MEGADETH mainman Dave Mustaine has issued the following update:
"I am writing this while sitting in my studio, and Justis and his friend from school, Ryan (a drummer) are in the lounge room blasting KILLSWITCH ENGAGE and now RUSH for songs for their band, and I have some rare "extra time", so I wanted to make a post about last week and what we are doing next week.
"I had a barbecue at my house in Fallbrook after service on Sunday and met some of Pam's new friends, and got ready for something that I never thought I would do in my life. That is my adult life. But first comes Monday - a dreadful day for me.
"I have been struggling with my back for some time, and have been doing yoga, stretching, acupuncture, faith healing, "laying" on of hands, injections, chiropractic, and everything else you can imagine. Two years ago, almost, I went out to my friend in Ohio and went to the OSU Medical center and had MRI's done on my neck and spine for 1 3/4 hours.
"The next day the Doctor (and I say that reluctantly) said that I had stenosis, and acted like it was just indigestion and went on talking to someone else. Needless to say I was pissed by his cavalier attitude and when he told me that there was nothing I could do except take two Aleve and get used to it I felt doomed.
"After two more years of destroying my neck and back on tour and ruining my liver from the medication I finally went to the Kieran Jobe Clinic in Anaheim and my Dr. Orr Limpisvasti did more x-rays, and requested I get another series of MRI's done. I was also to be fitted with a brace, and a traction unit, and Physical Therapy. AGAIN WITH THE FUCKING PT! This time it’s for six months. I went there on Thursday to find out the results of the MRI. This was the day that I find out if I go under the knife or not.
"Now, back to Electra getting the acting bug, and this is even with her brother started acting before her. You see when I was a kid my mom used to take us to the Costa Mesa Repertory Theater to see plays and acting. I know this is where Electra got her bug from, and consequently ended up with her as the co-host with her friend Wanda Goldberg from their show "Faithful Friends", which is a show about animals that is aired on the Animal Planet channel on cable TV for its second season this year.
"Anyway, I went out to Las Vegas on Tuesday with Pam to see the play "Mamma Mia". I thought it was going to totally suck when we went to see the movie and I actually liked it, so I easily agreed to the invitation to come see the play in L.V. and again I had fun. Except for the obese troglodyte woman that kept kicking the back of my chair, it was very enjoyable; not as good as the movie, but good just the same.
"I flew home on Wednesday and got back to work in the studio.
"Thursday was the day I found out the damage. And oddly enough, ever since I went to the dude Todd Bentley that everyone is saying is a healer; my back has been feeling better. It could be psychosomatic, but I digress. The Doctor came in the room and turned on the lightbox (what they use to view x-rays) and gave me the news.
"I have been diagnosed with degenerative disk disease and arthritis in my neck and that is what's causing all of the problems in my back.
"But don't despair, because I am in a great place and am very happy.
"I get to listen to my little boy just shred! in the other room and I am so glad that he isn't going to inherit my reputation and that he is going to be better than me.
"Friday and the work week is through, but not before I made another trip up to LA to film a Public Service Announcement (PSA) for VH-1's Rock Autism, and I also filmed a segment for the greatest 100 Hard Rock songs of all time and we were on it. I just hope that we stay on it!
"Lastly, I got to play the video game "Rock band" and was filmed playing against someone online, and this will all be aired in the near future, so we will text you a notice if you are signed up for TheLiveLine for me, and if not we will just post it here.
"I came back to the studio and stayed here until 12:30 AM with the Storekeeper and we went over all kinds of great stuff and we are going to be listing a DV-8 soon. This is one of my last ESP's and definitely a great guitar.
"Now, as I finish this post, I can't help but laugh about James Lomenzo coming over here this morning and setting off the silent alarm, and how Brooklyn it is of him to be gone when the Sheriffs all swooped, which was right when I pulled up
"I am finishing up the day here and getting the studio ready for our album and the private clients that come in here, which will be screened so that it is Droogies First :-)
"The rest of the weekend is going to be spent in Nashville with Justis, playing golf in a tournament, and although I asked good buddy Shawn Drover if he could make the drive up and it is just too much right now, so I wont see him for a few weeks still, but I may see some of you at the tournament, or at the airport coming and going Sunday and Monday with my son.
"Lastly, please say tuned for more developments from our official site here and our MySpace.com/megadeth page and the official Gigantour site and MySpace.com/gigantour page for details. We are going to be uploading a lot of films, podcasts, news, pictures and delivering out the fanclub packages.
"A big thank you goes out to Dave McRobb for his tireless efforts here at the Official site, and now he will also be running our MySpace pages. So, there should be a hell of a lot of stuff popping up all over soon."

Well Coldiem I have a major digestive problem and believe me in makes life very very hard for me but nobody hears me complain, or cry or blog about it because I have it, it's there, it sucks but complaining or trying to gain pity will not fix it.
One of the owners of my workplace has had severe arthritis since his early 30's, and I mean severe as too not move at all. Then they helped him with medication and he still has it but started doing sports again and the likes. did he blog about it ? did he went public to make himself a victim ? no, he said I have this disease, it blows but I will prevail...and he did it without asking for pity.
How is what you just wrote any different than Dave Mustaine blogging about his issues? Like it or not, he is a celebrity, and his fans do care. He is merely keeping them informed. No need to demean him over it. It's not like he said "Oh! It hurts so much, please shower me with your sympathy!"
It's not that I don't have decency, I just think that Mamma Mia blows. I just can't stand the music, for starters. Other than that, maybe it's good. I don't know. I probably never will. But anyway, I wasn't demeaning Dave Mustaine for his arthritis issues, I was merely commenting on Mamma Mia.
What's wrong with discussing one's health issues Red. I'm writing a whole book of poetry about living with Muscular Dystrophy because 1) I seem to have a knack for poetry and 2) I think people should understand how it sucks, not that it sucks. I get the no pity thing, but informing people isn't asking for pity.
Well nothings wrong about it but I mean c'mon, Arthritis ? I hurts as f*** but compare to muscular dystrophy I would be happy to have arthritis. He had back and neck pains, that sucks but hew makes a big deal out of it...didn't Kurt Angle win a gold medal with a broken neck ? Never heard him complain...
BB King has arthritis and had it for many many yet he plays on and doesn't complain. And yes Kurt Angle was an Olympic athlete and gold medallist. Tommy Iommy has lost the tip of some fingers, yet he found a way to make it didn't he ? The drummer from def leppard misses an arm but plays on, jeff healey was blind but he played...and the list goes on and on.
Great examples! but on the blind guy I was taught that a musician should be able to play blind folded. Granted blind is not blind folded and falling offstage can be hazardous! No, seriously, I see your point, I'm just trying to see all angles, even if they prove to bad angles.
I agree with posts 11 and 17, and seem to have missed the part where Mustaine said "I have arthritis, therefore I'm quitting music." I'm sure all those people you guys used as examples came out and said to the public, "Hey guys, I lost my arm" or whichever variation. Please think before you criticise people. The fact that you KNOW that BB King has arthritis suggests that he at some point did EXACTLY what Mustaine has done here. I'll add to your examples. Daniel Johns has arthritis, still plays in Silverchair, everyone knows he's got it, and thus this example is irrelevent to your arguments against Mustaine here.
Red: "he just has to suck it up and get his balls out and play" - Sorry mate, but your whole point is, well, pointless. Mustaine never made a single suggestion to the contrary.
Oh, and by the way, arthritis is no small thing, it can actually be literally CRIPPLING. Of course, the case varies for every person, much like many diseases and ailments. One of my mates has a form of arthritis, the docs have been saying he'll be in a wheelchair by the time he's 30.
I don't even much like Mustaine - or Megadeth - but please, people, THINK before you criticise!
You have a point as far as arthritis goes in telling people does not equate asking for pity or complaining (although Dave has had more than enough hissy-fits, but I think he addresses that when he says his son won't inherit his reputation) but anyway, if you're missing an arm, I think people tend to notice major body parts missing without being told. =P
Oh, and to DeathInEye, that's really cool about the poetry book, hey! It's great when people can use some debilitation to their advantage in some way, make something positive out of it. I'm something of an amateur poet, but only because I enjoy messing around with words and ideas, so I just write stuff for myself.
^^^ur a pud beater-the'owner's manual is an anvil that has withstood many hammers-and as for #15's comments-WAIT 'till your generation gets old-the generation before you will have you made into FISH FOOD-Remember,Soylent Green is PEOPLE!I too, have 'rhuematism' in about 8 places, and I work 2 jobs(had 3);it tends to be an inherited condition, but human beings have been dealing with it for tens of thousands of years(Neanderthal Man had it)I sympathize,Dave-
I'm firstly writing the book for myself Psythe. Writing is very therapeutic for me. But if I can enlighten someone on a subject, I think as a human being and an artist I'm obligated to do so...But that could also just be years of english professors spouting off on how important literature is.... Who knows, but I like it, so I do it. Also, I don't just write about my disease. It was just an obvious topic.
