Megadeth has announced the 2009 edition of their touring festival Gigantour. Only two bands have been confirmed so far, namely Bullet For My Valentine and Aveneged Sevenfold. More details on the event will be announced as they are revealed.

I'm not usually one who talks about bands selling out, but the first thing that came to mind as I read this is "wow, they've sure sold out" (meaning Megadeth). I was looking forward to catching a Gigantour one day, but I am not sure I'd be interested now. On the positive side, this starting lineup will probably help them draw a bigger crowd and fill bigger arenas instead of the mid-sized venues they played last year.

f*** YOU DAVE! When Gigantour was started Mustaine said that it was going to be the opposite of what bands like AV7 & BFMV stand for (trend jumping whores) and focus on bands with integrity.

I have gone to every Gigantour but I will not even CONSIDER going to this one unless Testament and at least one other incredible band (ie Carcass get added. I have defended the post Jr/Menza/Friedman/ Megadeth line up for the last couple years and I no longer will.
I went to the first two gigantours and they ruled all the way through because he choose to have bands with taents on them....didn't catch the last one but it seemed like it had a decent line up, not as good as the first two years but decent....but this lineup so far....all I can say is WEAK DAVE, WEAK...

Diamond Oz- Whoa there buddy, let's point out some bands that have opened for Metallica on the Summer Sanitarium tours:
Exhibit A- Kid Rock
Exhibit B- KORN
Exhibit C- Godsmack
and lastly, the most damning of all- LIMP BIZKIT
and although I cannot officially submit it to the court, I believe Avenged Sevenfold was Metllica's opening band last year in Europe.

Well, I guess it's time for my confession (which I've made numerous times) I actually like all of the bands you listed there. In fact I'm a big Limp Bizkit fan, the music holds alot of memories for me and such. Plus I went to see Kid Rock in June. I don't like Korn's new stuff and I can take or leave Godsmack. I have one of their albums I think. Anyway, I'd take any of those bands over this lineup anyday.
Diamond Oz- Although I do not share your love for those bands, I respect that you do. Different strokes, different folks.

Hmm, well out of all those I only like Overkill but In Flames surprised me with how good they were at Graspop. I watched a couple of songs from Arch Enemy too but wasn't impressed. And I've never been big on any of those other bands. So yeah, as a fan of LB and Kid Rock I would rather see them. But that's just me, I'm sure plenty of people would want to kick my a$$ for saying that but yep.

Shredder- In OC we didn't get Anthrax. It was Megs, Dream Theater, Nevermore & Fear Factory at Irvine Meadows in June or July of 2005.

Seriously though, I think everyone should have a couple bands that makes his friends say, "What the f***?" We can't all like 100% of the bands our buddies like. That would be boring.

I dont think this is all that bad. dont get me wrong, its not the best by far. but ive seen gigantour the past 2 times, and ive seen avenged sevenfold and bfmv. i like them. i just dont see why everyone is hating on this so much. i think it will be pretty good. i plan on going to this, and it should be pretty good. maybe im just not close minded enough when it comes to metal

Call me close minded if you want for not liking Bullet For My Valentine or Avenged Sevenfold but I've seen them both before and hated it. I will go so far as to say Bullet For My Valentine are the worst band I've ever seen too. Avenged Sevenfold would be alot better with a different frontman and if they ditched their image I believe.

I don't hold a hatred towards either band and I'm sure if you like that kind of music then this lineup is a real treat, it's just not for me and seemingly alot of other people. I don't like to hate on a band too much though due to the aforementioned me being a Limp Bizkit fan :P

MetallicPunk is right on. I am a huge A7X fan and think people are too quick to sh**can them. People need to be a bit more open minded about the evolution of rock and give young up and comers a chance (A7X are not metal). That being said, BFMV are overrated. I have seen them live and have no desire to hear em again. Neither belong on the Gigantour line up.

Far as I'm concerned A7X and BFMV are just as bad as emo, if not worse. They infiltrate our metal scene and saturate it with trash and soundalike scumbands. The fact that Mustaine actually has anything to do with these bands is disgraceful to himself and everything that is metal and everything he's done. I'm really hoping this is just a joke and Dave's like "just f***in with ya, guys! srsly High on Fire, Amon Amarth etc, etc"

MEGADETH drummer Shawn Drover has shot down rumors that AVENGED SEVENFOLD and BULLET FOR MY VALENTINE are in talks to take part in next year's North American Gigantour — the acclaimed traveling heavy music festival launched by MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine.
Posting in the "Forums" section of the band's official web site in a thread where fans were discussing the above-mentioned rumor, Drover simply wrote "No" in response to the online chatter.
No official announcement has yet been made regarding the lineup of the fourth edition of Gigantour, which will once again feature MEGADETH in the headlining slot.

Bullet for my valentine is a f***ing good band and takes way to much sh**! And don't f***ing call me emo either cause my two favorite sub-genres are follk metal and power metal.
With all of that being said, I do think it is odd to see them on this tour. And, for avenged sevenfold, they used to be good but they sold out big time. They are completely crap now. Hopefully there will be some bands that we would be used to seeing on this tour get on it.

Why do people always shxt on Godsmack? They aren't even making cds anymore, yet posters continue to bash them. I would much rather see Godsmack again, then Megadeth, Trivium, BFMV, or Avenged Sevenfold. I guess I am in the extreme minority -but Godsmack, IMO, is fukkin' bada$$! This band is still a favorite of mine. I also happen to deeply love Alice in Chains, and don't see why people say Sully ripped off AIC. I just don't see it. Way off topic, I know - but I had to stand up for Godsmack, and I hope that they release another album soon.

It's weird for me. While I see that technically both of these bands are good, there is an element to their music which I don't like. It's hard to define. I don't bash on 'em because I rarely bash on any band, except maybe Metallica and GnR. Maybe it's the vocals, or I feel that they should be heavier or doomier. I guess my point is I can see why some folks dig them, I have given them a chance and never found anything to hook me in. My neice is a big fan of both bands so I have heard more than a few songs. As for Godsmack, I own their first album and "Awake" but other than that felt they were a one trick pony. Serenity was a nice change of pace though.

A terrible, shocking affront to metal. But in another way, represents a way forward. Look at this thread, it's quite obvious the metal community has fractured in too and are ready to part with the dead skin which has built upon the bands we love. The uprising of thrash bands as an antithesis of the generic metalcore crap parallels the 80s.

Guys, stop acting so brutal and repeating whatever sh** you read all over the web. Elistism is the best way to kill every kind of music expression. What is the problem with bands like Bullet For My Valentine? They are too young? They only have 2 albums? Because I have listen to their music and seen them live at festivals ans honestly I enjoyed their show and I'm glad that old bands I respect and love like Megadeth and Metallica gives a chance to those kids to reach a wider range of metal fans.
When bands repeat what has been done before they are bashed because they are not creative. And when they bring something new they are labelled emos, gays or posers. So what is your problem guys? Keep in mind that Metallica, Pantera and so on have not always been accepted and respected the way they are today. Open up, enjoy the music, have a beer, chill after those two bands you'll see your gods on stage so take a minute to enjoy the show beforehand.

Metalice: See post #53. My friend Branded hit the nail on the head with that one. Furthermore, explain to me how Pantera and Metallica were "not accepted". They were both instantly accepted into the arms of metaheads everywhere as soon as they broke onto the scene. Moreover, Metallica is not really respected amongst the metal community the way they were in the 80-90s because of their 10 year run of sh!tty music they released. I'm not sure if you failed to communicate your point or if you just have no idea what your talking about. Either way you failed with that post.

^I guess not everyone thinks bands like that suck. For one thing, I've given these two bands a chance, and I don't like Bullet For My Valentine. As for Avenged Sevenfold, I have mentioned once before that I believe they have musical talent, but I just can't sit through an entire song from them for some reason. As far as labeling goes, if a band belongs in a certain genre that I'm not a fan of, it doesn't matter; they way they sound matters. It just so happens that I don't like how these two particular bands sound as a whole. If these bands continue to tour, there's nothing we can do but hope they go off on their own; bands like that don't seem to fit well in this tour.

Bands like Poison, Motley Crue, Defleppard versus bands like Death, Pantera, Slayer. Sure, the hair metal bands mentioned may have good songs and fantastic guitarists sometimes, like alot of hair/glam metal did, but from which corner of the ring did true musical innovation come from?
Bands like A7x, Bullet, Atreyu, Trivium, versus bands like Gojira, Lamb of God, Pig Destroyer and Meshuggah. Which group of bands has intersting guitarists sometimes, catchy songs, and extremely feminine looking members, and which group is actually trying to push the envelope?

I've said it before about many bands people hate on and defend on this site, whether they're underground or mainstream or somewhere in the middle.....*This is there jobs (musicians). They do this for money*. Gigantour was smaller last time. Mustaine knows Megadeth won't be around much longer, or maybe he want to retire. with Avenged and Bullet he can get BIG venues and charge a higher tix price. He wants Ozzy money this go-around.
on a side not i wish i had gotten to go to the first gigantour and saw Dream Theater, but thats about it.

Well if this is true.. I'm disappointed in Dave... the last Gigantours have been pretty good. I saw the year with Lamb of God. That was pretty badass... n' I wish I would've been able to see last year with High On Fire.
But this year... if it is really gonna happen this way... is sad. I can't stand BFMV, I'm a lot more tolerant of A7X... but like said before, they have good talent but should ditch their image. The singer is ok, he just needs work in my opinion... n' they should NEVER let that drummer sing! EVER! He is so damn annoying, it's rediculous...
So please let this be either a joke or have the rest of the bands be gods in the metal world to make up for this....

It's a bit shallow to assume that people don't like the band because of popular opinion. I honestly don't listen to them because I don't find their music entertaining. Never said anything bad about 'em. Im sure they will do fine without the few people here who might not find their sound appealing.

I personally agree with a lot of the comments towards a7x here, they sold out. I like their older stuff, and if they kept that kind of sound, i might rethink my opinion. being that i never been to Gigantour i still kno who has played in it before, and this is a bit of a change. I've seen bullet for my valentine and i like them, they are for the younger public being newer, but the main thing is that people don't forget who started this whole trend, and that people look into those that were not recognized like they should have, like testament and laaz rockit. they both came out during Metallica's rise, but was not seen the same way. Megadeth has been around, and if they get a younger band in there, it might be better. yes it is odd, but its new. new things are always odd, because theres no experience to relate to. we will see what happens. i could care less for a7x tho, i like a few of their new stuff, but not much more. really now im with all of you... i want to see who else Megadeth picks. their next choices will ultimatly form my support for it. I might even go this year depending on their choices. Still will love Megadeth though, highly anticipating their album coming out in '09.

try to think of it like this. bfmv and a7x are bands that are geared more to the mainstream and younger people just getting into the heavier music. i like to think of it as this being a great chance to expose these people to some great metal. i mean think about it. they can get these huge venues, bring in tons of people, then show them megadeth and hopefully some other awesome bands, thus bringing more people to metal.

These two bands blow... Couldnt agree more with the negative comments... but come on... should we really be surprised? Dave had a "quote" from Jack Bauer (u know..the TV SHOW 24)...even saying it makes me shake my head... on the liner sleeve of the new album... spoke volumes about where his head is at....pathetic.
I used to criticize Metallica for greed...thought id NEVER include Megadeth in that category.... but here we are. Go back and crank Rust In Peace and be grateful it ever came out in the first place.

I think too many people see Bullets name and grab false assumptions. "The Poison" was a good album. If they played sh** off that album I'd have no problem seeing them with Megadeth. Their new album wasn't as good though.

I do have to state the fact that I can't stand Bullet in any of it's incarnations Poison-era or contemporary. It's all gay to my ears.
Bu tI do have a similar quandry on my hands that I can relate to, becauseI'm gonna see Manson and Slayer when Mayhem rolls around, and I like them both. However, the easy solution is to remember the fact that Slayer deserves my respect for pushing the boundaries of metal, while manson is just good music to my ears. Ask yourself the same question about Megadeth and Bullet.

This is a major f***en GAY tour. I went to this years show in San Jose and Megadeth was f***en great. Bodom put on a good show and so did High on Fire. I for sure will not be going to next years show. Megadeth is going the Metallica route!

And vodka is the devil lol. every time I drink it, I blank out for three or four hours. three cups of straight rum? just fine. 12 pack of beer? little bit woozy. a cup of "absolut" mixed down with some pineapple juice? Other side of town in a bathtub bleeding out of my knuckles lol

Bruno - For some reason, I dont think a fried tenderloin would make it through UPS... the damn things smell so good.... you would end up with an empty box... LOL
When I make em..... I soak the tenderized loin in a milk/egg... and then lay it the breading that consists of a mixture of crushed saltine crackers, flour, black pepper, a dash of garlic salt, some seasoning salt and some crushed up potato chips..!!
After laying it in the pan of breading.....cover the whole thing with breading and then mash it down with a large spoon.... making sure that the breading is pressed into the meat really good... then lay it in a pan of hot oil.. only takes a matter of minutes on each side.... fry to a golden brown.... and then pig out...!! Makes for a great sandwich, but also works well with a side of hashbrowns too ;-)

Bg1 - Glad I could pass it on... although, when making the breading.. the saltines,flour and potato chips make up the biggest part.... the black pepper is a dash orso, depending on your tastes... and the seasoning salt is just a dash, because there is already salt from the crackers...!!

Yeah, most greatest hits collections just have the radio hits. Most of them leave out quite a few of the true gems, especially in Priest's case. That's why I'm planning on picking up some of their albums, too, like "Sad Wings of Destiny".. that song is killer.

I think it's sad. I feel sorry for her. She wants nothing to do with her family because they're all way heavy into drugs, and just the other day her son and a grandson got busted for selling pot. She doesn't have anyone who's even there for her. But on the other hand, it's hard for me to be sympathetic to her because she's so bitter and doesn't seem to want to help herself.

I still don't get why weed is illegal. Well, actually I do. Anyone could grow it so "Big Pharm" would potentially lose profit on what they could sell and tax the public. You would be surprised how much influence the pharmaceutical companies have in the USA. That is crazy though. The DEA occasionally make busts like that here, but prodimantly they are after meth and heroin. In CA, weed is nothing.

Kali- They used rascist propaganda to convince the public that marijuana was something that the blacks used to get all hopped up on when they would run around raping and murdering. As of matter of fact, I believe that is how they made several drugs illegal a few decades before. I may be wrong, but pot wasn't illegal until the 1940's, right?
TOG- Iowa ain't got nothing on SoCal. Last time I checked about 5 or 6 years ago, something like 80% of US meth goes through SoCal, either manufactured here or being shipped from Mexico to be distributed throughout the country. Either way though, I hate that sh**!

I used to be a pest controlman at the DEA vault down here and they always have the same stuff in there. You see stories on the news about all of the busts going down on our borders, but yet the same stuff was always there. Nothing new, nothing gone... ever... For over a year!. After about a year and a half, I started asking why that was and finally got an answer that I believed (after several don't ask don't tell types shined me on): "we just send it back" he said. A buddy of mine's younger bro, was on his way back from Texas about a month ago.... the car got pulled over and searched... they found about 1/2 an oz., the cops asked if they had any "harder" drugs hidden anywhere...after the search was over... they let em go... no tickets... just kept the dope and sent them on their way..!! I wonder where that dope ended up..??

Godlike- I think pretty much all the Southwest US is like that. I can think of probably 6-8 times that a cop has found weed on me, made me stomp on it or confiscated it, and sent me on my merry way. Usually when they find it, they look you dead in the eye and say, "You only got weed on you, right?" If you are telling the truth and have no warrants they let you go without a ticket. I party with a guy who has been friends with a cop for like 20 years or something. They went to school together and all that. Although the cop don't toke himslef, his old lady does and when he is at the party is totally cool when everyone blazes. He couldn't care less and is a cool dude.

About five years ago there was a show called House that I thought was pretty cool but I think it got taken off the air. To me the best thing about the DVD outbreak is all the shows that you can buy old seasons of. I am the kind of guy who would rather watch old Twilight Zones than any show made in the 21st century.

Bruno, yeah house is still on the air. I dont even watch tv, but my friend just downloads new tv shows so that he can watch them on HIS schedule, and follows the shows that he likes. Occasionally, I'll come over and see house, big bang Theory (hilarious, f***in hilarious), or Lost or something halfway decent like that. So I know House is still running new episodes.

I iknow none of the friends I was with were believers, but the dude was acting so nice, they didnt want to be rude and so they kept listening.

Well, we arrived safe and sound at the house on the bayou. FAN, that sh** was funny as hell. There's nothing worse than a Christian with no sense of humor.
I'm pretty burned out right now. Spent the morning playing volleyball for squadron PT, came home and ate lunch, then got on the road for 9 hrs.
Godlike, every time I was behind a trucker that was sraying the leftovers of torrential downpour upon my windshield, I chuckled and calmly gave you the finger. Safe travels during the silly season brother.

Ok I just got back from 5 hours of boredom. Everyone at the party was celebrating Christmas but me. I just went outside to smoke a cig while they were celebrating. All went well though. I recieved gifts from a few family members. I thanked them for their love and generosity.

ahah yeah I keep seein your bulletins on myspace for Hail... I won't lie, I havn't checked them out yet :( my fam's good hey. well, most of them. one part of our extended family are white-trash retards I swear lol. and my grandpa's girlfriend has cancer, which sucks for him, tho doesn't really affect me much, sad as that is. but other than that we're all doin brilliant.

ahh too bad. I love travelling, but sometimes there really is no place like home hey. Oh, and just quietly (so I don't get bashed for enjoying non-metal music lol) - darude is awesome. That sandstorm song still blows me away and I've heard it I don't even know how many millions of times :)

Psythe: Haha I love a lot of stuff other than just Metal; I dig techno music a lot, it's great stuff. I just arrived to one of my cousin's house and I'm playing some old school Mario games :) I used to play that stuff when I was little. Do you have any interesting plans for New Years Eve?
