Ventflow Posts New Recording Diary Online
Unsigned metallers Ventflow have posted their second diary from the recording of their new EP. You can read it below:
"Tracking for the rhythm guitar parts started 9 o'clock sharp Monday morning. First things first were sorting out guitar sounds. We decided to use my line 6 POD X3 Live to record the guitar parts. We had to record direct really because we don't have the luxury of a soundproof studio in which to crank a guitar amp in. All the recording from now on will be done in my room at home. This means we have to keep the volume at sensible levels or risk:
"A: Chavs throwing bricks through the windows or
"B: The council coming round and giving us shit again, like when we got banned from playing at our last practice place!
"Anyway, recording direct works awesome, especially with the X3. Steve uses a line 6 amp anyway, and the X3 has more amp models to play with as well as dual tone recording so made perfect sense.
"In a lot of modern metal recordings the guitar seems less heavy, producers choosing a lower gain sound to increase string definition, often boosting mids. We picked a heavy guitar sound by scooping the mids a bit to give that old school vibe, and only cutting the gain down enough to increase string definition without sacrificing the overall tone and bite. We think you'll like it…….
"Our new songs are a lot more technical than our older songs. They are faster and harder to play, and we only finished writing a couple of them a few days before we started recording. Some of the songs you will recognise from our more recent gigs, most notably 'Into The Arms Of Death' which we have been opening our sets with, and 'Terrorssiah' which we did a rough recording of a while back and have been gigging for a couple of months. We also played both 'ADM' and 'These Times Of Darkness' at the Bloodstock Battle of the Bands at Riffs Bar. The other two songs are brand-spanking new, and if the other songs don't blow you away, these bad boys certainly will!!!"
