Win a DYMO® DiscPainter™ CD/DVD Printer From Metalunderground.com!
I was recently approached by a company to review the DYMO® DiscPainter™ CD/DVD printer, and since it's really not something we would normally review, I thought I'd rather make a contest out of it and give it away to one lucky winner.
Before I did this, however, I had to try out the product and put it through its paces. At about 10 inches long, the printer is similar in size to many of the ink jet photo printers I've seen. I unpacked the printer and cables, and special printable media - yes, it does require inkjet-printable media, and does not work with just any old recordable CD or DVD. I installed the software, hooked everything up and I was ready to go in minutes. It was really that easy (on a PC even, although Mac is supported as well). I fired the software up and began putting together a test template to print out. The software felt a bit clunky to me, as a proficient Adobe® Photoshop® user, but had enough options to do a lot and possibly make a newbie's head spin. (Little did I know that I could have printed directly from Photoshop). The software lets you work with multiple layers and adjust just about anything. I imported a Metalunderground.com logo and then several graphics used on the site and arranged and scaled them for a ten minute layout that didn't turn out bad at all! I clicked "Print" and about 30-60 seconds or so later, the CD was printed. You can view the photo of the end result below.

While I've never used a CD/DVD printer before, I was quite impressed with the end result. At 600 dpi the result is not quite up to professional, super-fine detail print quality, but it was still pretty slick looking and more professional than 99% of the demos and promos we get submitted. The printer supports full color, but the actual color of the disc is used as the light colors in the graphics, and since I had printed on a silver finished CD, all of the white portions of my image were silver. It still looked great, however.
The DYMO® DiscPainter™ would certainly be a great asset to any band who wants to create more professional looking D.I.Y. demos, promos, and press kits. This unit retails for $250-$280.

I signed up as well. Even though I dont currently have any band sh** goin on, it would still be handy to have something like that in the near future. Besides, who can pass up free stuff?
