 'til next Thursday! Why does my luck suck so bad? So I called another location and they'll have one for me on Monday. I swear if something makes me miss this, I am just going to die.

Yea... I guess this appointment wasn't an incredibly important one (my last one was, and I made it to that one) and now that I think about it, today would've been a bad day to go. The important thing for me today is to meet with the Chinese guy who runs the store I want to work at, then send a million more resumes to other places. lol

Yea.. (I'm at the library). Unfortunately, there must've been some miscommunication between me and the main guy who works at the store, because when I got there, the boss already apparently left! That annoyed me. And apparently, they're not hiring right now.

However, my mother's friend is supposedly able to get me a job at another clothing store, so yay. lol

Hmmm... seems that "The Great Canadian News Company" is most likely gonna hire me. Some girl just got fired, and they're looking for part time workers and they seemed so interested that they said they're most likely going to get back to me very soon. And they seemed to really like me... they're such fun people. :)
